Very clear videos, thank you!! Going to finally try some screen printing now during lockdown, no excuse now! The paper stencil method didn’t work well for me at art college years ago, maybe this one will be better!
Hi, I'm taking a silkscreen class for the second time. So, my class usually uses photo emulsion instead of screen filler. And to reclaim our screens, we use ink remover first to remove any leftover ink (we use speedball acrylic printing ink) that may still be on the screen. And then we use photo emulsion remover to remove the photo emulsion. Because of the current pandemic situation, my university might switch to remote learning and I'm trying to learn how to do silkscreen at home. So my questions: Would the speed clean remove the leftover speedball acrylic printing ink? And would it be okay to use speed clean remove first and then use photo emulsion remover (I am planning on using speedball photo emulsion)?
Great questions! Speed Clean is a great way to clean your screen prior to use, but would not be suitable to use to reclaim a screen that has been used with photo emulsion. Both products are uniquely formulated to pair with each system (i.e. Speed Clean with Screen Filler, Emulsion Remover with Emulsion). Both systems are great for use if printing in the home, and we wish you lots of happy printing ahead!
Question : I have used the emulsion process to design my screenprint. It was nearly perfect but i scraped off three lines as it was drying post -first scrub. I bought drawing fluid to add on those lines. Do i just put that on and light expose it? Or do i just wash off the blue? Or do i need the screen filler ? Can the screen filler go over art i want to stay settled permanently as they are into the screen ?
we'd be happy to help troubleshoot to see how we can save the image in your screen. could you please contact our technical experts at info@speedballart.com so they can review the artwork and see what may be the best solution?
So several days have passed after I used my screen to print, you mention in the video that the sooner you clean it the better. I teach different classes so it requires me to have the screen ready several days. Is it too late to clean it? Or can I still use the screen filler remover after days have passed?
Thanks so much for using Speedball products! Unfortunately, we don't have any alternative products that have been lab-verified to be suitable for use in reclamining a screen with screen filler; Speed Clean is the only product we can guarantee.
Hey man ive had my screen for a while in my garage, and im trying to remove the emulsion with the speedball emulsion remover. I’ve followed the directions carefully many times and have not been able to reclaim my screen in the slightest. Please help
I am sorry you are having trouble cleaning your screen! This video is for drawing fluid and screen filler, if your screen has these products on it you will need to use Speed Clean to remove the filler, the Photo Emulsion Remover is for removing emulsion.
The best recommendation our team in the lab has is to allow for a mild soak of the screen in the Speed Clean prior to exposing it to water. That is likely to help faciliate the reclaiming process since it's been on the screen for an extended period of time. Thanks!
Hi Janice--great question! Yes, there is a difference between the two products. Speed Clean can be used to clean and degrease screens in addition to being ideal for reclaiming screens that have Screen Filler on them. Photo Emulsion Remover is the product that is used for reclaiming a screen that has been used for the photo emulsion process. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much! I removed the screen filler with the speedclean. However, there are small areas in the corners that won't be removed (even after trying three times). Are there any tips on removing these areas?
Are you hoping to print onto glass? If so, we'd recommend our Acrylic Screen Printing Inks, but should note that this is likely the ink could scratch and peel from the glass as it's not specifically formulated for use on glass.
Woah! Mr. Speedball has a sick tattoo!

Mines Was In For 2-3 Weeks I Got Most Of It Out Using Hot Water & The Remover I Used Up Most Of The Filler Liquid Sadly 😭

Great question! Yes, that period of time should still allow the screen to be reclaimed using the Speed Clean. Hope that helps!
Would the remover be safe to wash down a home kitchen sink?
Yes, all products shown in this video are safe to wash down your kitchen sink. Thanks for tuning in!
is there any alternative to the speed clean? i need to clean the screen filler out of a screen asap but i cannot get any speed clean.

How many times Can a screen go through this before it’s no good?
If the screen is properly stored, cared for and cleaned it can go through this process many times!
Can I use photo emulsion remover to remove screen filler?
Screen Filler will need to be reclaimed using Speed Clean. The Photo Emulsion Remover is formulated specifically for the Emulsion system. Thanks!

I left an image for a year. Now have difficulty completely removing filler from some areas. Any tips other than don’t wait so long?
Thanks

wait you were able to remove the screen filler after a year of having it on the screen?

Is it alcohol based?
We have reviewed with our technical team and have confirmed that the product is not alcohol based.
