  • I am blown away by how powerful the Ryzen 4500U CPU is, and how the Lenovo Ideapad 5 takes budget laptops to a new level. This laptop gets the basics right. It runs cool, quiet, and has a great keyboard, trackpad and a decent screen

      @Suncho, there is the option of ordering from the manufacturer directly and then shipping it where you are. In my experience, it allows better customisation, you get access to direct substantive discounts that can shave up to a quarter of the price depending on occurrence of routine vs special offers, there is better variety of after-sales service and you completely bypass unscrupulous middle men. I have gone down that path and I have no regrets.

    • @GoldenBeholden
      @GoldenBeholden 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@umar24579 It's not that clear-cut if it's only for studying, especially if it doesn't come with some additional RAM to offset the 2 GB reserved for the Vega graphics, and 45 dollars might be a significant amount depending on your region and financial situation, so it's a worthwhile question to ask.

    • @GoldenBeholden
      @GoldenBeholden 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@tobiibot2049 The nice thing about getting a Ryzen CPU with Vega graphics is that you won't be limited to just studying, which might be nice if you ever get into light gaming/CAD/modelling, etc. However, if you just need an Office suite and browser, even a Chromebook would do the job just fine - so if you're already set on buying something better than the minimum, you might as well spend a bit more for a much more future-proof system.

      That's what capitalist winner do. If AMD can successfully gain major market share they will definitely do the same, lowering the frequency of increasing performance for the next product. Heck it even already started now, you see their new chip with ending XT is just refresh the chip already in the market and no rush to release the next gen CPU because there is no competition from Intel for the time being.

    Thanks Josh. Great, non nonsense review. You persuaded me to take the plunge. Just configured this in the UK:
    Processor - AMD Ryzen 7 4700U Processor (2.00GHz, Max Boost up to 4.10GHz, 8 Cores, 8MB Cache)
    Operating System - Windows 10 Home 64
    Operating System Language - Windows 10 Home 64 English
    Microsoft Productivity Software - Microsoft Office Trial
    Memory - 16GB DDR4 3200MHz Onboard
    Second Hard Drive - 256GB Solid State Drive, M.2 2242, PCIe-NVMe, TLC
    Display - 15.6" FHD (1920x1080), IPS, Anti-glare, 2.6mm Thickness, 300nits, Narrow bezel
    Graphic Card - Integrated Graphics
    Color - Graphite Grey
    Keyboard - Keyboard Backlit Iron Grey English (UK)
    Camera - 720p HD Camera with Array Microphone
    Surface Treatment - Anodizing
    Fingerprint Reader - Fingerprint Reader
    Palmrest - PC/ABS
    Battery - 4 Cell Li-Polymer Internal Battery, 70Wh
    Power Cord - 95W AC Adapter (3pin)-UK (USB Type C)
    Wireless - Wireless 2x2 AC, Bluetooth Version 5.0 or above
    Language Pack - Publication-English
    Warranty - 1 Year Courier or Carry-in
    All for less than £700! Incredible to think that this will be a pound lighter, smaller and roughly twice as fast as my 2015 Macbook Pro 15 (which cost £2500).

      It's noticeable that on the German Lenovo site you can remove Windows (-€60), but the 4800U CPU upgrade costs €180.00 as opposed to £100.00 and only Bluetooth 4.1 is available on the Wireless card. I couldn't order the 70Whr battery either, only the 57Whr.
      Still an amazing deal from UK Lenovo though. Just wish I could get rid of Windows.

      Not on the MacBook Air. Pretty much every reviewer who spoke about the MacBook error said it was only good for browsing the web. They specifically said you don't want to edit videos on it, you don't wanna edit photos on it you pretty much don't wanna do anything that most people buy a Mac for on it.
      When the arm base Macs come out, I think your statement will be true. The majority transistors on Apple's Arm SOCs are used in accelerators. But the Intel MacBook Air is hot garbage.

      While I agree, AMD has a significant design limitation holding these chips back. They dedicate 8 lanes to the IGP, so there are only 8 left for a discrete GPU, and they are 3.0 so next gen cards will not even fix it. They really should have included a chipset option to direct all 16 lanes to the GPU instead of forced bifurcation.
