  • Does a tough bite have you digging through your tackle box? Whether bass fishing from the bank or boat, the Neko rig is tough to beat if getting bites is your top goal. Nick Smith (wired2.fish/In...) and Brandon Coulter discuss the importance of experimentation when buddy fishing, with Nick demonstrating the Neko rig's ability to mop up behind other anglers or when bass are in a funk.

    • Savage Gear Black Ops Spinning Rod, 7' 1" Med Power: wired2.fish/Bla...
    • Abu Garcia REVO X 30 Spinning Reel: wired2.fish/REV...
    The Neko rig is basically a wacky-rigged worm with a nail weight inserted into one end. This creates a presentation that quickly sinks nose-down and fishes vertically across the bottom. Smith delves into the basics of rigging the Neko rig and where and how to fish it. He details the simple tackle selection ranging from his favorite worm, terminal tackle, and what he looks for in a spinning rod setup for casting and fishing the bait.

    I started using the Neko rig this year. I gotta say it’s my new favorite bed fishing lure. I love it when the bite gets tough. Super cool technique. Awesome video!

    Man I love a Neko. I always have one rigged. The highland reservoirs I fish a straight wacky is a no go any other time than the spring really. So this is the deal.

    1 if my main mlm lures is the jackall flick and neko wormsmi use 3/0,& 4/0 octppus hooks with no weight
    get bit on the drop 75% ..another great wirm wacky is the zoom centipede.but now they only make 4 colors which is really dumb. but its way it is .im surprised its not made by many other lure companies as it catches weightless. Texas ,shakey ,wacky.and u can chop off 1.5 in and use it on a ned rig.

    Using braid??? I want to learn how to fish that way... great great informative video... ur awesome

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Arturo. Nick was using straight 8-pound fluorocarbon in this video but generally speaking, most anglers use a 8- to 15lb braided mainline to a fluorocarbon leader (usually 8lb). If you're interested in learning more, there are several more Neko rigging videos in our "Neko rig" playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLqCVQ-qVE7YeMn4r228edtOMZUfzzXjp4.html

      When I’m dragging the bottom yes, when I’m shaking it just above the grass I keep it sideways

    What size of nail weights do you use when fishing the neko rig and at what depths?

    • @stoneysdead689
      @stoneysdead689 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not that picky- whatever is enough to get you on bottom in a reasonable amount of time and allow you to work the bait correctly. It's affected by line weight, what worm you use, what depth and how much current you have- so no one can really tell you specific weights but- if you ned rig and you know what weight ned head you generally use- the same neko weight should work well in that area or areas like it.

    Could you neko rig a zoom lizard?

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. That's the beauty of the rig -- you can experiment with pretty much any plastic. The profile and seductive, undulating appendages of the right lizard could be an awesome trigger. Here's a video we did on Neko rigging crawfish plastics... something that's proven very effective for us. th-cam.com/video/7kSwrGJbjxY/w-d-xo.html
