Hi there, you have replace glow plugs. ford goes to power restricted mode with bad glow plugs. Plus as a preventive should clean, EGR, MAF sensor and MAP sensor. Just to check the torque you may unplug the egr and drive just check the difference and plug it back.
This could be one of the reasons why your engine leaves smoke. First try cleaning all the intake sensors and the intercooler if equiped. Also check for pressure leaks in the intake pipes.

I have a doubt about this process. I want to do a full EGR clean on Ford Figo 1.5 TDCI. Meaning EGR valve, intake manifold, and pipes that attach to the valve and intake. Does this process require undocking the whole engine from the car? Can the whole work be done from the top or should I go under the car to undo EGR pipes? Is a a process that can be done in a single day? I checked with a GoMechanic shop and they said it's a 3 day process. I am a little doubtful and am thinking if I should do it myself or take it to a mechanic. That again raises another question. Is this process on this particular car easy for just about any car mechanic? I have all these doubts because Ford plainly denied EGR service and only agreed to replace them once faulty. It costs 20k which is ridiculous when this part can be serviced. Ford Figo 1.5D EGR service is a total mystery everywhere even on TH-cam. So less videos on this topic. There is every type of EGR video on 1.4 Duratorq but not the 1.5 TDCI. Wish you could enlighten us on this topic. I am itching to know more how this is done properly in good light and tool choices.
Hi there, those egr can be dismantled and cleaned. The one i took was the valve motor and valve. The rest is called gas cooler assembly. You can dismantle that as well, some torq bolts and you need to disconnect the vacuum hoses, coolant hoses and gas pipe, it comes straight out. Its almost a day job for experts, 2 for freshers. Its a good idea to have hex and torq socket sets with you for diy jobs. 5.5 to 14mm hex drives and 5 to 45 sizes of torqs. Its done above the engine.
@@dailyhandsdiy Update: Gosh, never did I presume EGR clean would sap time and energy so much. The work commenced at 10 in the morning. What I planned to conclude in 3 hours took me an entire day. Let me give prospective DIY enthusiasts a word of advice. EGR cleaning difficulty level for FORD 1.5 TDCI is not the same as 1.4 Duratorq. This is a nightmare DIY. Do not mess with this part unless you know the implications else you'll have a badly functioning engine and a plume of black smoke depending on how miserably you fail at it. Anyway, my work went like this. Disconnected the battery, removed the battery assembly, removed attachments on the ECU, and moved it out of the way. Then, fuel filter and aluminum filter assembly were dismantled as well. Till here, it took about 1 hour. The EGR valve finally emerged in sight. I then removed the hose snaking from the intercooler to intake before separating the nozzle plunging into the intake race. Time elapsed: 2 hours Next, lifted the car on jack stands and went underneath. With extreme difficulty and merely based on feel at fingertips, more bolts were undone along with clamps, and a bracket holding all attachments to the EGR cooler assy. It was dark and using phone light for visibility I soldiered on. Then, back to the topside, I unfastened coolant channels connected to the EGR and had some of the coolant spill on the floor. The part is firmly attached to the engine block and will need some wiggling and prying. Remember, there is absolutely no head room to choose a breezy approach. You need maximum caution else to avoid tearing a dozen rubber tubes, wires, and pigtail connectors. After more wiggling, the EGR cooler body with the valve still attached was extracted from the battery side. Then, the hose running to the intake body was separated from the top. Time elapsed: 4 hours. The EGR valve was freed from its housing with T30 torx and the separated components were scraped to dislodge crusty carbon chunks with a screwdriver and then given brush treatment with petrol to loosen the soot+varnish combo. Word of advise: Remember to save every rubber gasket and not to dunk them in any cleaning solution, or else you may need replacement. Rubber can swell if exposed to certain chemicals. Gathering all parts I visited a local car wash and had the components flushed with diesel+water. The parts were then air dried using compressed air. To prevent rust EGR parts were thoroughly dried. Then the reverse of dismantling began. Gasket sealant were applied to all mating metal parts of EGR to avoid leaks. Tip: Torque metal parts adequately else you will experience leak - coolant and gas. When the last screw was installed, the time elapsed: 8 hours. The car was idled for 20 minutes and taken for a short spin. The coolant level in the reservoir slightly dropped because some of it spilled earlier. After top up, ran the car for another 15 minutes and luckily no codes showed on basic OBD 2 scanner. Will do a long test drive tomorrow as it was already dark and didn’t want to risk being stranded in case my approach led to issues. Photos taken for reference: 110+. Screws and nuts that I roughly removed: 30+. Conclusion: Full EGR cleaning on FORD Figo 1.5 TDCI is a royal pain in the rear. Ford placed this serviceable part in the most awkward place - behind the firewall, making any repairs on it a nightmare. There is a maximum risk of breaking many parts, wires, hoses that you come across during the EGR service. Will I do this again if needed? Absolutely not! Take it to a mechanic and pay them for professional service. Midway, I was lost many times and god knows where I would have ended had I not taken pics every now and then to recall what parts went where. Remember, when you clean the valve and solenoid, you only solve maybe 30% of problem, if it’s an emergency or if the choke point is a sticking valve, only cleaning the valve is ok. Period! But in most cases, your high mileage car will have soot all the way from EGR valve to the intake runner, to intake ports. Only if the entire path traversed by the gas is cleaned can you say performance is bestowed to how it was anew.
Sobeebee I think your post needs to be copied and pasted into the main body of the thread as there is no substitute for experience and it may help someone else considering a full strip down to consider just giving it a bye and only doing the egr body, brilliant write up, thoroughly felt your pain and the desire to wind the clock back not starting the job in the first place, you had me sweating at disconnecting and moving the fuel filter and cage (yeah done that job as well as priming the fuel filter) and then the anxiety kicked in at removing the battery, jacking the car up and lying underneath had my back in bits, kudos to you for convincing me to not to do it, thoroughly enjoyed your masterpiece though.
Thanks for this video. Gonna try this this weekend! Just one question. Do you only clean the egr, or also the hole where it goes in to? Just with some compressor air and a towel? Thnx
Actually the valve only needs a clean up at 30 to 40k intervals. The whole egr gas cooler and manifold has to be cleaned at 1.2 to 1.5 lakh kms. It needs a complete tear down and manual clean up.
Hi there, currently i dont have a video, but to take that out, there's a small gap between the valve body and engine body. Should put a screw driver in between and pry it out. You can tap the valve with a small size hammer to make the job easy. tap on the aluminum part not on the plastic part also tap slowly don't break the valve.
Great vid best I've seen so far and I've seen alot m8 . I've got mondeo 1.6 tdci 2011 diesel . Am going give this ago . Your instruction are visually clear and informative . Do u know were the boost control salenoid is . I've cleaned map maf oil +filters next is solenoid and egr Cheers pal
One last thing located it at back . All I did was unplug it then plugged back in due to distraction then started it up and fault code came up for first time ever

Totally out of the topic here. I have a Mazda 2011 with this PSA engine (it's actually 1.6 version) but uses same fuel filter, same engine placement, same egr valve etc.. When I shut off the engine, it shakes quite a bit (the whole car) You recon it might be the ASV valve or something else?. I also have bad torque and after 2,2k rev My car kinda vibrates (not violently but noticeable while driving)... I changed the oil recently, filters, fuel filter (had it clogged in less than a year..) cleaned maf and fap sensor...Nothing.. If you could help, Id be very much gratefull!
Hi there, the engine shake while shut off could be the ASV valve if equipped. Other reason could be a bad mount. Low torque could be bcs of bad or stuck egr, map sensor not reading correctly, turbo leaks or failure. Also a problem with injectors could also be a reason for low mid ranges. Primarily check the turbo leaks and egr.
Yup two torqs screws. Just remove it and the valve must be seated tight. There should be a gap or a small extension on the valve body so we could just fit in a minus screw driver and pry. Rotate the valve while prying also could use a mini hammer to tap it loose. Dont hammer it hard, just tapping.
Hey! Great video Have a question! What do you think of EGR delete, blanking it off by plate? Would you suggest the same? If so what's the correct way of doing it.
Hi there, if you dont mind the CEL, just unplug the egr electrical connector.or have to reprogram the ecm. Dont just block off with a blank plate. Some newer engine senses the block and adjust the injection rates but for some doesn't realise the block and continue firing just like a fully functional one and sometimes can cause piston crown burns. EGR delete is good for the engine life but can affect the environment to some extent. all depends on your side.
@@dailyhandsdiy Thanks for the reply, brother. However, i have another question now. Say, if i disconnect the connector, do the clogged the EGR gets cleaned by itself?
no wrys its a valve that directs the gas to cooler and bypass cooler. No wrys jst leave that as it is. Or There's a small steel arm connecting the vacuum actuator which must be free now, could just move that arm to the left and tie that there with something ie will make the gas cooling continuous.
Absolutely, the fault code only appears when the valve is completely stuck or sometime it does not throw even if its totaly immobilised. If the valve has a position sensor, can throw a code. Although an archive code may appear stating "maf sensor performance variation" which will not throw a CEL but can be read from scanner. If its a vacuum controlled one, chances are even less.
@@dailyhandsdiy Thanks, my car is c-max 1.6 tdci 115 hp 2013 180000 km,. My type EGR is the same as this 1.5. My car smokes a little for a few seconds starting cold and idling fine in the start, but later it gets a little rough and it have a little taping noise, most around 1500-2500 rpm. I have tested the injectors, My car is doing only around 15 km pr. liter. How many km has this Ford 1.5 done? thanks again.👍👍
Oh this egr works on the resistance feedback, doesn't show the code if its intermittently sticking and if fully stuck gives a check engine light. I guess the egr in your car is not closing properly which will surely give smoke on startup and goes away after some time. So does the glow plugs. Its a good idea to clean it as its already 180k kms and those egr get stuck easily around 30 to 40k kms gap. This car has 130k on odo and gives around 16 to 17 average for a litre. Drives 60% on city with 100% AC on.
Sir my aspire 2016 diesel giving very heavy black smoke from exhaust and mileage also dropped in ac it is giving 10 and non AC 14 maximum Pls help this could be egr problem or any thing else
If the vehicle was driven with care and maintained well i dont think 200k is an issue, but there will be intermittent repairs for sure. If you are looking for a secondary car to use rough no issues i guess.
@@dailyhandsdiy thanks for replying! Do you think I will have less problems buying the normally aspirated petrol 1.6 TI VCT with 200.000 km? I mean, there are no so many filters and sensors to go wrong. For some reason the Focus with the 1.6 TI VCT is way more expensive. But also I know this 1.5 TDCI is one of the most reliable diesel engines out there.
I will surely go with tdci because as you said its much more reliable n way less complexity. speaking of these two engine. tdci has an egr n petrol has vvt, both comes with equal sensors, filters and much more. only difference is the hp pump and the turbo. also the injection on petrol has an injectr spark plug, step up coil in diesel just an injector. So there's nothing like comparing diesel engines n petrol engines nowadays both comes almost equal complex.
Plus one more reason to choose diesel, the engine will be run less compared to high revving petrol engine ( engine revolution wise) so less worn bearings and rings. note, if the car is well maintained.
@@dailyhandsdiy thank you again. At the beginning, I was looking for a car with the old 1.9 TDI but after watching many reviews I learned that the 1.4, 1.5,1.6 and 2.0 HDI/TDCI are way more reliable and still used in new cars.
pls make a video on how to clean the throttle body of the aspire diesel, i think its an electronic throttle body. also how does the throttle work, i know its drive by wire tech. regards
hey brother, its not a throttle body, its diesel shut off valve. It makes the engine off smoothly without much vibrations and also helps to eliminate diesel runaway issue. There is no need to clean that because it stays wide open if the engine is running and close only at the time of engine shut down.
In petrol cars the acceleration is control by throttle body, where there's a small valve that opens and closes controlling the air inhaled. So this valve operate continuously responding to accelerator. In diesel cars we do not need this valve as the power is controlled by rate of fuel injected. ie uncontrolled air flow. In diesel cars when they turn off used to shake heavily which is a disturbace to ppl and engine mounts as well. So they introduces a shut off valve to create a vaccum in engine to make the engine stop smoother. Also it reduce the chances of runaway problem s well. Here the valve is motorised but is not continuous. If there's no power valve is hold open by the spring action. Its will be hold in open position continuously. And when we turn the engine off, it shuts close for 5 to 8 secs. so no air goes in, creating a vaccum inside intake manufold. This vaccum make an equilibrium condition to piston which will have no compression or expansion. so engine turns off silently and smoothly.
Bro i tried removing my ford ecosport (2014 model titanimum+ tdci) EGR ,followed your steps but no matter what i do the EGR wont move a bit i tried like a good 45 minutes and left it..(tried minus ,sprayed a bit of wurth carb/injector cleaner) ..can you suggest some other ways to remove it? Or shall i take help of a mechanic?
hi there, soot may have filled btwn the gaps. You shouldn't use the cleaner, its wd 40 or any other penitrant. there's a small gap betwn the valve n housing on right side btwn the fastners. stick a minus there n pry. also wiggle the valve a bit so it come loose.
Hi, I did this service today. Yes, you need to hit it with penetrant to make things easier, The tightness is because the valve and the valve slot has such minimal clearance. It only moves one way - up or down. You cannot wiggle in any case. Like OP said, a small gap exists between EGR valve and the housing on which it is mated. Pry only there. Do not pry under plastic or you risk damaging the EGR solenoid. Pry as long as you can and then use twist motion to remove the EGR valve+ solenoid from its original slot. If you have tried all this and still have no luck, my most precious advise is this - Leave it to experts. I know that feeling - so close to completing a goal but have no other way than retreating. Every DIY person hates that. In case of EGR, it's best to swallow the pride and beat retreat . Should you break this part, you are looking at some hefty bill. For some owners especially well maintained cars and low mileage cars, this part comes off without struggle, but to others it's a nightmare. So EGR service isn't black and white to all.
There's a small gap between the housing and valve just aside of one of the screw hole. Put a screw driver in and pry. Wiggle a little at the same time..need patience but eventually it comes off
@@dailyhandsdiy Would it also cause smoke in the rear come out /excessive? Would replacing a MAF sensor temperately fix it - ive done this stopped limp mode and engine management lights for around 3/4 weeks?
Actually its a good idea to scan the ecm to get the fault code. even a bad maf sensor can also cause the check engine light to turn on. If the actual problem is with the egr, just replacing the maf won't do any good. And yes if egr is not functioning properly, there will be excessive smoke from exhaust.
And yup one more thing, a stuck open egr can also trigger a fault code stating low maf air flow performance. Dont mistake maf with egr. First thing to do, clean egr and check its perfrmnce second clean maf and map sensors. This will get you right on the track. I do have a video on cleaning maf n map in my videos.

@@dailyhandsdiy also in service center they said the steering rack is weak and has to be changed , but there were no oil leak and they said it would cost 38k for new rack , is there any chance to repair it
Bro in 1.5 tdci engine power could be upgraded by tuning and programming the ecm. Because the boost pressure is controlled by ecm through vaccum actuator. Its not advised to tune the factory fit parameters as it can cause troubles to turbo and injectors and cause engine premature failures. About the AC did you mean it works but when suddenly stops and restarts the car it wont?
As of petrol, diesel engine doesn't have a throttle body but it has a engine shut off valve thats exact same design of throttle body. In 1.5 its on the left front side of engine. The pipe from intercooler goes to the valve.
@@dailyhandsdiy Right, the 1.6 has it there, even the 1.4 has a TTB, but I just can't find it on the 1.5, in your EcoSport video same as mine, the pipe directly goes down to the intake manifold near the EGR valve, is it down there somewhere?
@@dailyhandsdiy No mate, all the newer 1.5 engines I see irrespective of the variant, model or trim, the engine is almost the same, apart from the fuel filter cover and what not. But I might be wrong, see, the accelerator pedal should operate something to let in air right? Which is basically electronic pedal unit. That's where I am confused now, if the accelerator pedal is pressed, it should operate some valve to allow metered air other than the EGR which is a separate unit. Am I missing something?
Yup, its actually told wrong, unline petrol diesel doesn't need a meterd or controlled flow of air into the engine. when you press the accelerator, its the injector that opens wide to allow the fuel, in petrol, air is the one controlled but in diesel, fuel is the one controlled. Diesel engine nowadays are provided with shut of valve to fecilitate smooth shut down, avoid diesel runaway nd some makes program to support egr as well.

My car ford ecosport issues with low power it show when i on ac or also without ac and frist gear pickup is very low mean it stop many time power of engine is lose what the problem with it
Carbon soot might have gone btwn the valve n housing. You could find a small gap below the second bolt... to pri the valve. take a small minus stick that into the gap n pri it. Also wiggle and rotate both clock n anti clock. It will come out.
There's a small gap in between the the housing... have to put a screw drive in and pry, at the same time rotate the valve clock wise n anti clock wise...it wont turn much jst an inch turn will be there.
Most easy way is to disconnect the electrical connetor. But this will trigger a check engine light. The 2nd way is to remove the 4 screws holding the egr motor from the valve, keep the motor somewhere near(hang it) keep the electrical connector on. So the valve remains closed and the motor working. this won't throw a check engine light. Third optn is to block of the pipe going from egr to manifold. 1st one is more safe for the engine under the cost of cel.
@@dailyhandsdiy so if i disconnect it, can i turn off the check engine light permanent with software? The reason i want to do this is because i have very bad throtle response on low rpm. Tnx for response anyway

My ecosport 1.5 tdci makes sucking sound 2 to 3 times when the engine is turned off. What may be the reason. Is it normal or any problem with Is egr or engine Shut off valve?
Sure bro will do when i get hands on... For reference i use suction cleaning which the device is not with ppl. so you can use turbos pressure to clean. Open the inlet and outlet hose from inter cooler. fill in a liter of petrol through inlet. connect the inlet pipe to turbo side. put a collection pan on the intercooler outlet pipe which is disconnected. Start the car and rev to 1200 rpm and wait to push all the fluids out to pan. After 30 to 45 secs increase rev to 2000 rpm to about 15 secs. drain the pan. Again repeat the steps from start. This will clean the intercooler enough. Repeat the procedure 2 or 3 times.

Should I clean the egr ? It’s 39k odo and I can see mild smoke while reviving . Power n mileage is still good no issues
40k is actually a good time to clean egr
Thanks for this video. Gonna try this this weekend! Just one question. Do you only clean the egr, or also the hole where it goes in to? Just with some compressor air and a towel? Thnx
Actually the valve only needs a clean up at 30 to 40k intervals. The whole egr gas cooler and manifold has to be cleaned at 1.2 to 1.5 lakh kms. It needs a complete tear down and manual clean up.
my ecosport 2020 diesel is driven 60390kms as of now. So is there any need for cleaning?

Hi daily hands how to clean egr not dismantling ligui moly Diesel intake decarb cleaner
Do not use any cleaners.it can mess up the things ..you need proper dismantle and clean up.
Hi, mine is 1.5 tdci 2015 model. The EGR is stuck after removing the two screws. How did you take it out? Can you upload the videos?
Hi there, currently i dont have a video, but to take that out, there's a small gap between the valve body and engine body. Should put a screw driver in between and pry it out. You can tap the valve with a small size hammer to make the job easy. tap on the aluminum part not on the plastic part also tap slowly don't break the valve.

Cheers pal
I guess it should be beside the vacuum pump or just behind bottom left side(timing side).
One last thing located it at back . All I did was unplug it then plugged back in due to distraction then started it up and fault code came up for first time ever
It should go off if the codes are cleared using an OBD scanner
Me again sorry bud . So hard to get egr out exactly same one u got there . Was considering blanking but bought new one . Still have not got old one off . With a new one would I need to reprogram what's your opinion cheers my friend . There very little about the mk4 mondeo 1.6 any were on net
Will check out one by one and rule out.Tnx man!
Any time mate
@@dailyhandsdiy any tip to pull the egr? its seald solid. there are only 2 screws right?
Yup two torqs screws. Just remove it and the valve must be seated tight. There should be a gap or a small extension on the valve body so we could just fit in a minus screw driver and pry. Rotate the valve while prying also could use a mini hammer to tap it loose. Dont hammer it hard, just tapping.
Hey! Great video
Have a question!
@@uufvijaykumarhey bro, did you end up doing the EGR delete?
@@corvaliskhan1243 nah brother, ended up cleaning it
What is the fuction of the vacuum piece black under de egr??? i broke it trying to getting out de egr 😓
no wrys its a valve that directs the gas to cooler and bypass cooler. No wrys jst leave that as it is. Or There's a small steel arm connecting the vacuum actuator which must be free now, could just move that arm to the left and tie that there with something ie will make the gas cooling continuous.
This video helped a lot. Thank you :')
Always welcome bro...
Can you do a full replacement on the EGR and cooler thanks

Very helpful. Please keep making videos like this. You've earned a new subscriber.
Thnks mate. will keep on updating.
Nice video. Do you know if the valve can be sticking, without any faulty codes?
Sir my aspire 2016 diesel giving very heavy black smoke from exhaust and mileage also dropped in ac it is giving 10 and non AC 14 maximum

Hi, yes egr does affect gas mileage and cause black smoke. Clean egr valve, map sensor and maf sensor all together.
I would buy a Ford Focus 2017 with the 1.5 TDCI 80 kw with 200.000 km. Do you recommend buying it with such a mileage on it?
Very nice video, but I tried to remove it and it was stuck so hard can't remove it, applied all sorts of spray but still it won't come out.
There's a small gap btwn the bolts, just stick a screw driver and pry...
pls make a video on how to clean the throttle body of the aspire diesel, i think its an electronic throttle body.
also how does the throttle work, i know its drive by wire tech.
regards
hey brother, its not a throttle body, its diesel shut off valve. It makes the engine off smoothly without much vibrations and also helps to eliminate diesel runaway issue. There is no need to clean that because it stays wide open if the engine is running and close only at the time of engine shut down.
@@dailyhandsdiy ok , but pls explain us how the throttle works😊

@@dailyhandsdiy sure I will give a try again.. Thanks a lot for your help :)
Sure bro any time 👌
Hi, I did this service today.
Per eliminarla del tutto questa valvola egr cosa bisogna fare?
Hi, could do a software delete. And forget about it.
Applied my full body power, applied WD-40 and done everything possible in it. Still not able to open, any suggestions for it😅
Only 60k driven.
There's a small gap between the housing and valve just aside of one of the screw hole. Put a screw driver in and pry. Wiggle a little at the same time..need patience but eventually it comes off
would this cause engine service light do u know? / engine management light?
Yup if its completely blocked or stuck, service light lits up.
@@dailyhandsdiy Thank you very much, outstanding channel! Got an issue with my ford focus 2016 1.5tdci as you can tel...

Fiesta 1.5 actually comes with an electronic power steering. There no way for a leak. Do you hear any clucking or difficulty in steering?

It does have a steel gasket but can be simply reused.
Mate, can you let me know the location of the throttle body for the 1.5 TDCi?
As of petrol, diesel engine doesn't have a throttle body but it has a engine shut off valve thats exact same design of throttle body. In 1.5 its on the left front side of engine. The pipe from intercooler goes to the valve.
@@dailyhandsdiy Right, the 1.6 has it there, even the 1.4 has a TTB, but I just can't find it on the 1.5, in your EcoSport video same as mine, the pipe directly goes down to the intake manifold near the EGR valve, is it down there somewhere?
nop, which varient do you use? base varients did not come with the device.

Carbon soot might have gone btwn the valve n housing. You could find a small gap below the second bolt... to pri the valve. take a small minus stick that into the gap n pri it. Also wiggle and rotate both clock n anti clock. It will come out.
I have the same problem, how is it possible to get out? I tried with warm and cold engine, with wd40, cooler spray, brake cleaning...

How to blank it?
You can surely do the disconnection and program to avoid check engine light to pop up. But should be a professional to code the softwre or you could end up with over heating engine. Or just disable the check engine light on dashboard.
