      I'm waiting that programmable back buttons or paddles will become standard in 3rd party controllers. I won't buy a PRO controller just for that, I don't care about the "premium" quality (=make the controller heavier to hold).
      They're really just trivial to implement, I don't get why no cheap peripheral manufacturer still has tried, being the first one it will sell truckloads of controllers.

    The fact that you can open the front and change the joystick mechanism as a whole is interesting.
    As a fps player and sports game player all my controllers have had issues with the left joystick. Sprinting not working, the movement not being consistent.
    Just depends on how much is a replacement joystick.
    The problem in the normal controller isn't the joystick itself but the underlying mechanism that breaks for clicking L3.

      As for cost, I have gone through 3 ps4 controllers in a year, is it worth the cost yes. Because the analog stick on the ps4 continually goes bad and pulls, where if that would happen with the C40 I can adjust through the settings the pull, bringing it back and fixing the issue myself

  • @LeoLeeGaming
    @LeoLeeGaming 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You should have mentioned one of the MAJOR benefits of having that modular design... other modded controllers always end up having issues with the analog sticks drifting. If that happens with the C40, you just buy another analog and fix the issue immediately. And it will probably only cost around $20. I have to send my scuf impact in, pay for shipping, and wait for an estimate. Then if I approve, it could take up to 8 weeks to get it back. And I paid over $200 for the damn thing.

    • @LeoLeeGaming
      @LeoLeeGaming 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mario M It's not just the stick. The entire analog module is removable in addition to the stick. That's why you can swap the analog and dpad positions to your liking.

    Just want to point out that every button is reprogrammable on the fly not just the two on the back and is super easy to do. Also he omitted the fact that the dongle is included rather than using Bluetooth because it is a much faster and more efficient connection speed than Bluetooth is capable of. Wireless with the dongle is less than a 5ms delay which is practically the same as going wired. I don't know the wireless specs for the scuff or razor but that's a huge deal I think he missed out on discussing. Personally I'm loving the controller so far.

    Astro needs to push this concept further by making the buttons from the upper right customizable, so these can swap locations with the upper left's d-pad/stick; this way, it could be the first professional controller reliable for both right-handed and left-handed players.

    I've been waiting for reviews for the Astro C40 TR to see if it's worth purchasing, after being on the search for a high end controller and purchasing the Scuf Vantage and the Razer Raiju Ultimate. With both of them I've had multiple stick drift issues, and been through the process of firmware updating and returns to factory. Even exchanges for new ones. And after all that, the Vantage is going back for a total refund and the Raiju Ultimate was completely fixed. Now it works as it was intended to, but it has been a royal pain. The only thing I will miss from the Vantage are the buttons and paddle layouts, specially the new side ones (sax buttons), but the Raiju Ultimate (once you get used to their layout) is pretty darn good. One thing that stands out for me to choose between them, is the symmetrical (Razer Raiju Ultimate) vs the offset (Scuf Vantage) sticks. I definitely prefer the symmetrical stick configuration. I guess I will wait a whole lot more to see if the Astro C40 TR will be the one to beat the Razer Raiju Ultimate I own,

Hopefully the next generation of PS controller have paddles or alternate buttons for non pro/competitive players. I just think having a couple buttons on the bottom of my controller is nice. Controllers aren't meant for PC and if you're using a controller on PC you should really just learn the Steam controller, it takes some getting used to but it's by far the best PC controller and the customization is next level.
      The point to these are to reduce movement between sticks and face buttons, which improves response time and reduces strain. It's meant to make face buttons easier to access.

    I recently grabbed a Brook X One from Amazon for $50 and put it on the Xbox One Elite controller I which I got on a significant sale awhile back. So far, it's been working great, and is also compatible with my Switch (although I haven't tried it yet). Even adding up the full cost for these two items, you'd save roughly $25. That said, if the main thing you want out of a PS4 controller is an Xbox One-like stick layout (like I was), then you could get a Brook X One and a regular Xbox controller and then be about $100 ahead on getting a C40/Scuf/Raiju. Not saying that these three controllers aren't good, I'm sure they're great, just wanted to point out another great option out there, especially if you have an Xbox controller already.
    That said, I have a severe gizmo and gadget buying problem, so I still want to try out this C40, and so I certainly can't fault somebody else from wanting to do the same!

    I had to return astro c40 because in my personal experience, I did keep accidentally pressing the back buttons only because of the way I hold my controller (personal problem). I had to somewhat change the way I hold the controller, in order to hit the back buttons comfortably. During gaming and after gaming my marriage finger and pinky finger will feel sore/achy because of the way I had hold it. Overall it is a great controller, so don't get me wrong. It has no lag when in wireless mode, nice grip, it has some weight, swappable d pad and analog sticks, trigger stoppers, the button remapping mode for back buttons is easy, and the two different profiles for different button layouts. The only cons I found is that while in wireless mode, it doesn't show how much battery it has when you hold the PS button, the motion keyboard sensor doesn't work, and the controller in wire or wireless mode won't power on the Ps4/Ps4 pro.

Razer has yet to catch up to all of the complaints about the controller either not working or having really bad stick drift on the right stick. It's a shame because it looks like it would be a very nice feeling controller and probably would have been my first choice if it wasn't for those issues. I'm hoping the C40 isn't as disappointing.
