My firmly-held position is that the best thing you can do with zombies is add some irregularity - they're such a cookie-cutter threat that having them behave unexpectedly is _powerful._ Have one talk a little! Have one keep going after its head explodes! Uncertainty is a crucial pillar of survival-horror.
Many zombie movies have the same slow moving, oblivious hordes, that’s why I like train to Bussan, and Zombieland, not all zombies are the same, and they actually run at people and violently try to eat people. Shambling hordes don’t feel too threatening anymore.
@@garrettviewegh677 The shambling ones are only dangerous for 2 reasons: how quietly they move and their numbers. I have seen many situations in the game "7 Days to Die" where a player fails to check their corners and gets attacked, panic-fired his weapon and the other "sleeping" zombies in the same building wake up and start overwhelming a scavenger party.
A cool detail: depending on how long you've survived, once you die, your infected self will not only become stronger and harder to kill, but also the prepper will comment on your death. If you die with a low level character he'll be like "ah well, he was useless anyways", but if you die with a high level character he'll be shocked and angry.
Fun trivia: the Baseball Bat and Nail board were in the WiiU version but they were only given out as prizes to certain people who posted screenshots and comments on the ZombiU Miiverse page. I "won" one of of the baseball bats.
@Chuss Animations I don't know about PC or Xbox, but in PS4 you can find a nailed baseball bat. I can't remember where, but it was the strongest melee weapon in the game.
The WiiU version is the absolute BEST way to play this title. Both the Wii and the WiiU caused developers to think outside of the typical and usual gaming tropes and controls. Titles like ZombiU really demonstrated the untapped potential of Nintendo's unique hardware and how those consoles deserved better original titles rather than getting watered down versions of whatever was released to market.
I wouldn't say it "Caused", but "Let" developers do stuff like that, because ideas like this always pass any dev's mind, but rarely do they get a way to implement it in a good way, which for something like ZombiU's case was possible with the Wii U having the controller bundled with the console, otherwise it's not easy to make the player follow your ideas.
It was one of the games that better demonstrated the potential of the WiiU interface, I still remember the tension of going through the backpack. I've always wondered how well it translates to other platforms.
Zombi is called Zombi, not because of the "U" being removed due to the porting. The "U" is the same deal as adding "3d" to Ocarina of Time on 3ds. Zombi was actually one of the first series that Ubisoft has ever made and was a home computer game from 1986 that they rebooted for the "Zombi U" title.
I originally thought they named it ZombiU (And Zombi) after the Italy name for the Night of The Living Dead and Dawn Of The Dead series where in Italy, it's called Zombi
@@wolfiethefurrygamer1908 they might have named the original 1986 game for that reason but I also can't find any info backing up "Zombi" being a foreign title for any of the Night of the Living Dead releases.
@@wolfiethefurrygamer1908 You are actually correct, the listed titles on Imdb don't include local releases. My apologies. But the 1986 game in fact could have been inspired by the localised name of Dawn of The Dead.
The ending for this game left me wanting another game so bad! The revelation about the prepper and you, the heli scene, the whole "cure" thing. I wish we had a second game
I played though this on Xbox, I now own a Wii U (Which has been modded by me) so I'm excited to try OG ZombiU, from what I've seen, it's got a lot more extreme tence situations with the gamepad being your Map, Inventory and Scanner, forcing you to look away from the TV to look about which is awesome
This was the one zombie game that was actually pretty damn scary for me. I've played them all, but this one took the cake in relation to the terror I felt while playing. I felt like Cillian Murphy's character, Jim, in 28 Days Later, where I felt really alone, scared and unaware of the problems ahead of me. Also the fact that there was a perma-death system made it that much more scary.
@@Obiwanrollmeone Never got scared in Dying Light. The only other zombie game where I was mildly anxious playing was the first time playing the Resident Evil 2 Remake.
The reason ZombiU, and there Zombie's are terrifying is because with games like this that share similar aspects to other games like Project Zomboid for instance. Its not there speed or smarts but rather their lethality, and unpredictability. If they grab you once its over and while you do get an item that can be used to break grabs which will stop them from happening in the front. But it needs to be replenished by killing another zombie. And if that's not bad enough back grabs are instant kill regardless of what you have. This makes them the kind that even with 1 or 2 your guard has to be up 24/7 as dropping your guard and allowing a zombie to even get a single one on you well the character your playing as is a lost cause. As you discussed the key differences to ZombiU, and Zombi are the gamepad is used to interact with the prepper pad and loot but your character is on the main screen... What that means is while your looking down at the gamepad for map knowledge and what to loot. A zombie can come up behind and grab you with no notification so you have to look up at the screen to make sure nothing is sneaking up on you while your doing these things. And for the mounted machine gun the TV screen becomes a third person camera and you use the gamepad to aim and shoot at em this way you can look up to check around your character instead of what is just in front of you. ZombiU also had a multiplayer mode one player took the pad and was a zombie master and the other was on the game screen trying to do the objective set out in the map. If its one thing I love about the WiiU its the asymmetric multiplayer modes. The fact that one has the pad and the other has the TV let 2 people have there own screen allowing some insanely cool ideas to take place that no other console could do and honestly I wish it was done more.
Exactly that. These games are special. One grab and it’s all over. Not a overpowered underleveled boss fight. A completely fair mechanic. Dying Light and Dead Island etc allow you to take loads of bites, but this and especially Project Zomboid take the better approach and live from a point of no immunity (at least from a bite or scratch). It made the experience more individual and the infected encounters more scary. It allows you to cater to your character and gives rise to better versions of this system. The best part about a zombie game is you being able to die and the game accepting this for once and letting you start as someone else without losing the progress.
For how janky the game can be, it’s surprisingly tense at times. The nursery had my heart pounding pretty good. I never actually died in my first playthrough, since I was super careful about everything. I’ll probably go back to it again someday.
@@IDK-ww7xjmy first play through absolutely terrified me I could only play for a couple hours and then have to stop cause I couldn’t handle anymore I’ll never feel the same fear as when you fall through the ground in the nursery
@@mmmcookies1975 do you remember that recording in the nursery about the kids being terrified? That was the peak of my anxiety. I was only ten when I got the game on release date and even now I’m pretty sure I can’t handle no more than an hour a day playing it. Hearing the survivor scream or getting bitten just to end up turning scarred me as a kid. I would’ve loved a sequel though, I always wanted to know what happened to prepper
@@IDK-ww7xj yes! Omg that terrified me as well the nursery and when I had to go unground walk through the water it was kind of a maze and you had to use the prepped pad to scan for arrows to find out which location to go I ended up dying down there and died again trying to get my stuff back and lost everything
i remember the trailer for this game totally blowing me away as a kid, it was so awesome. the slow scrolling stills of absolute chaos and god save the queen starting as just singing and a guitar and evolving to an entire orchestra by the end gave me crazy goosebumps.
It's surprising how well Ubisoft captured London with Zombi and Watch_Dogs Legion. In the middle of a zombie apocolypse or in the distant future, there's still so much you recognise.
I remember going to my friends house when I was like 11 and we all took turn playing in the room alone with nothing but the wiiu on, scared me more than cod zombies did when I as a child, game was ahead of its time
Zombie U, on the U is brilliant. Looking down at the screen to replicate looking through your backpack for items is genius. As you're looking down it's in real time so you'll unexpectedly get attacked. True Tension.
Zombi is scary because you can't even see anything, hence why all of the other zombie survival don't go as hard as this Also ZombiUK doesn't sound that bad of a name, it's catchy
This was a phenomenal game, with its atmosphere, ost and aesthetic. Having played the Wii U version over 10 years ago, the tension of having to look at the Wii U gamepad while you are still 'unpaused' and vulnerable on the tv screen was a thrill. The fact it had multiple endings depending on whether you did or didnt find found the cure AND THEN whether you survived or died in the final mission was intense. The multiplayer for Wii U was so much fun. One person would be the king of zombies with the game pad and by using the touchscreen spawn in different zombi variants onto a map - all while another player had their regular controller (and the tv) and played the typical zombi survival against what you spawn. Such a good game.
ZombiU (as a Wii U enjoyer) always seemed like a game I would like to play someday, but once I learned about the whole "you die and you're someone else" mechanic I kinda lost interest and never picked it up. I don't think it's a bad mechanic, in fact I thought it was a really cool idea when I heard about it, I just know it would drive me up the wall on a personal level.
It’s not that bad to be honest. It’s relatively easy enough to do a full playthrough without dying and as long as you keep your health up and spam shove any grab attempts then it should work. You get a one use per replenishment way to counter grabs about 50-60% through the game.
@@emily1 Another cool part about this mechanic is that you can find and kill other infected survivors that died during there play throughs and even loot them.
@@aidangattinger8975 that was with online features enabled. the online aspect for the wii u version went down a while a go and the pc xbox and ps4 ports never did online
Can we also talk about the music? The game remain silent for the majority of the playthrough but when the music come in oh boy, it was genuinely making me shiver down my spine everytime.
I beat the game without dying and this is so true! The further you are in the game, the more you care about your survivor and in the end it feels like you’re going to die IRL, if he dies
I only played this game in the hardest difficulty and refuse to play it in any other. When I perma die I would wait a couple of weeks and come back and try to go as far as I can each time. Took me a year to beat it but it made my whole experience truly immersive.
I was 8 years old when a TH-cam ad showed this game and even now it still the only game that keeps me up at night. Something about the trailer using god save the queen whilst people are devoured makes it so dark and horrifying
My only memory of this game as someone who has never played it is that incredibly heartfelt rendition of God Save the Queen in the game's trailer. That's legit one of the best version of the song I've ever heard.
This still is my absolute favorite zombie game. No other game has ever matched the feeling of storming the palace in the last portion with all of the ammo I've hoarded. I'm still mad from that one landmine in the sewer, which is like one of the only few times there even are mines, that killed me on my survival run.
This was a pretty fun game, I haven't finished it yet but I want to one day. Honestly the vibes are spot on, I was pretty much terrified every corner I went because I didn't know what to expect. I can't remember where I was before I dropped off exactly, all I remember was that I was supposed to get to buckingham palace to get to the armory there, but that's all I remember.
What i adore about Zombi so much is its setting cause we're finally not in the US for once. I don't know what it is but i'm fascinated by zombie games/movies set in Europe
I'm glad this game is getting some love again after all these years. I played the game for the first time about a year and a half ago on my ps4, and I can say I honestly enjoyed this take on zombies. It doesn't bombard you with special infected everywhere, and when they do its only like 1 or 2 that show up, and they can be tough but manageable if you have the right gear. I did die to it a few times, but I did like the simple zombies that could instakill you if they were able to grab you. It just shows that even if you get used to the regular zombies they can still be a threat.
I absolutely agree. Zombi is definitely one of the zomby games that has stayed in my mind over the years. I loved playing this game. Definitely in my top 10 games of all time.
I played the WIIU version of this game when it came out and my god did I find this game to be terrifying. I never finished the game because it scared me so much, my anxiety ran high when playing the game. That turned me off from wanting to play it and soon found interest in other titles. Looking back on my experience with the game, pushing past the fear, it was really fun and I had a pretty good time.
Really interesting to see you make a video about this, I remember playing this way back on the Wii u (yes, really played it on there), was so scared at the time and remember certain little sections, pretty fun from what I remember.
@@christiancryers haha, thanks man, you're totally cool, just finished the video and wanted to say that I thought it was really good! Genuinely, this video had a pretty good script and was decently edited considering it was just you! Just know that you're doing a good job, and I didn't watch a few of the past videos cause I wasn't familiar with the subjects in them, but I'll try to catch any content that I feel safe watching.
So the tune to "God save the King/Queen" was super popular across Europe in the 1700-1900s and one version was used by the German Empire called "Heil dir im Siegerkranz". Every time I hear the song all I can think about is a parody of the Zombi U trailer but it takes place on a WW1 battlefield with German soldiers, especially the image of the royal guard beheading a zombie with his bayonet would be such a cool image if you swapped it out for the early/pre war German infantryman.
Zombi for me and my friends will always be a classic. It was one of the few Wii U games I owned and the PS4 port was the first game I ever got a platinum trophy on. I’ve played through it so much I recently logged a 3 hour and 30 minute permadeath file. I’m glad that people feel the same way I do about this great game.
Honestly I watched your video and felt like it was from a TH-camr who has 100k subs or more explaining about forgotten games, for me means you deserve more attention for your work, the writing is good the montage is simple but nicely done, keep it up!
Zombi was among the first dozen of games I installed onto my series X. Also me and you are of the same mind when it came to the zombie genre being simultaneously terrified of them and loving them at the same time. Watching lego zombie videos or machinima’s of them like 28 days later San Andreas (which wasn’t based on the movie, I think) or 28 weeks later in Halo 3 (which was).
Idk why but this is one of the only games that give me anxiety. You gotta make sure you look around and make sure there aren't any zombies sneaking up on you. It gives you adrenaline when they are trying to get you. Your heart starts beating faster than before and you feel genuine fear. I actually enjoy the game when the WII U came out this was my game.
Congrats on the success of this video. Who'd have thought that a Zombi video would go viral in 2023?! I managed to play this on WiiU back in the day. It pretty much made me fall in love with survival horror. My favourite mode was actually perma death because the stakes are so high. Especially in those moments when you get swarmed. Also the gamepad was an amazing addition. It made the looting process so much more immersive. Enemies would sneak up on you whist you were looking at the other screen. I would say to anyone reading this, who hasn't played it... If you like slower, more thoughtful action/horror games, full of atomphere, tension, and a solid challenge (e.g. 2 of my favourites being DayZ and Dark Souls) I think you will enjoy Zombi.
Also worth mentioning, in the orginal WiiIU version, there was the equivalent of Dark Souls online messages, where you could leave graffiti signs for other players. Plus, every so often. the zombie version of players who had died would appear in your world with all their loot. Quite a unique mechanic that really made the world feel alive.
@@MattPuxty Christ man. What happened to gaming. Innovation. Everything is just either trying to copy this or monopolize that. Greed and AAA corruption has tainted the creativity, art and passion that video games once were all about. That why we were called nerds, cause the shit was cool as fuck and creative. Now.. maybe I’ve just become jaded and old, but I can’t not unsee and unhear all the information I’ve consumed over the years with gaming. It’s just so sad how so many things we loved in the past are either being destroyed in the future or left in the past.
@@theucheao I think it’s pretty typical when something becomes successful. Fewer big companies are willing to take risks and things stagnate. Saying that, I genuinely believe gaming is in a good place right now. In recent years, the most interesting experiences have come from indie studios. I think we’re lucky to live in a time when indie gaming is thriving.
@@MattPuxty That is true and I can agree. Been seeing the indie horror media blow hp with genuinely good games recently when it’s been the opposite for quite some years now. I just remember an era where big companies even then still cared about their fans and audience. It just reminds me of the day and age we live in now.
I played the original version of the game on the Wii U around the time it had came out and I remember my pre-teen brain being blown away by the impressiveness and the grittiness of the environments and experiencing VERY many moments where I was petrified and unable to make progress because the game scared me so much. I can't overstate how much of a vastly different experience--and I would say far scarier and not just difficult--to play the game as it was originally intended because having 50% of your UI being split between the TV and the gamepad meant you had to be pretty mindful of what you actually were doing with your hands and how you were holding the gamepad. This wasn't a game where you could just slouch down on the couch with one leg up on the back, holding the controller however you wanted. No, you had to sit up playing this and I often even felt obligated to stand up during some of the more tense sequences. There was an incredibly visceral feeling of being utterly vulnerable when doing the simplest of things like searching bodies, going through your inventory, scoping in with the sniper rifle or using the prepper pad's scanner or even just activating the motion scanner. Because it meant taking your EYES away from where danger could be coming from to actually look at things like your map to see where sources of hidden movement were on the screen in your hands--only to be surprised when you see a blip coming up behind you and the panic of looking up and trying to turn around and face the enemy. That little camera that shows the area around or behind you when you do things like go into your inventory was huge when playing on the Wii U because you were able to use the right stick to move the camera's angle and actually glance around to spot danger approaching while you're vulnerable going through your things. I still own the game but haven't touched it in many, many years at this point and there are still so many things ingrained in my mind about this game and how much it affected me, traumatized me, and captured my imagination. (Yes, the reload for the handguns is also perfectly captured in my brain too.)
Hey, I have to say, awesome vid! I'm so happy you dusted off this game and brought it back for a little while so it's not forgotten just yet. I've not played this game ever, or actually even heard about it ever, and I'm absolutely mind blown cause of that. Zombies are my favorite horror genre, the idea is simple, but there is so much room to work with and to make them special or interesting when making a game, movie or a book, and so on. Anyways thanks and great vid! I will definitely check out your channel!
I'd love a zombi style game set up north. A larger map that can be afforded in more modern games could capture the grim hellscape of postindustrial northern cities, as well as the beautiful, yet eerie countryside of England's better half.
I have memories of playing this on original hardware w/my cousins. We were horror hounds, and madly in love with Shaun of the Dead and Resident Evil 1-3. After getting our hands on ZombiU, it was such a harrowing yet engaging experience. The WiiU tablet was tricky to get used to but it made me love item managing. It bred awesome moments, and was genuinely scary (esp when the volume was cranked up.) It our first encounter with a permadeath mechanic which was mindblowing. It was hella stellar when I realized that our last few characters were walkers! A true hidden gem this one!! You've also inspired me to download it on my PS4, im itching to do a run tonight 🤟
19:46 (Slightly off-topic) I can understand that feeling, I lived part of my life in Texas. Watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies feels oddly nostalgic because the sets look like places I been to, even though I haven’t traveled the entire state
I love this review so much due to the fact that the zombies in this game might be the scariest ones I’ve ever seen due to how you have to be careful because of how fast they could kill you (especially in survival mode) and how nerve racking you would be. The soundtrack, design, atmosphere, all contribute to this and it’s very underrated and kinda difficult to beat first time around too. The way the zombies move are horrific including the very dark areas where you can’t see them and there’s a horde of them. Mines everywhere, explosives, etc. I wish this game got a sequel but it’s probably never going to happen which is just like the cod ghost scenario where the campaign was really good and they left off a cliffhanger which never got resolved mostly because the multiplayer was hated which sucks, but overall Zombi U is one of the most unique survival horror games I’ve played and it’s one of my favorites as well, no question.
Honestly always enjoy these type of review documentaries, might buy the game when it goes on sale again. Would love to see more of this type of content that’s part of the whole zombie genre
I remember playing this way back when with my best friend after school every Friday when I was 14/15. We'd spend a whole week talking about it and strategizing our next moves and then getting too scared each time we had to play. Sometimes we would play the bonus "arcade" mode. We never got to finish the game because of a glitch where our C4 was lost. But still this video brought back fond memories.
I've had this game since its original launch on Wii U and have always been too scared to play it after spending an hour or so with it back in the day! The death mechanic coupled with atmosphere was too tense for me. I loved it's use of the Wii U second screen. I need to be brave and try it again. I was watching a BattlefrontUpdates video and your Zombi video appeared in the side bar suggestions FYI.
My moms friend got me this game as a gift after my surgery. Since I was stuck laying in bed, this is all I played. I loved it. The anxiety I felt looking away from the TV to look at the pad helped ground the game. Because if you were rummaging through a backpack in real life you could get caught off guard.
Definitely an underrated game, I remember getting my WiiU for Christmas with this game and till this day ZombiU is my favorite zombie game ever. Such a masterpiece, if you haven’t played it and zombie games are your thing I highly suggest getting it
This game is awesome. The aesthetic and atmosphere are top notch, plus its got the combat and gameplay to keep you hooked. One of the best zombie games i've ever played.
This game has the purest sense of dread and hopelessness that I personally have ever seen in a video game. It's actually insane to me how a wii game from like 2011 can beat the shit out of modern triple a survival horror games in that sense.
ZombiU was like one of the few games that's actually worth to play on WiiU. Sadly WiiU was not that successful and its failure lead to the poor sales of the game which caused Ubisoft to port the game to PC and consoles but it had technical problems and had poor reception, which also sealed the fate of sequel.
As a fellow zombie genre enjoyer I'm surprised I've never heard of the console port for this game. Thank you for bringing it to my attention, really enjoyed the video! :)
I thought I was a survival horror fan, until I came across this game, now I'm a victim. This game will give you a heart attack. I actually screamed and jumped out my seat a couple times before quitting. I now smoke cigarettes, and have PTSD. I'm in counseling, and rehabilitation for cowardice. The zombie in the palace did this to me.
I would like to add that the multiplayer of ZombiU was dope as hell. It would be an asymmetric player vs. player where one was a regular survivor trying to fulfill objectives (sort of like a capture the flag game) and the other player would be a “game master” sort of player where instead of actually being on the level they would place zombies to kill the other player, guard the flags and capture them, all while using only the gamepad. The tv was for the survivor while the gamepad was for the game master. The survivor is in an fps while the game master is in a strategy game! A videogame where the multiplayer puts the players in different genres is something that I really have never seen before!
cool as a mode sure, but everyone was dissapointed when they clicked multiplayer expecting to be able to run around together only to be met with a strategy game lol
Thought this game looked dope when i came out on wiiu, but i couldnt even watch lets plays bc it was wiiu. Totally forgot about it till now. Awesome video m8.
Never actually finished this game, but damn do I love it. I've stood by this being one of the best WiiU games for years. Glad to see more people talking about it! My theory as to why it wasn't so well received is because it used the "old-school" zombies, rather than "modern" zombies. Slow, shambling, very few of them, but one can easily kill you if you aren't careful, and they're tough to kill. It came at a time when zombies were everywhere, and a lot of zombie games were starting to use hordes of quick, weak zombies that you can mow down like nothing. It just wasn't the style at the time, but that's exactly why I loved it, because it was something different than say, Dead Rising or Left 4 Dead 2
i think it being called “zombi” is nice. sends chills to me and it’s eye catching with it not having the “e” at the end. idk i like the simple title. it drew my attention
+1 for Zombie UK which I think would have worked pretty well; although it's really Zombie London, and I would have preferred to see Zombie *picturesque rural village name
I would loved to have seen a sequel explore more of rural Britain. Almost all media set in the UK takes place primarily in London so exploring lesser known places would have been awesome.
Great video. This game has been resurfacing on my "go back and play" list. While I did beat it 1 time without getting bit or died on ZombiU, I will not attempt that again. The constant horror of getting bit when your health is low is enough to keep anyone on the edge of their seat the entire game. Keep the health up!
I absolutely love this game. I managed to find it on sale at the Xbox store. Took a punt and couldn't believe how good it was and yet I've never heard anyone talk about this game. Fair play to you🧟♂️🧟🧟♀️
I think this game resonated with me because I was always looking for a zombie game that made zombies scary again for me. I feel like Zombi did a good job of making every encounter feel like it could be your last one. I always loved reading novels that portrayed the undead this way. Could you possibly review State of Decay 1 & 2 next?
I actually started this game up years ago on my PlayStation but never got around to finishing it due to the fact that it scared the sh*t out of me lol. After watching your review for it, I’m gonna definitely give it another try! Also, liked and subbed mate!
Oh and also the amount of views you’ve gotten have exploded, it’s because you did a great job on explaining the game! My TH-cam algorithm recommended your video and here I am! It also attracted me because Ubisoft as a whole hasn’t been doing anything that really stands out to me anymore over the more recent years and the title of the video made me want to tap on it. You’re almost at half a mill on views mate!
I grew up with zombies in media also so I cannot get enough of them. When I was little and my family got a Wii U zombi was one of the first games I got on it and it was an awesome game to my little American baby brain
I played this game on the E3 show floor and thought it was so rad- something I am surprised you didn't mention (not sure if the ports kept it), was the asymmetrical multiplayer! One person would be a survivor on the TV and the player with the gamepad spawned zombies in a top down view. It was such a blast to play with a friend.
When I got this game as a middle schooler, I was already pretty familiar with and used to horror movies and especially zombie media just didn’t scare me much. And yet somehow, all these years later, I’m still so spooked by it I’ve been putting off replaying it. Something about this game in particular terrifies me in ways most other things have failed to and I don’t know exactly why, but I absolutely love it for that. That’s gotta be some kind of a sign that it’s a good horror game lol.
Id actually like to see a zombie game where the virus is cured, and civilization is mostly back and in order. But there still being pockets of infected across the world, and the player’s decisions are the thing that will bring the world back to normal, or can potentially break everything down into chaos.
Theres a movie like that and the newly cured infected are treated horribly and hunted down by some groups and they remember all their actions while infected
I can't think of a game like that but the movie 28 Weeks Later is pretty spot on to that description. It is a sequel to 28 Days Later but it's completely standalone so you don't have to have seen it to watch 28 Weeks.
I remember playing this on the Wii U. I remember it being really hard lmao. I always quit playing in the beginning because of the whole you die once mechanic. The multiplayer was really fun but super unbalanced lol. The Wii U game pad owner could spawn riot shielded zombies indefinitely with no consequences. And there isn’t really a good way to kill a whole horde of them. You have to melee them to kill. So it was just a very awkward experience where we would tell each other that when you the one in the zombies team. Riot zombies aren’t allowed lol.
Great video! You've inspired me to possibly write something on how this game can tell stories through its gameplay. Last time I played it scared the crap out of me and you definitely captured why in this video. Keep up the good work!
I've tried to play ZombiU like a year ago on Steam, but suffered through so many issues, i always ended up crashing after Ubisoft logo. Soon to 2 hours mark on Steam and more hours spent looking for fix, i decided to refund the game... Quite a shame, since I've heard so many good things about and when i finally got an opportunity play it, i couldn't.
Such a shame, playing on PlayStation i didn't have too many issues but i know that PC ports aren't always the best so thats a shame. Maybe one day you'll be able to pick it up though it's worth playing.
This was an amazing video, as someone that played the game so many things you mentioned were absolutely correct including the fact you get attached to the survivors also very happy you mentioned that they had Jonh Boyega for one of their ads
I clicked this video without looking at your sub count. You're producing content that I would associate with creators with 100k plus subs! Keep it up looking forward to go though your backlog.
Thanks for 600K on the Video!!! If you got some loose change I'd appreciate a tip over on KoFi. Love you all.

That can be a good move.
definitely. shambling flesheaters are so boring and overplayed, give it something to keep you on your toes.
Is Zombi on the Nintendo switch.
A cool detail: depending on how long you've survived, once you die, your infected self will not only become stronger and harder to kill, but also the prepper will comment on your death. If you die with a low level character he'll be like "ah well, he was useless anyways", but if you die with a high level character he'll be shocked and angry.
And if you die a lot of times he might say "God, I can't stand to see another one die."
My first character lasted so long and died inside the gov building
Also another thing Prepper will say “hats off to you, you cheated death longer than most.” Which is bittersweet tbh.
Fun trivia: the Baseball Bat and Nail board were in the WiiU version but they were only given out as prizes to certain people who posted screenshots and comments on the ZombiU Miiverse page.
I "won" one of of the baseball bats.
I never even knew about that, that's awesome. How many people ended up getting baseball bats? I can't find anything online about it.
@Chuss Animations exactly you get a cricket bat lol
@Chuss Animations I don't know about PC or Xbox, but in PS4 you can find a nailed baseball bat. I can't remember where, but it was the strongest melee weapon in the game.
That's such a random way to get an exclusive weapon in a 'zombi' game
@@impracticalnukeit's in all versions, I played through the game on Xbox one.
Wii u had a 2 player mode too
I played the Wii U version so many times lol
Zombi is called Zombi, not because of the "U" being removed due to the porting. The "U" is the same deal as adding "3d" to Ocarina of Time on 3ds. Zombi was actually one of the first series that Ubisoft has ever made and was a home computer game from 1986 that they rebooted for the "Zombi U" title.
Oh wow ive never actually heard that being brought up before in anything. Good bit of Trivia.

@@wolfiethefurrygamer1908 You are actually correct, the listed titles on Imdb don't include local releases. My apologies. But the 1986 game in fact could have been inspired by the localised name of Dawn of The Dead.

Bro dying light can get fuckin terrifying
@@Obiwanrollmeone Never got scared in Dying Light. The only other zombie game where I was mildly anxious playing was the first time playing the Resident Evil 2 Remake.
@@XeresKyle damn bruh u so brave i cant even play state of decay 1 without pissing my pants nigga, ahahahahaha
@@XeresKyle ever played Verruckt in CoD world at war??
@@XeresKyle try resident evil 3 with nemesis lol
Dude this was my first zombie game either than call of duty black ops 2 zombies. It scared the FUCK out of me. I love it man it’s such a good game

Zombie U, on the U is brilliant. Looking down at the screen to replicate looking through your backpack for items is genius. As you're looking down it's in real time so you'll unexpectedly get attacked. True Tension.
This game is incredibly mediocre, and that's being generous. Most all aspects of the game are extremely shite

Zombi is scary because you can't even see anything, hence why all of the other zombie survival don't go as hard as this
Also ZombiUK doesn't sound that bad of a name, it's catchy
And it's based in the uk

You weren't even half way through the game yet.

16:08 Another thing is that, the name "Zombi" sounds like something you would name to a kid-friendly game, not to a survival horror.
Great detailed review man! Never knew this game existed!
Great video, I also never experienced the zombie fatigue myself. Can’t get enough of the undead buggers

I remember playing this way back when with my best friend after school every Friday when I was 14/15. We'd spend a whole week talking about it and strategizing our next moves and then getting too scared each time we had to play. Sometimes we would play the bonus "arcade" mode.
You never even came close to the scariest part of the game which is the daycare center towards the end.
6:56 ahhh yup, sounds about right, nice one though! That’s further than most people when they first tried that mode

Fair play to you🧟♂️🧟🧟♀️
I've started over 3 times but have not finished it. Now I'm going through all my games again and this has motivated me to finally finish it.
ZombiU is unironically the only game that if I could make Ubisoft to make a sequel to I would. The ways this games world could expand is insane.
I bet the French tried to make UK look as grotesque as they could to spite the British, but accidentally made the most accurate depiction possible.
Zombi? More like just "The Brits." on Mondays.
I grew up with zombies in media also so I cannot get enough of them. When I was little and my family got a Wii U zombi was one of the first games I got on it and it was an awesome game to my little American baby brain
Love the the atmosphere and ambience
I played this game on the E3 show floor and thought it was so rad- something I am surprised you didn't mention (not sure if the ports kept it), was the asymmetrical multiplayer! One person would be a survivor on the TV and the player with the gamepad spawned zombies in a top down view. It was such a blast to play with a friend.
It never got ported over to other consoles so i never got the chance to play it but from what people have said i hear it was pretty fun
First game I got with the wii u back in 2012. Absolutely loved it! The way you used the gamepad with the game was very cool.
Play world War z
I can't think of a game like that but the movie 28 Weeks Later is pretty spot on to that description. It is a sequel to 28 Days Later but it's completely standalone so you don't have to have seen it to watch 28 Weeks.
@@jameslilly3750 You can't just say this and not tell us the damn name, man!
@@thesyndicatebruh it's The Cured (2017)
that lego zombie thing you randomly brought up is a classic from my childhood, watched the entire series when i was young lol
I've always wondered about the multiplayer mode since it didn't carry over into the ports. Sounds like fun despite the shortcomings.
The explosive ones were great, they would instakill the player, and they had a mask so they were quiet and sneaky
Not sure why you only have 2.2k subs, your vids have the quality of big video essay channels. Keep with this quality and you're gonna be huge.
This is the first zombie game that actually scared me
Great video! You've inspired me to possibly write something on how this game can tell stories through its gameplay. Last time I played it scared the crap out of me and you definitely captured why in this video. Keep up the good work!
The WiiU version really was an awesome experience.
Great game, one of the more realistic ones as well. I love the fact that there is no music in the game it really amps up the natural ambience
This was an amazing video, as someone that played the game so many things you mentioned were absolutely correct including the fact you get attached to the survivors
also very happy you mentioned that they had Jonh Boyega for one of their ads
Been waiting for a good vid on this game
I clicked this video without looking at your sub count. You're producing content that I would associate with creators with 100k plus subs! Keep it up looking forward to go though your backlog.
This is definitely one of the most underrated games of all time.
