dave, there was a fellow in massachusetts by the name of guy claret who developed what became known as Power Control for amplifiers back in the 70's. from what i know it was a varible control on the amp chassis ( volume pot). that affected the b+ & b- at the same time, footswitchable too. im only assuming here but i think it lowered Plate voltage & bias at the same time.i have here an old traynor 2x el84 1x12 combo that guy modified w the.power control circuit in it. it was modified for an old bandmate of mine & i ended up w the amp. it has an insane amt of gain.. i know there was a patent applied for the circuit, not sure about granted. there is info avail thru patent office, if you want to seek. sadly, guy claret passed some years back.
How bitter sweet that Paul throws and breaks his burst onstage at Free's last show. I wonder if that's why he's holding a strat on 'Backstreet Crawler'?
