He's not pretending he doesn't. There's a GIANT difference between being able to communicate with those around you in normal daily life vs giving an interview that will be recorded. Nobody wants to make a mistake and look dumb. May not want people mocking his accent either.
His English isn’t very good- he’s not fluent. I speak some Spanish, but I understand it more. So, if someone asks me something in Spanish I usually respond in English because I feel more comfortable. I hate sounding dumb or saying the wrong things.
Unlike Ichiro, Darvish has shown that he can answer interview questions in English. But I think Yu just wants to keep his interpreter employed to not make him feel bad with relieving of his duties.
Although, he understands the questions in English he uses an interpreter for better clarity in his answers. Yu can better articulate with accuracy of what he wants to express in Japanese than English. His English is good, though.
@@robvikingoneaviation bullshit. I'm sick of this interpreter crap. You make a living in the United States for well over a decade speak the damn language
@@GJLCreativeStudiosSicko Nut job. then you don't deserved to have them on the Padres . *** it's a good thing Roki and Yoshi are with the Dodgers, they can speak all of the Japanese that they want,,
Darvish was a beast! 🐐
Is Yu's interpreter doing a good job of interpreting what he's saying?
A terrific job 💯
Better than all the Dodgers interpreters.
It’s ridiculous that every question revolves Sasaki. Instead of him, his teams plans etc.
Dumb 🫏 questions...Roki is gone who cares. Ask the Padres player about the Padres you clowns...disrespectful af!
What hat is that?
Ugly hat
he knows this season is going to be terrible for the padres lmfao
This interpreter is terrible, compared with Ohtani’s.
That dude speaks English and I'm sick of him pretending he doesn't

That’s so typical American! Comparing to other nationalities, don’t speak the host nation nor any other language when they live abroad 😂

Am I missing something? He can understand English but can’t speak it well?

Yu can speak English well and he has answered interviews in English but it is to our benefit that he gives a more complete answer in Japanese. 😄
