    Something else that's great about AFT but not mentioned in the video (possibly didn't exist back then?) is that your followers can have up to three outfits; a normal outfit, a city outfit and a home outfit, which they automatically switch to depending on where you are. I've also found that the city outfit works in some places that aren't separate cells like Raven Rock.
    The only downside to this is that they do spend about a quarter of a second in their underwear whenever they change, but I do quite like wandering around towns in ordinary clothing whenever I spend an extended period in one, so having my followers automatically do that as well is a really nice thing for me.

    I just want to tell you three things about AFT:
    1. AFT levels up your followers automatically.
    2. You can set up each follower to a specific combat style, which is very cool. It basically allows you to determine what kind of role each follower will play in your group. This is great for those who like playing with a small group of followers which feels like more d&d style.
    3. Finally, it come with the power tweak commands which opens a menu that allows you to give all sorts of commands to your followers, like to summon them all to your position, tell them all to sneak or to wait, etc. Overall it's a very neat mod.

      Hawx I'd be really interested in hearing your opinion on afv after using it for a while? I've just UNinstalled aft as i found the menu slow and cumbersome at times although i did really like the option to turn all your followers in to vampires or werewolf's so you can have a full army of werwolfs tearing it up

      AFVmodeller I wish I could tell you, but the playthrough I did after this (first LP on my channel) was playing a psychopathic assassin who was a bit of a loner. I didn't use followers very often before either. I imagine I will when I do my next Let's Play so I'll get back to you on that one :)

    Tried the three and I aggree.
    One follower : UFO
    Multiple vanilla followers : AFT
    Multiple custom and vanilla followers : EFF
    For my part EFF is the most compatible with custom followers and any mods that modifies NPCs or add them as potential followers. And the menu just saves you so much time !

    While I rarely use Followers, there are plenty of quests that assign them to the Player. Having discovered that AFT allows more distance to be placed between them and the DB helps remove the annoyance of being shoved down stairs and into traps. For this feature alone, I can recommend using this mod. And kudos on this informative vid :)

  • @FrozEnbyWolf150
    @FrozEnbyWolf150 9 ปีที่แล้ว +39

    Some additional details I've discovered after using all 3 mods.
    The good points of UFO were covered in the review, and by other commenters. It also removes follower level caps. Unfortunately, it's also the most unstable of the 3 mods, a pain to install and uninstall without causing errors, and followers may randomly leave without warning.
    With AFT, several of the options are pretty much cheating. Haven't used this as much, since like the above, it causes the "stuck walking in place" glitch and the menus are cumbersome. Still, I rather like the idea of having an army of werewolves or vampires.
    EFF is the most stable, though also the most exploitable. Followers have a secondary "inventory" that has infinite capacity, and can be taught any game engine spells you know. Having a very high number of followers may cause the game to hang on occasion as it tries to load them all through area transitions. Also, it gets very irritating when followers will start dry humping you because they follow too closely.

    IMO, AFT is the best. it has the features you mentioned in both other mods as well such as group commands and the like, plus it is deeply customizable down to fighting weapons and styles, outfits for different areas, dismissing in a specific area and setting a home for them to be dismissed to.

    One thing that's possible: Using UFO and AFT at the same time. Granted you're still locked into 15 followers per UFO's limitations, but you also get AFT's options and ability to have all the followers sandboxing in the cell without being told, so best of both worlds.

    TL;DR (or in this case, watch)
    *UFO*: Very immersion friendly, menus are simple and functional, works with vanilla followers perfectly and even some mod followers.
    *AFT*: Not immersion friendly, tedious menus due to being trough dialogue, but it has a lot of cool options that neither UFO nor EFF have.
    *EFF*: Not immersion friendly, really user friendly menu, great for big groups, lacks some options.

    Beautiful work. Comparisons like this are often sought after, but all anyone ever has to say is "I use [X] and it works great for me." No-one seems to ever actually want to go through and compare mods like this for the sake of the modding community as a whole. You're doing a really great service for those of us out there who can't go through and do this testing ourselves. Your videos are something special, and I certainly hope you keep it up.

    I had the same problem with UFO. I couldn't dismiss my followers, which was a must for uninstalling the mod. So, when I tried to uninstall it broke my save after talking to the firefly. I then had to go back a few saves prior (before I had 2 followers). Now I'm using AFT and am pretty happy with it.

  • @seanbrown41
    @seanbrown41 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I used UFO for some time and I had no problems with it. I never tried AFT, but recently, I installed the Requiem overhaul, but I couldn't get UFO to work with it. I tried it with EFF and it worked well, plus the idea of being able to set their residence is a cool feature just in case you dismiss them and you want them again, but you forgot where you originally found them. You can set them, as Hawx Gaming said, at your house so you can easily find them when and if you need them.

  • @fredEVOIX
    @fredEVOIX 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    tried AFT and the menus are very complicated but I followed some user comment on nexus telling you to set your follower gear and combat style the moment you hire him and later you don't have to mess with them that much
    I wouldn't recommend it for someone that changes followers all the time
    AFT allows you to set-up auto-switching exploring-cities-home clothes and they will wear only what you want them to wear (better than EFF) you can also tweak their combat behavior and spells well..but all of this require going into settings for a while before you can continue playing
    edit:tried EFF and other than the menu feels too simple for me compared to AFT

  • @Arelloroth

    I've been using EFF and AFT combined. Seems very good to me. with EFF i can set the groups and AFT i can get werewolve(s) or vampire(s) to fight with me. Werewolf followers in my opinion are by far the best, they can save you from dragons or when your just outnumbered greatly. I've not tried any of these alone yet but with EFF/AFT i think im good.

    • @GwaziMagnum
      @GwaziMagnum 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Donda Nana They only allow 30 in terms of who will sit at ______ base or location for you. But you can only ever have 5 followers actively following you at once.
      AFT is in my mind the highest quality mod, but I hate how it's creator basically went "I don't like more than 5 followers. Therefore you can't have it!". Which is honestly really childish of him. Especially since changing for him should be as easy as putting in a new number in the code.

    • @josephjenkins1655

      Gwazi Magnum

      I know of one person who managed to do that, but only after modding both mods in order to work together.

    One thing I don't like about AFT and it's keeping me from using it: once you use it your followers become permanently changed even if you uninstall it. Their stats and level will never return to their default values even if you reset AFT. I haven't tried the other mods.

    • @dasik84
      @dasik84 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know this was 8 years ago, but I'll add the info for some new players:
      This would happen with any mod. After uninstalling a mod, you must *always* use a save you created right before installing the mod. You *can't* continue with your latest save because it will destroy your game.

      I believe it is this - www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/23798/?
      Although it hasn't been updated for a while, you may try giving it a shot. It may also be incompatible with some (or all) functions of the follower tweaking mod that you have.
      Also, there's this one - www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/8530/?
      It is mentioned though that it was transitioned to UFO. I haven't used UFO, so try it out. :)
      There're also some threads related to the thing you're looking for on Nexus.

    Usually when an NPC learns a spell, it immediately adopts a spellcaster playstyle. Tweak Spells from AFT are spells you teach your followers that are managed by the mod and not the vanilla AI, and with cast and target conditions specified by the player. Hence you can teach a warrior a few tweak spells and they will still behave like a warrior, casting the spells when conditions are met. Also certain custom combat styles in AFT like spellswords trigger between the two modes (fighter/caster) and the outcome works well. Finally, when assigning a custom fight style, or manually leveling up a character (assigning HP/SP/MP and skills points yourself!) on a follower, they will match your level and go past their skill cap. These are huge details that make AFT very unique and are left out of this video. So AFT is the mod for you if you want Lydia to be a paladin or a dual wielding assassin. It gives the most power and control to the player out of the three mods.

    I used AFT the most and I really liked it. The only problem with it that turned into a deal breaker for me was that it is not completely compatible with Hearthfires. The mod author didn't want to get that DLC so never updated his mod for it. As a result, this mod will break some of the dialogue features from Hearthfires. Hearthfires users should keep that in mind when deciding on this follower mod.

    Love your comparisons! Very helpful and informative to decide which mods suits one best.
    But what's hardest to decide for me personally is for combat (including AI and difficulty, i.e. leveled zones, hp, skills etc.) So thats something i would love to see. I don't want to oneshot dragons or armies of draugr at lvl 2 like in vanilla skyrim, even on legendary difficulty.
    I would love to have a comparison of combat mods or even a breakdown with compatible mods to make skyrim an immersive, dangerous, rough but still manageable place from lvl 1 to 100.
    As far as i know and i searched alot in yt, there is nothing to find for that part of skyrim, which seems a bit odd, since this is most likely the part of the game with the most impact.
    If you could add something like this to your To-Do List of vids, i would totally love it.

    I used AFT on one playthrough. Serana got stuck as a vampire lord and never changed back. Up until that point, however, it worked fine.

    Skyrim UFO is not good anymore. there are issues where there is no dialogue for followers to say "follow me" because the person who made this mod hasn't updated the mod since patch 1.6

    Tried UFO for the 80% of my gameplay until it broke my followers: I can't dismiss a follower despite continuously dismissing them from my party. Now I'm doing a new gameplay with AFT, hopefully I'll encounter less problems.

    With UFO there's an issue with Hearthfires where it won't allow you to have a Steward lol

    Loved the video, very helpful, I used ufo for a long time but the maker of the mod sadly stopped updating so I moved to aft, been getting a few problems since installment though I'm not sure whether it's this mod or not cleaning the dirty edits in immersive armours mod. However, I have one question, you just started making videos but were allowed to use thumbnails, can you tell me how you did this?

    Thx for this video, i was wondering which follower mod i was gonna use (was about to install UFO, and followed a link here) and actually changed me mind and choosed EFF instead. It seems to fit my preferences better. I'm not a fan of having many followers, but i want to be able to manage the ones a bit more with their outfits and such, and especially the Relax command :P. Kudos to you me ladd. / Slaintë

    i loved EFF and UFO but they conflicted with all sorts of mods, AFT i dont like nearly as much but i have never had an issue with AFT followers ever messing up another mod
    so if you have a heavily modded game i recommend AFT

      luke V I second this. UFO for me just ruined my game to think that I have 190+ mods installed and most of the big mods I have are incompatible with it.

    What about immersive amazing follower tweaks? I know it's supposed to be a variant of AFT, but I think it may work differently...

    I've been using EFF for a while now, but I think I will be switching to UFO, as EFF is giving me problem with some companion mods (I mostly cannot get the follower to leave my service, no matter what I try).
    Guess it's time to try them out!

    Just wanted to say, I have done 3 different playthroughs, each with one of these. The best of the three is EFF, UFO is the most popular but it has so many bugs, lots of followers ignoring commands, not leaving you, etc. AFT is the simplest of the three, and works fine, and EFF is UFO but not buggy. Recommend all of them except UFO.

    I actually like eff mod simply because of collect items, the reason for my dungeon raid is to loot it, but fighting to level up while your follower collect items is the best thing because depending on the difficulties you may forget an item yea i remember going all the way back to retrieve an item i forgot in the first place 😫time consuming 😓
