Liam Clancy - And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda

I never met Liam Clancy. I often wish I had. No one could "sell" a song like Liam. I did have the great, good fortune of meeting his musical partner Tommy Makem who played with The Clancy Brothers. I visited Tommy Makem's Irish Pavilion, his bar in New York whenever I was in town. I have a somewhat vague recollection of a night there with Tommy & the actress Carmel Quinn on the occasion of her birthday. What a night that was. Complete with singing on the bandstand. Anyway here is Liam and the ultimate anti-war tune. Liam's gone now but what a legacy he has left us.

Living in NYC, I was a regular at Tommy Makem's. Saw many incredible acts - including Tommy Makem singing with my ex's band The Celtic Folk. Miss those days like crazy!

Yes , along with Willie McBride the best 2 anti war songs ever written. Every congressman and senator should play these 2 songs and take their staffs to the Viet Nam Memorial wall on a regular basis.

Somemany irish died in the useless war .my own family and my town every street in kikenny had somone in this war..god help there familys getting the letters that there sons were dead .
