expert with evrything else but ACTUALLY trying it. so yes hes an expert because he studies many many years of this. But i do get what you mean and it does sound funny haha.
I've installed car electronics for 15 years. And some of this stuff can be done. As far as the steering and brakes go, they can only be controlled remotely if your car is equipped with electronic steering assist, and/or automatic braking system. But as far as the other functions such as start/stop the engine, lock/unlock doors, lights on/off, etc. Most cars since 1995 have been equipped with an ECU (engine control unit) and a BCM (Body Control Module) which are central brain units that control the commands of each switch or button in your vehicle. Easily plugging a device into the obd II connector and having the right software, it is possible to remotely take over someone's car without them ever suspecting anything.
+imedus ZD Don't bother with the wires, just jam a screwdriver into the column next to the signal light switch. Pry the plastic away, and push in the lever.

Imagine you're sitting in your self driving car and suddenly some hacker kidnap you by locking the doors and windows and telling the car to drive to them.
10:00 "If I just want to take you out, it's much easier to shoot you". Okay, but then the whole entire world knows that you were assassinated. If someone hacked your car, no one would suspect anything, they would just think you lost control of your car under natural conditions.
at 4:20 you would require internal access to the car, this whole thing is overhyped. As usual Motherboard overhypes these things and blows them out of proportion.
exactly. "the vehicle shown is modified with third-party hardware for demo purposes" well how else would they even connect to a car wirelessly if they dont install a custom hardware on it? are they counting that there are retarded car manufacturers so using this add on motherboard they will provide their already prepared "miracle" hardware and software that can "protect" a car from being hacked for a silly price? first of all i am not familiar with the recent car systems but why would a car need a cellular network installed in it in the first place? a normal car system have computer that reads the status of the sensors installed and controls the system accordingly, there is nothing that you can connect to directly on that computer except on the jack that is installed for that purpose. a specialized car auto mechanic can do all this things shown on the video but not remotely without connecting a cable to the car. 7:54 obviously a cable going from the laptop to the car... "GSM networks, everything is cellular nowadays" WTF, why would a car have GSM installed in it? so now what? are they hoping to persuade the car manufacturers to buy the lame McAfee antivirus and security for their cars? the security software that cant even deal with simple PC viruses and hacks? Ubisoft sponsors so big campaign to promote their game that had the release date prolonged for so long, there is not a single recent video on TH-cam that doesnt talk about it, i bet it will be rubbish and a big failure. the same campaign they launched for assassins creed and it was a failure too.
Well my car has a 3g connection, it is not for me to use, but for the car to send status to manufacturer website of the car, and that certainly could be hacked. It also allows me to remote start my car, unlock the doors lock the doors and locate the car. But I canceled the service and removed the antenna since I have a manual car, the remote start does not work and it isn't worth $100 a year to be able to unlock my car from my phone. But even if it was hacked and they turned off my car, I can still steer and brake, so there would be no point. And the part where they say that they can blow the engine up, it requires a restart to flash the ecu, and most cars the map file that the ecu access to control the engine cannot be manipulated because it is encrypted. And even then a device would have to be installed on the OBD port allowing remote access, since programming is physically separated from anything but the ecu and the OBD2 port.
I know, right? Nobody seems to know what "hacking" means these days. They think using simple commands already linked to a network for testing purposes is hacking. It would take so much fucking time to breech a car's security that you know nothing about.
***** There is potential to override the breaking and steering systems. New ESP equipped cars have ECU control over breaks in each wheel separately. One of my cars has an electric power steering that is also connected to the ECU. There is no full disconnect between the mechanical systems and the things that control them, but it would be possible to lock one wheel to alter the path of the car, or make the car accelerate. From my knowledge, it's not possible to control the steering directly, but again, the pump might be switched off. My opinion is that remotely steering the car is BS, but having control over those systems might make the car accelerate and crash. The whole thing is not new. Delphi introduced an OBDII remote controller for the car, that can actually do a lot of stuff. Those guys are not pioneers, the whole thing is hyped to the max.

This video was setup as more of a scare tactic then anything. 1. You must be physically connected to the ECM or CAN buss before you can do any of this. 2. Exactly how are they getting GSM connectivity to an old honda. Are you paying for cellular service for each device you install in a car?
You're right. This method requires physical access to one of the modules inside the car. As far as I know, there isn't wireless access to the CAN bus directly. In this example the "hacker" had installed a custom gsm module. He could as easily used a simple elm327 with Bluetooth and get the same result. Still, you need access to the inside of the car.
@@sheeshulex elm327 gives you Bluetooth access to the CAN bus for as little as $10. You need physical access to the OBD port inside the car though. In theory you could modify the elm327 and tap into other CAN bus modules also.
In new vehicles, yes, but its still rare. Its becoming more common and I personally don't like it. I want an emergency brake that is manual, no electronics what-so-ever.
neil78b my dad has v70 and the brakes are so awesome when u brake to hard the hazards come on yea I know what u mean though but when do u use a hand brake to do an emergency stop
So carbureted muscle cars with breaker-point ignitions and a complete lack of electronic anything enjoy an immunity to such threats... And they still run after over 40 years. Will there be old car nuts restoring today's PCs on wheels in 2050? I hope so !
in 2050, those types of cars won't be allowed on the road. Police will be able to scan any car they see to find out if it's insured, if it's registered, who the owner is, how many miles it has on it, how much gas is in the tank, previous repairs, what parts work, what parts don't work. If you're driving a car without the ability to be scanned for status remotely, you will be pulled over and detained. Trust me, this shit is coming.
Pretty straight forward stuff, you could use this backwards, you can make your car send you data about itself at certain intervals. Use it for data analytics, make your car talk to you, remind it to remind you to take it to service - etc.
Right. Why does everyone else think so negative? Why are they trying to do bad things. I was thinking de same thing what you said. To do something with purpose& this is about how people hack your car not about how to protect yourself from car hackers.
anything is possible, anything, not saying that it was hacked but it seems when people can not find a reason why this would be done they conclude it was not a hack. just because you have no idea is no reason to rule it out. also the fact that they were pro drivers who raced gave some the idea they were out driving way to fast. well i know because i have spent sum serious time with cart, f1 & irl drivers that off the track they really do not behave like that on a street. i could be totally wrong this time & i knew nobody involved personally but knowing there racing background i am more inclined to think they were well in control & at safe speeds. racers spend a good deal of time at the track & it's just not the same on a public street so to a racer driving really fast off a track is not a thrill. just my 2 cents & i could be totally wrong but i don't think so
Hayden Davidson fuck Paul walker, he was nothing but a celebrity. Hastings'reporting led to the resignation of govt officials. He was about to break a big story before his Mercedes spontaneously combusted at high speeds.
They installed a unit that controls the computer of the car, you need physical access to do that, so it's not like it's a magical hack that is wireless, it requires alot of work.
As you can see, the problem is not self driving cars alone. Every remotely modern car relies heavily on electronics. The recent hack of a Jeep didn't even require special hardware to be installed.
but what are the chances of someone hacking you to kill you if someone wanted to kill you that bad they would just shoot you or poison your food or some shit like that
buying an older car without a canbus/ good luck with that, buying a car and have a "firewall" and antitamper on the canbus.. good luck with that. You know computers right? I asume you are using a computer regularly, Apple, Windows or Linux, doesnt matter, wichever OS, you need protection on it. same goes for your car, old or new, we gonna need protection. And the problem you have with older cars, emissions, local goverments or even national goverments are gonna push everyone towards cleaner, saver cars... so whatever you wanna do, somehow someday you be driving a vehicle, with a computer, and some kind of communications bus in it, that might expose some kind of wireless coms... and hackers can hack it, someone could left a bug in, or somehow a worm, will attack that computer.... Just get to understand these risks, buy whatever car you want, just make sure you undersdtand its basic functions and securtity and update if nececairy. maybe hack the canbus yourself, be there, when it happens, track it, log it. build protections or even beat the hacker at his own game ;). we dont want to drive to work with a horse and carriage anymore now do we? check hackaday.com for awesome hacks, and maybe tricks for protecting yourself.
what they are not saying is that additional hardware need to be installed on the car so the hacker needs to open your car .. pop the hood , install hardware in the engine connect it to the ECU .. then leave the car this could take a long time,, another thing is once you remove the hardware the hacker can no longer access your car.
4:12 "you can just walk by and implant the device." Is it really that easy to just walk by any locked car and attach the physical hardware to the cars computer? For some reason I feel like it can't be all that easy without access to the inside of the car or engine bay.
+Hyedrojin Wan I would agree with you. with how they place the diagnostic ports even in hard to get to areas even with the keys, I doubt that leaching on to this cars internal network is something that one can just walk by and do that with out keys or making people suspicions. Even then it's really only the expensive cars that are drive by wire, the I've had to move cars that aren't not that old ('90-'95), and the hand brake, regular brakes and steering still work, though takes more effort to get them to respond with with the power off but I can still get them to. And no power=no computer so there was a mechanical link there. Power assisted but still manual control.
+Hyedrojin Wan Engine bay? Lmfao, electrically the engine bay offers no more accessibility than the outside of the car, outside of cutting headlight wires. ECU control is located in the dashboard, close to the driver. Cloud-based systems though, will always be vulnerable to remote penetrations.
+Hyedrojin Wan Here's the problem, battery has to ground, usually on the frame. Metal frame on metal body is conductive. With the right materials, you could likely install it right to the body, although this device seems clunky and noticeable. I wouldn't be surprised if within the next 10 years this becomes a serious issue.
+bellajaid even so hooking a device only to the ground of another device isn't going to do much unless it can interfere with the ground and that's not possible from the outside.
Another thing that I was doubtful of (in addition to my previous comment that you can NOT remotely hack into the car unless someone first broke into the car and added their own physical receiver device) was that a hacker can NOT completely disable the brakes entirely to prevent you from being able to stop. Most cars have HYDRAULIC brakes with a physical connection between the brake pedal and the brakes. When you push on the brake pedal, it pushes on a master cylinder piston that pushes fluid into the brake caliper which squeezes the brake to make the wheel stop. There's nothing computer or electronic about that to be avble to prevent it from happening. Hack into and automatically APPLY the brake (thru stability control or parking brake)? Sure. Disable to booster? Probably. But completely stop the brakes from working? No, it's a bunch of metal and rubber pieces pushing fluid around, nothing you can do to stop that electronically.
Avast is the most secure AV i have ever seen. I have made many malwares , and also tried to do many attacks online on my own pc where Avast is installed up to now all were detected by Avast. Also if your computer receives any suspicious file (Trojan,Malware, Backdoor) within the PDF , MP3 or JPEG , XML file it blindly scans then sends it to the database of Avast for searching and within 60 minutes AVAST is responding back by telling you whether the file contains (reverse engineering) or any harmful content. Sorry for my English PEACE
Yeah this video is a great exaggeration for cars in the 2000. I know for a fact my handbrakes is done with a manual system. these hackers just are really desperate and not being specific..
yeah and my car cant start itself. You need to install remote start for that (if you turn your key and let it go if it keeps chugging til it starts it can start itself)
Developing hardware for CAN communication with a car isn't focused on stealing a car. You'd have to sniff or know what messages do what, then create those messages to do something on the car. About the easiest thing to do is turn something off. Second is unlocking doors and starting up. Spoofing/overriding continuous messages would be a bit more difficult. Unintended acceleration or braking would require temporary disabling of the controller sending those signals and simultaneously sending those messages continuously to make it happen. One-line messages like unlocking doors and turning the car on/off is about the extent of this. Remote tracking would require an extra GPS unit hooked up to the arduino and that information sent over GPRS (unless, there is GPS information created by the car and communicated over can). There is absolutely no way someone can walk by your car and 'hack' it to unlock with what is shown in this video. It would take access to a can port (OBD II port), hardware, a power source (OBD port?), and a knowledge of the CAN messages of the specific car.
No this is not why you drive a 72 blazer, are you seriously pretending like you knew about cars being hacked? Like you just decided to buy a old piece of shit SUV because you didn't want to get hacked while driving, please stfu.
Spencer Johnson Fuck you guys, older vehicles are simplistic compared to modern vehicles. You don't have to worry about people deciding to hack you and possibly kill you. It's because of you ignorant fucks who think that everything needs to be more sophisticated and complex than what they should be, that is making this world a scary place to live. How do you even know if he is a "poor piece of shit"? It is his choice to drive whatever the fuck he wants.
Tharee MaahthePuddi who ever said I knew this would happen? It is common sense; if something is more complicated and has computers controlling it, it can be hacked. You don't tell me to stfu. If you don't mind possibly having your vehicle hacked l, fine by me. Just it is damn near impossible to "hack" an older vehicle.
mickymike1000 No you stupid bitch, you clearly said you got the 72 blazer because it can't be hacked, and I responded by calling you out, because obviously did not know shit about the idea of cars being hacked.
You forgetting they have fuel pumps? Ignition? Alternators? Any old car can be hacked, and depending on power options it can all be wired to operate remotely. Even a 1914 Ford Model T can be remotely turned off with an addition of a remotely activated vacuum solenoid.
Andrey Studinets fuel pump mechanical by crankshaft, ignition= mechanical distributor driven by crankshaft. Well yes. But i dont think pc nerd will understand 30+years old wiring + a lot of wiring have been redone by owner or shop so its not orginal.
***** Cars with mechanical fuel pump are equipped with various fuel shut off safetys, some electronic some not. Mechanical distributor is there to determine the moment of ignition, power is supplied from the battery through a fuse for the spark.
Andrey Studinets with various fuel shut off safetys, ( thats newer cars, i meant older older ones. pure mechanics - > you press pedal carb opens rpm`s clime more fule gets pumped, taked foot of pedal carb closes rpm`s dropt minimal fuel gets in) Not newver where there are safety. Well battery only place actually. but when you cut off battery than car dies and if you leave in gear you can safely pul over breaking with geears + engine.
I agree. The key sentence was where the geek said "we changed a few things to make it gsm" or words to that effect. However, Apple were forced by US authorities to give access to its api. Those same authorities could apply the same pressure to auto manufacturers, say, ones receiving bail outs, making access to the vehicle WWAAYY more convenient,

This is absolute horse shit, engine computers aren't connected to the Internet in any way. Some are, but only if you have on star or some other anti theft that ALREADY HAS these features. An ecu is running on a closed circuit, how on earth are you gonna "hack" into it? Only way is through the actual plug that auto shops use to run diagnostics.
enrique3402 I believe they said that you must plant some device to get access to the car network, so even if they claimed that it's connected to the internet it doesn't matter, right?
enrique3402 They said you need a 3rd party device installed to your car first. If someone wanted to take out someone else, they could install it and then disable the brakes at a certain time. It's basically like a car bomb except nearly impossible to detect.
Muhammad Ilham Unless you have onstar, that's a closed circuit. Can't hack it. And you definitely can't control the steering, or the brakes. They all run independent. This stuff is pure science fiction. And about that "third party device," It's pointless. You'd have to break into the car, crack open the ecu's case, solder the thing on, pray it still gets reception from wherever you are through all that heat insulation and shock absorbing jelly, and in the end why not just plant a bomb if you're really trying to kill someone that badly? jeez, all the effort.

The 7th gen Honda Accord (2003 - 2007) as featured in the beginning of the video, cannot be hacked remotely, because it's a real low tech car. The highest tech you'll find in the car is a 6-disk CD changer in the dash. I have one I have driven for over 11 years. It does not even have bluetooth. It can only be hacked when OBDII port is accessed or you dig out the ECU under the front center console.
LOL they make is seem like this applys to all cars. only modern cars can be hacked . and only electrical parts can be hacked with . even the car they were using couldnt be hacked that easy they had to get aftermarket cpu's

0:30 "The brakes are dead" Nope, the pedal has a mechanical connection to the hydraulic master cylinder and the hydraulic system actuates the brakes. At most he has lost ABS and power brake boost (only assists the driver in brake application)
So assuming the car is throttle by cable istead of drive by wire. Then the only way it can manipulate the car is through sensor driven components? Like o2 and lambda egt and fuel pump etc?
Does this apply to older cars like the a Nissan Silvia S15. That car only has a radio and isnt really computerised. Or even something like a 1999 Nissan Micra for those who aren't familiar with cars
wait a second ... how can he manipulate the signal ? Does CANBUS have wireless adapter built in it ? as i know from computer engineering all devices do have MAC Adress is it the same for cars ?
c if you could hack my nissan micra 1.0 litre! with no power steering, no ABS, no on board computer! no spare tyre and finally to top it off one of the back sit is missing, best of luck.
since car intern communication is not fully standardized you have to analyze it ( im not a specialist for canbus but ive worked with it briefly ). so you'd first get that information which will be hard since this is usually company secret and then you would have to know the cars systems well enough to get access to read/write on the canbus to do the things he did. Still this is a lot of work where you need highly qualified people and if the car manufacturers up their security it should be even more difficult than it is now. (i just hate that they got macafee in this video since their software is appaling)
***** The FAA was controlling all commercial aircraft long before 911. It used to be called fly by wire in the 80's-90's. Pilots only land and take off generally. When evasive maneuvers are needed pilots will then take control, but most of the flight is controlled by the FAA and has been for over 20 years.
Thank you for sharing this vital information...but do u not have suggestions for the public on how to keep ourselves safe? Besides suggesting we buy no cars and go back to only using bikes is there any steps we can take to prevent this.?

@motherboard How about Semi Trucks? There are so many computers on semi trucks. Could you make the vehicle read that it needs maintenance anytime that you want? It seems like my truck always has problems that are dealing with the electronics. My radio cut on by itself and the volume turned all the way up on its own. Sometimes the lights cut on by themselves. I’ve been in the shop so much over the past year more than over the previous 3 years.

I don't have to... just hack the modern car going the opposite way towards u, and floor it. With no airbags, no proper crash safety in that -56, ur toast. Never forget that your never safe just because u think you avoid this issue.
Im a big classic car man myself, but a classic cars "toughness" is the reason you're more likely to die. No crumple zones, no airbags, only lap belts... thats not including the speculative stuff like the physics of the lack of bolstering, b pillar strength, etc. I will agree to this though, if you get in a small fender bender - you aren't out of THOUSANDS and are more likely to drive away. But in the hypothetical above: The person in the runaway car has a better chance of survival.
He comunicate with GSM module to your car? Ok, simple: RX and TX sending and recieving packets over SIM900 gsm module using Arduino true the GPRS and MQTT server with the computer serial monitor, the module inside the car is also hooked up wit gsm module true the arduino wich is connected to adapter (RX-TX)wired to the OBD connector to your car. The only you can hack here is the way to find the parameters for the specific car and study how to interact with them wich can be done by experiments and practice with exact model of car you need to control!

I absolutely love this series, because anyone who knows anything about cars knows most if not all of this is complete bullshit. Essentially these guys are just going into the on board diagnostics and telling the car to run commands, like literally EVERY car dealership can do. This isn't a reflection on cars and how "easy" it is to "hack" them, but a disgusting reflection on how much average people actually know about their car. You'd think sitting in a 2 ton hunk of aluminum moving at a high rate of speed you'd want to at least have a basic level of understanding as to how it all works.
That is what hacking is... www.tomsguide.com/us/obdii-onboard-car-diagnostics-hack,review-1545.html But yeah it exaggerates a lot, steering and handbrake are mechanical so telling it to turn left isn't a thing.
bottle2lip Yeah clearly something had to be added to make this possible, I think they mentioned it at some point. Overall this was a interesting topic poorly covered in nothing more than superficial detail.
David Li Nah mate. The chip they installed is telling the canbus that it's part of the car. If we suppose that it's actually not a chip in the car, but entirely cellular there's no way to confirm that either, because the different parts of the car (brake engine etc) communicate via the same protocol. There's no way for the car to tell the difference. P.S. Excuse my grammar, I'm a bit tipsy.
Wankel Motor I do not think that you need to get into car to add this. You can connect from under-neath. I worked for an agency that made tracking devices for cars to track where you go. Courts ruled that if the tracking device uses the electricity of the car (you wire it to car's electrical system) it's not illegal. If it battery powered it is illegal. I believe that this silly law is so the government and car maker can know that the device is on the car. Battery powered will make it harder for government and maker to discover.
d smith I've never come across the CAN BUS when working outside of a vehicle. Most cars store their engine computer inside the passenger compartment, the wire harness that connects to it branches out to hundreds of sensors but without access to the computer directly I don't see how you could possibly gain access without breaking in.
what if you put one of those chips in your own car so no one else can put one of there's on or if they do then you can still control your car from your computer. would that help matters?
It should be noted from the start that you need to bug the shit outta the car to get this to work, not unlike good ol' analog sabotage. Also that's a 2003 accord, hardly up-to-date. And expensive? you can get ECU and OBD tools for $10 these days. I was gonna say that are least these guys aren't posers with macbooks and $2000 myfirstdrone kits like in the other video, but then they brought mcaffe, the lindsey lohan of IT security...

That is absolutely true, but you still have to get into the car to plug in that OBD II device I assume.
This is why i drive a 1992 corvette......

sugoruyo you said it the right way
at 4:20 you would require internal access to the car, this whole thing is overhyped. As usual Motherboard overhypes these things and blows them out of proportion.
Unless you have onstar or equivalent.

You can stick up an Arduino module with a GSM or Wi-fi reciever to the CAN bus. Considering this whole CIA Vault 7 stuff, I'm starting to be afraid.
Dev Everything th-cam.com/video/MK0SrxBC1xs/w-d-xo.html
You're right. This method requires physical access to one of the modules inside the car. As far as I know, there isn't wireless access to the CAN bus directly.
In this example the "hacker" had installed a custom gsm module. He could as easily used a simple elm327 with Bluetooth and get the same result. Still, you need access to the inside of the car.
@@sheeshulex elm327 gives you Bluetooth access to the CAN bus for as little as $10. You need physical access to the OBD port inside the car though. In theory you could modify the elm327 and tap into other CAN bus modules also.
*The guy takes his cyber security to the next level*
I've said this could happen for a long time, now. Glad to see professionals finally addressing this. I worry about the rest of the world, sometimes.
I didn't think the hand brake or foot brake were electronically connected
In new vehicles, yes, but its still rare. Its becoming more common and I personally don't like it. I want an emergency brake that is manual, no electronics what-so-ever.

... just like in the Mad Max movie, Muscle cars will rule the planet.
in 2050, those types of cars won't be allowed on the road.

Paul walker to.
anything is possible, anything, not saying that it was hacked but it seems when people can not find a reason why this would be done they conclude it was not a hack. just because you have no idea is no reason to rule it out. also the fact that they were pro drivers who raced gave some the idea they were out driving way to fast. well i know because i have spent sum serious time with cart, f1 & irl drivers that off the track they really do not behave like that on a street. i could be totally wrong this time & i knew nobody involved personally but knowing there racing background i am more inclined to think they were well in control & at safe speeds. racers spend a good deal of time at the track & it's just not the same on a public street so to a racer driving really fast off a track is not a thrill. just my 2 cents & i could be totally wrong but i don't think so
Hayden Davidson fuck Paul walker, he was nothing but a celebrity.
Yes, that's the point. I don't understand why they didn't say that in the video. (They just wrote a subtitle about it)
100% not buying a self driving car. Ever.
As you can see, the problem is not self driving cars alone. Every remotely modern car relies heavily on electronics. The recent hack of a Jeep didn't even require special hardware to be installed.
Panthers1521 buy an old school car from the 70’s or 90’s you’ll be safe
in 10 -20 years, good luck with that...
but what are the chances of someone hacking you to kill you if someone wanted to kill you that bad they would just shoot you or poison your food or some shit like that
buying an older car without a canbus/ good luck with that, buying a car and have a "firewall" and antitamper on the canbus.. good luck with that.
There are endless stories of people hacking cars from the outside without even doing anything to the car
What about brake module? Erase that coding bam. They don't work

yeah and my car cant start itself. You need to install remote start for that (if you turn your key and let it go if it keeps chugging til it starts it can start itself)

Nope, th-cam.com/video/MK0SrxBC1xs/w-d-xo.html
That’s why I lock my doors and unplug my car battery haha
And thats why I Should probably buy and drive a 1980s Mercedes Benz Diesel that can even start without electricty
even an atomic nuke with a huge EMP wouldn't stop you lol. I have a 1998 VW GOLF diesel. This car just doesn't give a fuck.
This is why I drive a 72 Chevy Blazer. No computers to worry about.
No this is not why you drive a 72 blazer, are you seriously pretending like you knew about cars being hacked? Like you just decided to buy a old piece of shit SUV because you didn't want to get hacked while driving, please stfu.
No, it is because you are a poor piece of shit.
Thats why you should drive OLD BMW or Audi or Mercedes. Only electricity lights and radio and thats it. Everything else is manual.
Well battery only place actually. but when you cut off battery than car dies and if you leave in gear you can safely pul over breaking with geears + engine.
why Mercedes BMW or Audi? Any old car works and btw those cars were hack friendly back in the 1980s, Toyotas were hack friendly in the 2000s

ECU!!!
Muhammad Ilham Unless you have onstar, that's a closed circuit. Can't hack it. And you definitely can't control the steering, or the brakes. They all run independent. This stuff is pure science fiction. And about that "third party device," It's pointless. You'd have to break into the car, crack open the ecu's case, solder the thing on, pray it still gets reception from wherever you are through all that heat insulation and shock absorbing jelly, and in the end why not just plant a bomb if you're really trying to kill someone that badly? jeez, all the effort.
enrique3402 The reason this would be better because it wouldn't be so obvious, a bomb screams murder/ gangsters or terrorist.

0:30 "The brakes are dead" Nope, the pedal has a mechanical connection to the hydraulic master cylinder and the hydraulic system actuates the brakes. At most he has lost ABS and power brake boost (only assists the driver in brake application)

so if you can hack a car. That means you can hack a Jet? or a Airplane?
since car intern communication is not fully standardized you have to analyze it ( im not a specialist for canbus but ive worked with it briefly ).
so you'd first get that information which will be hard since this is usually company secret and then you would have to know the cars systems well enough to get access to read/write on the canbus to do the things he did.
Still this is a lot of work where you need highly qualified people and if the car manufacturers up their security it should be even more difficult than it is now.
(i just hate that they got macafee in this video since their software is appaling)

"Hey its raining lambos!" "I WANA CATCH ONE..." *dead*

i guess thats in part 3: conference.hitb.org/hitbsecconf2013ams/materials/D1T1%20-%20Hugo%20Teso%20-%20Aircraft%20Hacking%20-%20Practical%20Aero%20Series.pdf
Every police officer that had been involved with a car chase would probably love to be able to do this at the right moment!
I’ve been in the shop so much over the past year more than over the previous 3 years.
i wonder how many people have been killed this way. Like a recent celebrity.......
CANBUS, lemme just write that here never to forget
Parrot Security OS comes preinstalled with Kayak, a car hacking tool that exploits CANBUS
-All these various hack videos are just made to promote thier channel, this is big time wastage if you're watching. Save your time,Save your Data and Contact @benjayhacks for his service on Instagram. Thank me later.
Princess Diana cough cough
@Iubaru Smpreza Probably easier to hack.
@@pat4rush No its not. The BUS does not have control over steering and braking like OBD2 does. I am sure it can be done but more difficult.
No argument hackerbrain__22 is the best hacker ever, successfully hacked into my partner’s car brake, you can also get to him for your hack jobs done perfectly for you through +12012012044✅

didn't have this tech in cars in 97 you dumbass
*i hacked my lawnmower! he is doing good!*
The remote hacking just can do it with Khali Linux Rigth ? Or you can do that with Windows too? With out programs only with Your console
which software do you use
Welp, another reason to get an AE86.
Basically a car is a wireless network that has the security equivalent to wep encryption.
Good luck hacking my 56 Oldsmobile super 88
But in the hypothetical above: The person in the runaway car has a better chance of survival.
well it still has a cam bus...

What are you going on about?
Those cars from the factory weigh about 3400 lbs new Corvettes weigh about 3200 so the "tri-five Chevy" cars don't weigh an aweful lot
What vehicle models are most susceptible and which ones are least?
Only bikes are safe

Which OS are you using to hack into the car ?
What model of DELL is he using?
"ay wheels! Stop"
uuuuhm, anyone got a link to make that little thing to control the car?
no
dangit
+Tim Oekluy did you think they were just goimg to put a tutorial on how to make it?
Would be cool...
But if they would do that most people would not want to drive their car anymore...

But yeah it exaggerates a lot, steering and handbrake are mechanical so telling it to turn left isn't a thing.
bottle2lip
Yeah clearly something had to be added to make this possible, I think they mentioned it at some point.
Overall this was a interesting topic poorly covered in nothing more than superficial detail.
True
mymy 😢
You could just use a sensor to detect if any signals are coming in and out of your car from other sources before starting it up to prevent this stuff
Give it a link
I would like to know how to hack so if a police car following me I can hack in his cat to stop his car :)
You're confusing cats with firewood.
***** lol yeah, I replied with my phone and auto-correction bullshit changed the text
You can't.
This report is just sensationalizing it. You have to put a device inside the car you want to "hack" connected to the CAN bus of the car.
Wankel Motor
I do not think that you need to get into car to add this.
I'm sticking with my 66' chevelle
The Transformers explained
what if you put one of those chips in your own car so no one else can put one of there's on or if they do then you can still control your car from your computer. would that help matters?
6:41 The vehicle shown is modified with 3rd party Hardware. As stock, It is not vulnerable.
Now it is clear how Paul Walker died
The fucking car he was driving was a carrera gt, the only electronic thing in it is the fucking radio
It should be noted from the start that you need to bug the shit outta the car to get this to work, not unlike good ol' analog sabotage. Also that's a 2003 accord, hardly up-to-date. And expensive? you can get ECU and OBD tools for $10 these days. I was gonna say that are least these guys aren't posers with macbooks and $2000 myfirstdrone kits like in the other video, but then they brought mcaffe, the lindsey lohan of IT security...
only talking and taking
show actually how its being done
we are not here for cinematography.

Whats with the Ford Fiesta CLX
from 28years ago ???
Should never stand in front of the car while trying this cuz sometimes commands may not match and cause unwanted actions by the car.
