    I have a Mezzer Pro on my 2023 Kenevo and the setting was fire and forget. Followed the recommended settings +5 psi being an ebike and sent the thing down the trail. It's awesome everywhere, much better than my previous rockshox. I have to say I have a Manitou Dorado on my dh rig though, so everything felt familiar to me.

    I might be alone here but I love the mezzer pro damper. It just works, and is very predictable and easy to adjust. I used a lot of info found on MTBR to adjust the clickers and pressure.

    I live at 6000ft and regularly bike at 1000+ ft. Instead of setting lower pressures at lower elevations to compensate for a high elevation ride I'll just reset my air pressures when I get to the high altitude trailhead and that keeps everything feeling consistent without having to keep a separate set of pressures for different altitude rides.

    I have a Mezzer Pro and have ran it for a couple of years now. I also have a 36 & 38 and have ridden most other forks on the market. I’d put the Mezzer up against any of them. That said I did just get the Super Z and I prefer the damper of the super Z. Also, make damn sure you do not have any weight on the fork when you are adjusting the dual air chamber. The tire must be suspended. If your bike is sitting on its tires and you adjust the bottom chamber, it will not work properly.

    • @OtterMTBtech

      @@OtterMTBtech No you should hold it if you want full travel but if you don't actually need 180mm then it's fine to let it sag a little bit. It makes the negative champer bigger and can give good results.

      @@TheAngryHusky This might be why the adding more to the IRT didnt work for him. The shitty thing about setting this fork up is that you need to empy all chamers first and then fill the IRT then the Dorado. The Dorado will push on the IRT so if you fill the IRT to "top it up" you will be filling it while the Dorado is pushing on it and you will get an incorrect reading.

    I also used to have a Mezzer. But I didn't warm to it. No matter how I adjusted the pressure, the damping was always poor. I swapped the fork for a Marzocchi Z1, which was much better in terms of ride feel and damping. Today I only ride Fox and I'm super happy with it, it's simple and it works and you can get help and spare parts everywhere if you have a problem on the road. Service is also not to be underestimated. In my opinion, the Mezzer is a fork for hobbyists who want to put a lot of effort into their suspension. If you are a set and forget rider, don't get a Manitou!

  • @gophop
    @gophop หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Mezzer is good even without the dual air system. I have a Pro and 2 Experts. I prefer the latter. It's slightly more sensitive off the top because of the larger positive chamber that requires less pressure to give proper sag. And the damper is easier to tweak without any noticeable performance reduction. 90% of the time I only use 2 positions and switch between them based on terrain: jump lines or trashed descents. A lockout is very handy on XC trails. I also have a Fox 38F , 3x Fox36F, and a Yari with RC2.1. Mezzer Expert over all of them, no questions.
    Mezzer Pro does work quite well on my eMTB. IRT allows me to have enough support for the 60lb bike without suffering from small bump harshness. Yes, it loses travel when stored in the cold, as the seals shrink. Very annoying.
    Reverse arch doesn't create a pocket of dust between it and the stanchion like you get on a forward arch - you can't get in there and wipe it. And it's lighter. Literally, all benefits.

  • @aurimasjablonskas1623
    @aurimasjablonskas1623 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    Manitou uses reverse arch for decades, it is not just a Mezzer feature that is copied by fox after 5 year. However Manitou owned patent of reverse arch which is expired, and manufacturers still find advantages in reverse arch design (Fox is example). In addition there were Pace and DT Swiss who used reverse arch as well.
    I was thinking about Mezzer Pro, however creaking CSU problems (greater than Fox), some lower quality parts and fact that there are much advanced and balanced dampers currently in the marked, all these kept me away from dual chamber. And left Ohlins in my future upgrades after current Fox 38

    I love the reverse arch, I ruined the stanchions of my rockshox pike with trapped rocks, thats impossible with manitous backwards arch. The reverse arch is just mechanically stronger, lighter, allows more clearance, and in my case keeps rocks from flipping up into the arch. The mezzer pro is an amazing fork as well, made especially sweet with it on sale right now.

  • @trentvlak
    @trentvlak หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    You can't weight the fork while filling the air spring or it will sink into travel because opening the valve connects the positive and negative chambers. LSC will shift both damping curves, so you want to max out LSC before turning HSC. I have no idea why you run it with open damping to "isolate the air spring". Everything works together....

    • @comeridewithmeAE
      @comeridewithmeAE หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The damper side can have a huge effect on how progressive a fork is. If the shim stack is worn or the settings are closed off, the fluid in the damper can basically get blocked from flowing correctly through the system feeling like you hit a wall of progression. By opening the compression damping up all the way, you can isolate the air spring. And with an air spring as unique as the Manitou one, you'll want to isolate it to test it out. I am running a Mezzer right now and love it so I am biased, but the damper stuff applies to all forks. Had to reduce the oil volume in a DVO fork damper the other day because it was packing up and hitting a wall at around 150mm of the 170 they were supposed to have

    • @pernyberg2816
      @pernyberg2816 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@comeridewithmeAE air spring and damper works in a system - I am sure you agree on that.
      Air spring is made for suspending your static weight, provide resistance throuout the whole stroke and will ramp up in the end of the stroke as air does. What it does not do is hold you up or change the shape of the forces needed to compress the fork in different scenarios as the air is not speed sensitive - it is position sensitive.
      Dampers on the other hand is the other way around - speed sensitive and not position sensitive.
      So using the air spring to try to make it do things the air spring is bad at - IE the dampers work - you are doing it wrong.
      And if you feel that adding LSC makes the fork harsh than you have other problems on hand - like a shitty damper for example.
      Ohlins another brand that also have 2 air springs (well both Dorado and Ohlins have three with the negative included....but who is counting?) and they rely heavaly on the damper and less on the air spring = stable chassis which will give a predictable ride. Forks with shitty dampers will rely mre on the air spring and not be suited for going fast with in rough terrain.

    The idea that a damper can be "old" is just silly to me. Fox and RS are constantly coming out with new dampers because they are trying to get around the costs associated with a good damper, like Showa and their big piston fork and WP and their xplor fork. The Mezzer damper gets the job done with tried and true technology, as does the KYB SSS fork and WP's "new" CC spring fork.

    • @OtterMTBtech
      @OtterMTBtech  หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’re right and wrong. Fox takes years, RS every 3 months it feels like.
      The Mezzer is bladder and we have 2 kinds of oil in the lowers, stress matter of time before the lower leg fluid goes into the damper. Your right it works pretty good

    Took me 2 seasons to get my Dorado to how I want it. Manitou's user manual and setup guide played a vital role on how to get it right the first time. Heck, even installing the wheels if you dont read the instructions, weird noises are going to haunt you. Compared to other forks, you can skip the user manual. Dont do this with a Manitou product, thats why it took me 2 years to get it right.
    Also, Manitou has been using reverse arch lowers since early 2000's. I used to have a Skareb and R7 back in the day when I used to race in XC. The reverse arch keeps things light, compact and still provide stiffness vs trad arches.9

    I live at 7200 feet with my Mezzer, and it works very well for me, but I run pretty low pressures. Like 48 main spring 54 IRT. I like a bit more of a linear fork. When I take it to lower elevations the initial stroke is a bit more supple.

    5:35 I wouldn't go as far to say copying. But what's interesting the arch of the new Fox 32 was designed with AI and seemingly brings more stiffness so you could say that maby Manitou was a bit ahead of its time with the reverse arch (idk)

    Interesting that raising the upper (IRT) pressure didn’t do anything. Usually for bike parks, I just raise the IRT by 10% (high elevation fwiw). No change to the main chamber. Keeps it supple off the top while adding more mid support and progression deeper in the stroke. Had a harder time dialing in a new Zeb Ultimate this weekend for whatever reason.
