Saw the picture today at DQ while passing through Gadsden Alabama. Never heard of the band...even while living near San Francisco during '76 , and graduating high school that same year '76! That picture created an interest in learning more for the last 2 hours of driving! Sad how Manuel died.
@@thethrashpandaI was born and raised in Prescott. Knew Gary well. Along with his Prescott friends Tommy Ford (TY) and Sammy Dundee. In about 2012 or so got to meet Gary’s daughter who lived in Little Rock and worked for Tom Trash, an attorney. We had some fun conversations about her Dad. The DQ pic is, of course, famous. In lots of DQs around the country. Brings back the 60s. If we’d only known.
My husband and I always met for a cone under the picture of the Zonks at DQ when we were dating. I have asked everywhere about getting a copy for our house, but even DQ corporate office couldn’t help me get one. Anyway, they will always be special to me!

How funny. My search was prompted by a visit to a Diary Queen too (Vienna,IL). I never realized that picture was in so many DQs. I'm not sure how to interpret that. Was the Zonk's show such a highlight in DQ history that it has warranted the need for this picture to be featured all around the US? I'm intrigued by DQ's choice in this. Or maybe DQ just doesn't have that many historical pictures so they just mass produced the Zonks picture to fill some space....
