I'm crying so much, especially at the LOTR story... those were my dad's favorite books and he didn't live to see me graduate from high school. I read them all during college to honor his memory and now they're some of my favorites too. I feel like he gifted them to me in a way and they're so precious to me because of him. This is such a beautiful video
Thank you for sharing your story Shelby, its my story and I know that I will forever cherish that memory and I am glad that the story resonated with you! x

My favorite book memory: in my hometown, once a year, there is “trash day” where you can leave bulk items (furniture, tree branches, etc) on your curb because huge garbage trucks were making rounds to take all of it. My mom and I were driving and passed a house with boxes and boxes of books.. I remember being perplexed why someone would get rid of so many books (we were never financially able to purchase my own books)... so I just remember feeling like I found treasures. I was about 11 years old and still.. that was the best day. They were all really old romance paperbacks, but I still picked out what I could and devoured them.

I had no idea somebody else was catching the light on dark nights so they can read the stories when they were a kid! Idk why it just makes me so excited to think I am not alone at that😂
I used to do it too but i had forgotten about it until right now. Such a special memory, when things were simple and I was so absorbed by reading a book.
I can remember being twelve years old and going to my local library in search of the Heroes of Olympus books. I didn't know how many they'd have and turns out they had all five. So I checked them out despite my schoolbag being full, and these were THICK hardback books. The librarian was very concerned. The walk home was agonising and I couldn't see where I was going with all the books in the way. I devoured that series in a matter of days.
My story about LOTR and my dad made it into the final version! I cannot wait to show him this video tonight! Thank you so much Ariel! This was so beautifully animated and the other stories are so heartwarming :')
Still can't believe one of my fondest memories is now animated so beautifully! Thank you for including my story in it, I loved it! Your work towards lifting books up and sharing your love of them is so inspiring! And much appreciated, thank you. PS. I showed this to my entire family and they loved it too

thank you so much for reminding me how magical books are! i had tears in my eyes hearing all of the beautiful stories, it’s amazing to see how books can be so personal and mean so much to a person.
It’s such an honour to be included in this beautiful project. You’ve truly outdone yourself on this incredible love letter to the wonder that books are 💛
Beautiful stories. Cried with happy tears. Waking someone in the middle of the night to tell them about what is happening in the book definitely rings true for me.
Don't mind me I'm just crying my eyes out. This video is so beautiful and it's such a beautiful message to people- I think especially people who are trying to get into reading or maybe have lost their love of stories in all the mess that is life- it's a beautiful reminder that you're never alone or not wanted be it in the pages of the stories, or in community with fellow story chasers
All of these are so relatable. Reading has always been so close to my heart. It’s one thing I’ll never get tired of. I still remember the first day I laid my hands on Harry Potter and the philosophers stone. Since then reading has always been the first thing on my bucket list. Before being a writer/author I surely was a reader, and I still am. Great video! Really loved the illustrations:)

This is such a pretty and cute and heartwarming video! Thank you for making this. It has just the right amount of stories and emotions and funny drawings, I love it
I think that books mean so much to me because they have always felt as a sort of solace to me. I have always read a lot, some years more than others. But I remember when I was in sixth grade I read the most I ever have. That year I did not have a lot of friends in my classroom so I would always quickly do my work and read at school. Then I read even more when I got home. I think that time was when I was the happiest ever, reading for hours when I got home and going to sleep hugging my book like a teddy bear. I read so many amazing books during that time, and I always felt at peace when I read. As I have gotten older, sadly I have not been able to read being busy with school and other things. But sometimes, when I have the time I grab one of the books I read during that time and it feels as if I was reliving the first time I ever read that book.
The Scholastic book fair brings back hardcore memories too but for me a favourite memory has to be being given a copy of Skulduggery Pleasant and binge reading all five books that were out at the time in a week, my mum still buys me the new one every year. This is such a beautiful video I’m so happy you’re back Ariel!
This is so beautiful I literally have tears in my eyes. Thank you for sharing all of these stories and reminding us all how reading is simultaneously so personal and universal.
I remember when I was eight years old, I lost my dad, and it was very sudden and I don’t have the time to consume or understand what’s happened, and that kind of triggered my PTSD. And I remember I went to a bookshop and saw Harry Potter and the philosopher stone, although I was beginning to learn how to read at school, but I know I wanted to read it, and it was the only thing I wanted to do around that time. I kept the book by my side 7/24 and running around in school catching every single chance to read it. And now I’m 23 years old, I appreciate that I have found such beautiful thing in my life, especially in a time I needed the most.
I lost my dad suddenly when I was 9, I'm 20 now. I picked up the Percy Jackson series, and I felt so much less alone. Thank you for sharing your story, you're never truly alone.
Alyssa Harvey thank you for your kind words and sharing your story too. ♥️ How wonderful books can be our ‘medicine’, and at the same time bring us together and build this beautiful community together

Harry Potter hasn't been a huge part of my life, yet it's a huge part of one of my favourite book memories. I was a latecomer to the Harry Potter party and was reading the books for the first time in high school. I was also working at my local library at that time. One weekend, I was set to work Friday night and all day Saturday, so I planned to finish The Deathly Hallows on Friday after work. Something came up on Friday night, so on Saturday I was left with 50 pages to finish... and a full day of work ahead. Every minute of my breaks that Saturday, I went to the back room and read. All my work was done an hour or two before the end of my shift, so I asked my supervisor what to do next. Her answer? Go read! I was apprehensive to be at work and just... not do work... but once she learned I was finishing the Harry Potter series for the first time ever, she INSISTED that I read. I remember thinking "just like a librarian!" and also "OH GOODNESS THANK YOU I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS." That gift of permission was so precious to me. (Especially as an angsty teen who didn't want to be interrupted by my parents at home while reading the earth-shattering end of The Deathly Hallows.)

in 8th grade, we were reading The Outsiders by S.E Hinton and watching the movie at the same time. despite the fact that my teacher accidentally spoiled the fact that Johnny my favourite character dies I still cried, it was the first time a book/movie made me cry the girl sitting next to me asked me "why are you crying there just characters." I just looked at her then walked over to my friends who understood how I felt and comforted me.
One of my favourite book memories (and one of my most important memories in general) was getting my first book ... to be specific my first English book since it's my second language.... I remember I went with my mom to a private school for a visit.... the principal was kind enough to offer me any book from the ones scattered on the coffee table.... I was thirteen at the time and out of all the books I felt one of them calling me (literally) I picked it up and it read "percy Jackson and the Olympians: the lightning thief" and I remember I though it was the coolest thing in the world .... I opened it and read the first line "look,I didn't want to be a halfblood"and I absolutely fell in love ... even in my native language I was never quit a reader ... but this book really changed my perception of reading ... I don't care if there are better books out there ... this is the one that I had my first book memories with and it will forever have a special place in my heart ..... (and on my shelf)
Oh that was so beautiful 🥰 I have so many great book memories! In 2016 when I flatted with 3 crazy boys (so many more stories in that haha) our house was pretty cold so in winter we started a blanket burrito book club where we'd each wrap up in a blanket like a burrito in the lounge, put on some instrumental music and read 🥰 we'd often share funny snippets of our books with each other as we went. It was such a lovely way we spent cold evenings, I really miss living with them! (I felt a bit like Jess from new girl 😂)
When I was in seventh grade, my middle school made this entire event out of the release of the first Hunger Games movie. The after school program ran the whole thing so if you were in the program and completed the twelve challenges, you automatically got to go for the field trip. Everybody else got their name thrown in a jar once for each challenge they completed. The challenges I barely remember but one was to pass the AR test. I think one was to make a game. It was just really fun and, looking back, it's amazing how hyped the entire school got for this book. I was always a reader but even those who never read were reading The Hunger Games. For the field trip, we took a bus to the local movie theater and had a private screening. It was awesome.
I can still remember the joy of going to the local library back when I was in primary school. My parents would always drop us off there after school on their way to work and I often ended up borrowing 16 books using all the 8 library cards which once belonged to my brothers and sisters. That was probably one of the most precious perks I had being the youngest out of 8 siblings.
This fills my heart with joy! When I was in 6th grade I struggled to make friends so I used to go to the school's library and read everyday, reading really became my best friend that year. I also remember the school librarian who was very kind and encouraging, I wanted to tell her about all the books I read but I was way too shy.
This was a beautiful idea. And it's fitting that I watched this video today; this morning, I visited my local bookstore for the first time in months. I've been scared to leave my house with the whole pandemic going on. But I wanted to see if they had The Lost Book of the White by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu (they did, which is very exciting!). Standing in that cute little shop, alone except for the very kind owner, I felt an almost overwhelming sense of happiness. I forgot how much I LOVE being in a bookstore and being surrounded by books. I'm really glad I took the chance to actually go outside!

One of my best memories of books is from sixth grade. I went to the school library and I checked out a book called “Shiver” but Maggie Steifvater. I never really read that much in elementary school besides things they had us read. I just remember falling in love with that book. I still love it. It’s the story that shaped my love of reading and books.
Ariel, I just cannot find the words to describe the beauty of this video✨✨!!! The animations are absolutely cute! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart! ❤️❤️
Most likely someone posted this already but this is my favourite quote about books. "He who loveth a book will never want a faithful friend, a wholesome counsellor, a cheerful companion, or an effectual comforter." - R.H. Barrow (or Isacc Barrow? Google was NOT clear!)
Reading under the streetlights made me so emotional. My family used to drive from TX to CA every summer to visit our family and I would literally catch any light I could on those drives to read I feel so nostalgic for those drives
I loved this video, it brought me comfort and a smile to my lips when I was feeling a little low. Thank you, you wonderful human being, this video means more than you might think. :) I remember learning to read in school and I was immediately hooked. So when school ended, I rushed to my small local library around the corner and was devastated when the librarian didn't let me lend the books I wanted to read. I ran home crying to my mum to tell her what happened. She went back with me to explain that I was rather advanced in my reading classes, and only after I proved to him that I understood what I wanted to read, he let me lend any book I want. I think I was his most avid reader, and always ended up talking with him about what I had read.
My mom is 80 years old. As a kid, she had her mom write a note to the library saying my mom could check out teen books, once she read the entire Children’s Section. Lol. My mom checked out the max amount allowed every week. Walked to and from the library by herself.
When I was little and shared a room with my sisters, I always had to read by the closet door at night because otherwise I couldn't read. When we renovated the basement so that there would be more bedrooms, my sister was having trouble sleeping in her new room, so she would ask me to read by her closet door until she fell asleep. I don't remember how long that went on, but it's pops up in my memory from time to time.
Mine is recent because it's about my boyfriend. He knew I loved books and that my ex used to make me get rid of my books. So he encouraged me to build my own library by buying and building my book shelves and taking me book shopping. I'm blessed to have such a thoughtful loving man in my life.
The closet/Narnia one got me, and since I've only been a sobbing mess tring to eat its breakfast 😅 Amazing video ! Some of my favorite book memories include reading Harry Potter for the first time with my father and best friends, but also that time I discovered I could read while walking back from the library 😂
it's good to know that there's so many people who have a really special memory with the last harry potter book. i was reading it and finished it during a time when i went to my grandpa's house and it was also the last time i saw him. harry potter really helped me deal with my grief because just knowing that im not alone in this. it was also during a time when my group of friends left me so i would wear this one wizard hat pin everywhere with me to know i have something to look at that brings me comfort.
What a wonderful collection of memories, and the illustrations are beautiful, so clever and playful! One of my favourite book memories is from when I was about 8 or 9 and my mother took me to town to buy the next book in The Edge Chronicles by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell. I adored that series as a child. I remember sitting on the train home with the book in my lap, I wouldn't let it out of sight. It was still wrapped in plastic, but I didn't want to open it before I was home, so I just kept looking at the beautiful cover. The anticipation was killing me 😆
I love all of these. The scholastic book fair is one of my favorite memories with books as well as remembering who made me love to read - my grandpa. Every weekend, he will take me to the library and let me check out at least 1-2 books to make sure that I was going to finish them - this started when I was around 4. He would always tell me "Let's go on an adventure" and we would read together. When I got older and the book fairs were available, he would give me money or he would order all the books that I want (which was like 4-5). Now, I have all these "memories" with characters and the different worlds that I have been to because of him.
OMG its so beautiful ariel this video has touched all the hearts of the readers! Thank you so much for conveying all the memories of the readers! Love this omg
When I was growing up, books were my only friends. I escaped into them, and the characters were my companions. During recess, I would walk around the track at my elementary school, and I would just read my books because I didn’t have anyone else to play with.
This is beautiful! I’m almost tearing up due to how emotionally driven this whole video is. You did a great job at conveying the sense of nostalgia and fond memories. You nailed it!
I cannot believe I'm tearing up because of a video. This is truly beautiful. Even if our memories are different, that underlying love for books in all of them is the same.
This video actually made me cry. My love for reading like a constant roller coaster, but it is this community I have found that makes me fall in love with reading all over again! The nostalgia in this is chilling and I wish I could be that little girl again just eating up the first book I could get my hands on
This is beautiful and made me smile through the entire video. It also made me recall some of my fave memories involving books that were locked away in my head.
Oh my goodness, how lovely! This is just absolutely beautiful, Ariel, congrats to you and Maddy Vian! I would honestly watch 100 videos like this, it's just adorable and perfect!
This video is beyond beautiful. I genuinely feel so emotional after watching it. It just shows you how much of an impact books have on our lives. Countless of books shaped us in to the people we are today. Thanks for reminding me why I love reading so much.
Wow I have goosebumps at work, this video is so pure and joyful and I’m blinking back tears of my own cherished book memories. What a beautiful project.
This is so wholesome, Ariel! Thanks for doing this. As a book nerd I've always heard how I should spend more time going out and less time reading, but watching this reminded me of all the precious experiences I wouldn't have had if it weren't for books
This is the most wholesome thing - I've been having a rough day and this was just what I needed, it gave me all the warm, fuzzy book feels. When I was about eleven, I moved to a downstairs bedroom, which was great as everyone else was upstairs and so couldn't see if my light was on at midnight as I read.
one of my favorite book memory is staying up late on school nights reading the Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices and my mom getting so angry I wasn't sleeping one day (she saw the light under my door) that she cut the power and I responded by throwing my book at the door. now everytime I see the spine of my copy of Clockwork Princess I remember it😂
I was not expecting to cry, but the dad memories got me since my own favorite book memory involves my dad who passed away when I was a kid. Beautiful ❤️
Thank you so much Ariel, what a gorgeous video. My first book in English was Little Women, which my late Grandma have to me and I still have that copy. It just proves that books bind the world together no matter what's going on, books find a way to survive and pull us through.
This is so beautiful! Definitely makes me remember why I love booktube :) One of my favorite book memories was hearing Kate Bush's song "Wuthering Heights" and loving it immediately. I loved that someone could be inspired by literature to write a pop song (with accompanying atmospheric music video)! After that, I was inspired to read Wuthering Heights which is now one of my favourite books. I don't think I would love the song as much without the book or love the book as much without the song. An elegant return, Ariel, so glad to see you post.
This was such an awesome video, it brought me so much day to watch this video after this long day. It's amazing how books change people, make an impact on people and stick with us for the rest of our lives
These stories are simply heartwarming. When I was a kid I had struggle with reading so I didn't like it at all. Then I got the first Harry Potter book and that changed everything. I remember the urge to read more and the all night readings, the waiting and the excitement to get the following books. Books can open other worlds, feelings and it's one of the best things.
my favorite book memory was when i was finishing breaking dawn in the seventh grade (2009) and it was way past my bedtime and i hid under my blankets using my DS as a light to finish it :)
My favourite book memory is starting Grade 9 at a new school in a new city and not knowing anyone. I quickly found out that one of the girls in my class was just as obsessed with my favourite book as I was. It's been over 10 years and we're still close friends.
My favorite book memory was when i finished my first final exams at college. I went straight to my room, opened the name of the wind and finished that night. It was raining and i was sitting on my grandma’s couch with a blanket 🥺 it was wholesome
This is such a beautiful work of art. Officially one of my fave videos on booktube ever since discovering this addictive YT community 3 years ago. As an avid reader and lover of books in general, I could relate to so many of the stories and/or personal experiences. It brings back memories of reading books in the dark and under my blanket with the help of my celphone's screen light because I'm not allowed to read fictional books on school nights, as well as that time when I teared up upon reading wendy leave a morose peter pan and the children of neverland for her home in the city. Another thing I take away from watching this video is the nostalgia that hits me whenever I recall the first time I fell for a book and reading. For this, I have to give a shoutout to that school librarian in grade school who introduced me to the wonder that is books and the magic that is reading. And a shoutout to the book that made me fall hard - Mary-Kate and Ashley's Sweet 16 #2: Wishes and Dreams. ^^ P.S. I was in 3rd grade. P.P.S. That front book cover got me. 'Twas so pretty. For a 3rd grader at least. ^^
one of my main goals in therapy right now is to be able to sit down and enjoy reading a book again, i used to read fairly often as a kid but as I grew older and more anxious, distracted, it's become a lot harder, i really want to be able to go back to that because I still love having and collecting books so much
This was so wholesome 🥺🥺🥺 It somehow made me kinda emotional and now I'm reminiscing about my experience with books growing up. I haven't considered myself a reader for the longest time cause the reading I did was never considered "reading" since I only listened to audio books for the longest time cause I'm a slow reader. This year I've actually started to read physical books and I've fallen in love with that form of reading as well. Books will always be a huge part of my childhood. My favorite book memories are my mother reading to me every night. We mad it through some big boys! years later I found out that by reading to me every night my mother overcame her fear of reading out loud which she had since she was a child.
The book fair was the best! It always happened at our schools around the same time as parent-teacher interviews. One year, after meeting with my teachers, my mom came home and slipped a 'Dear Canada' book under my pillow because she was proud of me.
My fav book memory is when i first read the Harry potter series. It was from their where I started. Me and my brother actually fought over who gets to read the last book. I got the book first so i went to the room lit a scented candle and got some coffee sat down and read it
These were all so beautiful, so many wonderful stories. One of the most impactful book memories for me was reading Series of Unfortunate Events, I started reading it in elementary school after my Dad died by suicide and it was the first and greatest time a book has helped me cope and impacted me in a monumental way.
I have sooooo many memories that involves books or completely revolves around them, but one of my wierder ones was when i read one of my favourite books aloud to my mom. I would make voices for each character and she thought it was really funny, but when we came to a point where one of my favourite characters died i just completely broke down (like i did when i read it the first time) i could barely get through the page and my mom asked if she should do it but i was stubborn and i WANTED TO READ IT TO HER! so i did, with tears running down my face and a very shakey voice. But i did it!
I’m crying. These stories are beautiful and the illustrations are amazing.
This made me cry too 😂
Yes! Tears running down my face! & The memories flooding in!

thank you so much for reminding me how magical books are! i had tears in my eyes hearing all of the beautiful stories, it’s amazing to see how books can be so personal and mean so much to a person.
These illustrations and stories are so endearing 🥺🥺
It’s such an honour to be included in this beautiful project. You’ve truly outdone yourself on this incredible love letter to the wonder that books are 💛
Beautiful stories. Cried with happy tears. Waking someone in the middle of the night to tell them about what is happening in the book definitely rings true for me.
So now I'm crying. This was beautiful, Ariel.
Beautiful comment! 😍
Oh my goodness I’m crying!! I love this so so much! The power of books and reading is truly universal and astounding. 😭😍
Ohh I love this video so much, the animations are absolutely stunning, and the stories kind of make me want to cry. I LOVE BOOKS!

This is beautiful. I could relate so much I absolutely loved this thank you!!
My favorite book memory is staying up way too late every night reading because I’m having so much fun and then being very tired the next day.
I have a bookmark that says, I read way past my bedtime!

(Especially as an angsty teen who didn't want to be interrupted by my parents at home while reading the earth-shattering end of The Deathly Hallows.)

in 8th grade, we were reading The Outsiders by S.E Hinton and watching the movie at the same time. despite the fact that my teacher accidentally spoiled the fact that Johnny my favourite character dies I still cried, it was the first time a book/movie made me cry the girl sitting next to me asked me "why are you crying there just characters." I just looked at her then walked over to my friends who understood how I felt and comforted me.
i am so glad you made this. it is so beautiful and makes me love reading even more! amazing job, this is a gorgeous video!!!!
Such a warm hearted video. Brought me so much joy 😊 thank you.
Ariel, you truly brighten every space with your dedication to the positive effects of reading. Sending so much love 💕
That was a beautiful video Ariel, please keep making more❤️
Oh that was so beautiful 🥰 I have so many great book memories!
Thanku for sharing :) sounds super fun!!😍🤩 and yes the analogy to jess in new girl is quite apt then😉.
What a blissful video!!! Loved every second of it...❤❤❤
When I was in seventh grade, my middle school made this entire event out of the release of the first Hunger Games movie.

Ariel this is instantly one of my favorite videos on TH-cam ever. Thank you so much for finding these stories and creating this video.
All of this is relatable. Especially the Harry potter stories
I remember learning to read in school and I was immediately hooked.
I cried basically this whole video, it's so beautiful! Both the stories and the animation. I would love it if you ever did another one of these ❤
I once was so obsessed a book that when I had to shower one day, I put a clear shower cap over it and continued to read it in the shower 😂😂😂.
The story about the girl with her boyfriend is so cute omg
These are all so beautiful and lovely 🥺❤️😊
It’s bringing back memories of my own bookish endeavours 😂
I love this video 💖💖💖
Captured the love of reading so well. Truly warmed my heart I audibly exclaimed “awwww”
Warmed my heart and made me think of my own book memories and why books are so special and so precious to me. Thank you, Ariel 💖
This is so wholesome, Ariel! Thanks for doing this. As a book nerd I've always heard how I should spend more time going out and less time reading, but watching this reminded me of all the precious experiences I wouldn't have had if it weren't for books
This video brought me so much joy! Thank you for producing it and thank you to everyone who shared their stories!
Wow. What a sentimental comfort this was
one of my favorite book memory is staying up late on school nights reading the Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices and my mom getting so angry I wasn't sleeping one day (she saw the light under my door) that she cut the power and I responded by throwing my book at the door. now everytime I see the spine of my copy of Clockwork Princess I remember it😂
I was not expecting to cry, but the dad memories got me since my own favorite book memory involves my dad who passed away when I was a kid. Beautiful ❤️
The bit about the Sense and Sensibilities and Monsters has me cryiiiiiing
Thank you so much Ariel, what a gorgeous video. My first book in English was Little Women, which my late Grandma have to me and I still have that copy. It just proves that books bind the world together no matter what's going on, books find a way to survive and pull us through.
This is so beautiful! Definitely makes me remember why I love booktube :)
One of my favorite book memories was hearing Kate Bush's song "Wuthering Heights" and loving it immediately.
This is just so beautiful, Ariel. Touched my heart. Books are truly amazing and I so appreciate you and everyone featured in this for creating it.
What great vignettes worth experiencing, sharing and telling. Thanks to everyone who was involved in this whole process.
Oh wow, this was such a lovely video! I love that books and stories about books stay with us for so long and they shape who are as people 🤍
my favorite book memory was when i was finishing breaking dawn in the seventh grade (2009) and it was way past my bedtime and i hid under my blankets using my DS as a light to finish it :)
P.S. I was in 3rd grade.
P.P.S. That front book cover got me. 'Twas so pretty. For a 3rd grader at least. ^^
This is so beautiful! I love hearing everyone’s stories about books in such a creative way!
one of my main goals in therapy right now is to be able to sit down and enjoy reading a book again, i used to read fairly often as a kid but as I grew older and more anxious, distracted, it's become a lot harder, i really want to be able to go back to that because I still love having and collecting books so much
This was so wholesome 🥺🥺🥺
It somehow made me kinda emotional and now I'm reminiscing about my experience with books growing up.
Omg yes the scholastic book fair ;-; I used to volunteer as a kid cause I loved reading and books so much!
I got the book first so i went to the room lit a scented candle and got some coffee sat down and read it
Me tooo
These stories made me so emotional❤️ Thank you, Ariel, for helping people share their experiences☺️
Only 5 minutes? I could have watched/listened for hours. The illustrations are fantastic with the stories.
Every book lover have book memories. Whether they're happy or sad.
they're always in deep down our hearts
So, so beautiful. Thank you Ariel!
i have chills all over this is wonderful
All these stories were so touching. Really loved it
I love this! Crying in the 1st story, love their dad! Thank you for sharing this.
This is a beautiful video! Reminds me of exactly why I love reading so much 💕
i read in the dark car with street lights too! :’)
