Thanks for posting this. Buddha was my boy...He was very special. we filmed this many years ago, and I lost him in 2004. This is a great memory....marilyn
They may be fighting and defensive dogs but they are the biggest babies ever. Our shar-pei/lab mix is the biggest pushover we've ever had but also the most trainable and intelligent.
We're on our second shar-pei, after owning one that lived nearly 14 years. Best dogs in the world. Never had to potty train either one of them, I think they are very sensitive to fouling their living area. Very loving, intelligent dogs that definitely require attention and socialization else they get too group-centric and can't get along easily with other people or dogs. Health issues are indeed abundant, and it isn't bad advice to tell someone that a shar-pei can be expensive to care for.
Best breed ever. We love our Shar Pei’s. There is no other breed for our family though I do not believe just anyone should have one. They are strong willed and need loving direction from their people. It is a relationship that requires a lot of work.
My grandpa had a shar pei and when buster passed away he was always a little sad but then we got Darcie who we gave the same last name as our grandpa and even though Darcies our dog she always puts a smile on his face and for a few seconds the world seems safe
My sharpei "Reuben" is 9 , he got SARDS last year and is totally blind now and his hips are on the way out in fast fashion.I think its almost time to make that call..its gona absolutley destroy me. He's my best mate. Such a loyal companion this breed and alot smarter then what some people give them credit for. They really are a barrel full of laughs and have that "big dog mentality" along with the "big dog bark" excellent family pet and guard dog
I have a shar-bull. he is the SWEETEST, most loyal and most affectionate dog that I have ever owned, but also the most AGGRESSIVE toward other animals(and strangers the dare venture onto our property) he is not familiar with. Takes the fun out of going to the beach!(but then again, he HATES water anyhow, Lol)
I got i shar-pei he is 9 now still going strong than got 3 more . I have 4 and would get 5 but would get kicked out by my wife. We love them Great dogs!
Hard to train??? I think someones trying to take more credit for training skills than what is deserved. lol My boy was darn near born potty trained and remembers well when hes corrected for something, IF we have to correct him. He is by far the easiest, most pleasant breed we've owned. And we've had a LOT of dogs. The ONLY problem we have with Baker is fighting the urge to get more Bakers..lol
You're unfortunate as they're a wonderful pet. Wonderful guard dog (our guy won't let anybody near the house) but also incredibly affectionate. I would highly recommend them but be prepared to have to do work with them! Do your homework before taking one on!
Yes you should just google Shar-pei breaders in canada. And they only give two bones for personality. well my Shar-pei, Suki, should have twenty for personality. she's such a loving caring dog. Shar-pei's rule
Depends on what kind you want if you want one that is AKC certified they are lot more I have one that isn't certified..Mine is a Bald Chinese Shar Pei We paid 750 for ours, her father was Blue and Mother was cream, she turned out to be Orange with blue furs and she is a beauty...We name her Espresso..she is perfect combo..there are also the Cauliflower Shar Peis, they take allot of care...
my shar pei isnt like that at all.. very stuborn. if his gonna do a trick he must first analyse what the snack is, and maybe then have the strenght to do it.
@nblax41 They are truely are loyal and loves there familly. Wally( my pei) follows me every where! when experts call them fighting dogs, it relates more to the standard bread. The miniature and toy are the opposit. they truely are great dogs!

The first time I brought my tough girl to the beach, the surf made her so nervous she threw up....

i know the horsecoat isn't as soft...but it just looks so much cooler:)!
EVERYONE NEED A SHAR PEI!!!
Lol, Well, it took 5 years, but Torpedo finally learned "sit." Oh he is smart, just very stubborn. :) House training he knew from day 1.
Stubborn
I prefer the horse coat. More agile and healthier. Also I prefer the more working variant. Not so sweet but stalwart and confident.
Best dog I have ever owned, however, I would describe this breed alot of ways and "defensive" would not be one of them.
That horse-coat
Hard to train? Is she nuts? The 3 Pei's I've had were super smart and remembered their tricks.
look at those 90's clothes! haha when they said eye stich i knew i was out.
my girl is 13 and has one eye. shes awesome
whats the average price for a shar pei?
you mean that skinny tail?

My char pei has the coarse horse hair! Altho her fur prickles, I wouldn't change her for the world.
Yes Eveyone needs a Shar-Pei, but not mine. I wouldn't give her up for anything!
NICE
Becky Landers uh
"I've done a lot of dogs" oh yeah?

@avhuaman Yes they do
so you just want them to live uncomfortably. the best dog on earth that suffers because of their structure
