Pretty sure that's Vanina Walsh. 18 years old. She's a professional surfer, model, and owns her own a clothing line. Speaks several languages. I can't do any of that, but this morning I balanced a cheeto on my nose.

You never forget your first solo. My instructor took me up for 30 min of touch and go and criticized most of what I did even smacking me with the check list. Final we landed and I figured I would never solo anytime soon. He got out and told me to make two touch and go's and land. Later I ask him about all the crap he gave me prior to the solo. He said he wanted to see if I got rattled by anything before I went on my own.

I do not usually comment on videos, but I felt this one needed it. I want to congratulate the lady for her solo, her fantastic aeronautical decision making and the outstanding and meticulous cockpit management. But that said , this would not be happening without instructors like the one she has. I wish there were more CFI's like this guy, who for what I can see in this video, engraves in his students the importance of each and every step of what it is to fly an aircraft. The rigorous skill to recognize when it is time to call a go around and know that it was in fact the smart thing to do. The importance of check lists and clear communication. I salute with great respect and admiration to both this lady aviatrix and the CFI

I agree with this. I’ve had my far share of instructors and unfortunately a good amount of them were just looking to gain hours until they could find a better job. Which is understandable and acceptable as long as you don’t abuse it. One of them was very short tempered and I couldn’t ask a simple question without getting shot down. There needs to be more instructors out there like this one.

Much respect for this young woman, not for her first solo, but for getting her commercial multiengine rating since then. That is a real accomplishment. Except for someone who is afraid of flying, anyone with a minimum of coordination can get a private pilot licence. A first solo is unforgettable true (mine was in 1978), but objectively not a bit deal.

She failed to inform the tower of the missed and go around. Also when she moved up to the runway and radioed the tower she just said she was holding short, there appeared to be another aircraft already closer to the hold short line. So, a more correct call to the tower is
Tower Cessna N***** holding short 22 right ready for departure in sequence.

Hey. I don’t know much, but I think she forgot to check the intersection at 4:48. Looks like she's looking at the taxi way just ahead. I think that even when you are in the air, you should also observe other directions than just where you are turning next. I think a really exciting situation is causing the routine to go partially off. Imagination training in complete peace, slowed down 10 times, is good, because you don't fall from the edge of your own bed and have time to think about everything you need in the right order. Probably as important as a simulator. Right?

I had a little problem hearing tower's instructions, did they instruct you to land long? Your first solo is always an interesting experience for sure. My very first solo, I was abeam of the numbers in a right pattern when a large gust of wind hit the right side of the aircraft and tilted it quite a bit before I even knew what was happening. Totally unexpected, I only had 9 hours at the time, and had not ever had a gust hit me before. Had to fight hard not to jump out of the plane it rattled me so much. For all that, my landings were good. Hope you have been able to log a lot more hours by now.

Well, I hate to be that guy who rains on a beautiful young woman's parade, but I'm gonna be that guy.
I'd like to start by saying, Congrats, you should be very proud of yourself. Overall you did a GREAT JOB! I especially liked you recognizing you where too fast and too high on your first approach, and making a sound decision to go around. Way to be PIC!
Now for the not so good. I'm not picking on you, I get this was your fist solo, but I want you to live a long healthy life as a successful pilot. I noticed two things that you can improve on and both may save your life one day, perhaps even those of others who might watch this video and see this post.
AirFreaddy did say you made a couple mistakes and have corrected them. Maybe he's already talked to you about these.
The first thing I noticed (it's possible you did it and I missed it) was there was now 'Gear Down' Check. I realize your flying a C-172 with fixed gear, and it's not in your checklist for the aircraft, but it's my opinion that this should be in every pilots primary training. We used to teach GUMPS... Gas, Undercarriage(gear), Mixture, etc... If you learn this in primary training, you should remember it and say it automatically, several times on downwind, base and final, and it covers every airplane you could fly.
As you progress in to more complex aircraft and as you become more familiar, a day will come that you most likely wont use the check list for every landing, and the only acceptable exception to that is to have a bombproof flow, that covers everything. When that day comes, you'll appreciate having learned this early on. You'd be amazed how many planes land gear up.
The second thing, and this is a real biggie, is that I noticed on each of your approaches, on your base to final turn, you where skidding the tail around trying to get the nose in alignment with the runway. This is bad, bad, bad. You got away with it because you were carrying enough airspeed, and your had your nose pointing down, however it is a cross controlled condition, it is incorrect, it can be a deadly habit to get into. Stall/Spin accidents are the number one killer of pilots in general aviation.
Please talk to your instructor about these things and get his input. Otherwise, again, GREAT JOB and welcome to aviation.

Good Choice to a go around then do a greaser . One thing I get puzzled with on a few Videos is Why do some pilots
Not set QFE on altimeter when setting up to land . ??

The fact she’s a female airman says a lot about intelligence in general

Before you do anything, go get your flight medical first. If you pass go get Sporty's ground school training. Google Sporty's pilot shop. After you pass the ground school look for a good CFI in your area.

Wait, I only saw 1 touch and go ? Where's the 2nd? Did you get an 'F' for not doing it ? or does the first cancelled touch & go count ?

Was she doing touch and goes? Student pilots should be doing full stop taxi backs. At least that's the way I was trained
