    If you blip the gas when you downshift, like rev matching, that'll alleviate the car getting unsettled!

    Funny, I'm exactly the opposite when it comes to using the clutch. I have always preferred using LB, but I can see why this gives you an advantage. Great video and keep up the good work!

    • @imnota
      @imnota 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only problem when using LB is that when you're braking and downshifting, you have a different finger on the brake than when you're not using manual with clutch.
      When I've switched from manual to manual with clutch I was never able to brake as I did before.

    for people having trouble with their cars stalling off the line adjust your first gear ratio and differential or use the layout that puts the handbrake and clutch on the right stick and the best way for braking on all tracks is rev matching not just throwing the engine in a lower gear rev matching downshifts while braking helps get the BEST of braking as the engine will be at or close to the rpm of the lower gear so it won't cause any wheel spin and traction loss the way to do that is while or before braking clutch first then downshift and just before you let the clutch go tap the gas to get the rpms up to the lower gear speed then let the clutch go repeat that until you are at a good cornering speed or don't need to slow down anymore

    Depending on the car sometimes changing up in the lower gears without lifting can unsettle the car and you can get some wheel spins. That's pretty much the only time shifting up on full throttle would really make a difference to lifting to shift

    Sutper GT, how do you do Manual clutch with a wheel and pedals? Since the clutch is just a button anyway and not actually a pedal that can be metered.
    I'm not sure that a clutch pedal is worth the hassle. Is there a way to have a manual clutch without a clutch pedal?
    Asking, because I am looking into a wheel and pedals.
    thanks.

    I probably learned it the hard way but I'm so used to it now it's a habit. I use the LB button as the clutch and the normal X and B buttons for shifting. I find it easy although it took a while to get used it. I use my left middle finger on the trigger for brake all the time and left index finger on the LB for clutch all the time. I have ABS off all the time as well. Works for me that way. #All the time haha

    Great video, I'll try that out now... I've been running into an issue where it seems like either on the start line, or after I brake heavily, that my clutch will get stuck at 75% and my car essentially won't move. I know it's not the button getting stuck on the controller, but it takes forever to correct. Looking for solutions is how I came across your video. Have you run into that at all? Cheers!

    • @Super_GT
      @Super_GT  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jon Chichwak Yeah, that happens on quite a few cars. What I do is hold down clutch and throttle before the countdown timer, then release clutch once you can go. This isn't perfect but the car should actually move.

  • @alexjune6414
    @alexjune6414 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    When I hit x or b to shift and I don't hit the clutch in the telemetry it says the clutch was applied but I didn't apply it. I have clutch with manual on, so why don't I have to use the clutch to shift? It makes a weird noise if I don't actually press the clutch. But I still am able to shift without using the clutch, just the game being weird and clutching for me?

  • @showbizcec4985
    @showbizcec4985 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Stupid question, how do you know exactly when to shift? And when you slow down how do you tell how many gears you need to shift down without looking at the RPMs.

    On Xbox 360 I used to use LB and RB to shift gears and A as a clutch, but the trick is to turn switch gear up/down to ON. So you upshift with left hand while accelerating with right and vice versa, and only when you need to uprev when downshifting you would use two fingers on RB and RT, but I needed it rarely. Don't know which layout it is on FM6.
    Had to switch from usual layout because my thumb is not as thick as yours and was having miss shifts too often.

    When I do this with an IndyCar or an Endurance Prototype car the car is very sluggish to start and I do have the clutch in as I do with other cars and it works, but it jerks and takes a long time to get up to a certain speed then works normally. Why is this?

      +AR12OutOfContext yeah, i use the bumpers, I just use the right analog stick for a clutch, which is better than this method imo, because you can actually use the stick as a trigger with there being play in the amount of throw you use whilst shifting.

    Well I guess that's one way to use manual w/ clutch, I personally use layout 6 w/ shift up/down inverted, also I do alot of engine braking (slows down quicker) so m w/ c is good for that aswell but you need to be able to tune the diff well to stop the car getting unsettled doing that, but great guide anyway

    Would you recommend switching straight from assists to everything manual like your setup? Or ease into it by taking things off gradually.
    I currently have all assist on bar breaking (abs is on).

    rev match on the downshifts by blipping the throttle and the excess torque from not rev matching wont unsettle the car.

    Been using LB for clutch and my middle finger for braking since FM4. Would take too long to break that habit and use A for clutch now. Was even able to drive without ABS in FM4 using my middle finger for braking, and trying to get back into not using ABS in FM6 and FH3.

    its easier if you have the clutch on the LB button and let the handbrake be as it is on the A button. Use the middle finger for the brakes (LT) and index finger on the clutch (LB). This was your right thumb won't have to do two things at once, every finger gets its one and only task. Besides, it kind of gets more realistic. The left hand represents the left foot, which controls brakes and clutch, while the right hand represents the right foot, which controls the throttle. And you won't have to remap that the handbrake is on the LB in your head and then mapping the clutch into your head as well. Makes the whole process easier and the results better! Btw, that sliding finger thing over A and B will only age the controller a lot faster

    • @Super_GT
      @Super_GT  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +xBuzz996 I disagree. I've clearly posted this video this way because I believe it is the best way to do it. A lot of people have been helped by it but if anyone wants to try it their own way, then that's cool.
      I don't like having LB as clutch because I feel that it's harder to use the brakes accurately when pressing LB at the same time. This is especially the case as I don't use ABS, do you use ABS out of curiousity?
      The right thumb isn't doing two things at once. Sliding your finger across two buttons is one action and an action which is very quick and easy to do. I can't see how it will make the controller 'age faster' either, I've used this technique for years on my xbox controllers and they work fine.
      As for how realistic it is, it really doesn't matter. If I wanted a realistic experience, I would be playing on my Thrustmaster TX racing wheel with the cockpit view. I would rather choose my controller configuration based on what is easiest and most convenient to use.

    • @xBuzz996
      @xBuzz996 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Super GT The thing about having LB as clutch and not braking accurately is just a habit thing. I dont use ABS and I can accurately brake without locking up with my middle finger. It's almost like if you would left foot brake or start using heel-toe downshifting. Takes a time to get use to.
      Your right thumb IS doing 2 things, it presses the clutch and it changes gears, could not be more simple than that. As for ageing faster, maybe i was over exaggerating but I can imagine the buttons can get worn out a lot quicker than usual.
      Sure you can get it realistic by using a wheel but not everyone affords one. I mean it's pretty much the xbox or the wheel you can choose from if you dont have the money ofcourse. And it would be stupid to take the wheel without being able to play anything.
      Like I said before, your way is not easier nor is mine. More of a habit thing. What I am saying is that I THINK, I do not scientifically know, that my way is easier.

    What I use for Manual W/ Clutch on all forza games, I use A is clutch and RB is upshift and LB is downshift. It seems the quickest and easiest to me, but I guess its all about preference.

  • @wickedmartyn
    @wickedmartyn 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know the video is a bit old but.. when changing down with man w/clutch, tap the throttle at the same time you tap X and A, this will rev the engine whilst the clutch is disengaged allowing the engine speed to match the wheel speed, just like a real car, this will stop the rear tires bogging or locking up whilst decelerating, which allows you to downshift while cornering. basically heel and toe downshifts with a controller, use the same controller set up and just blip the throttle as you downshift.

      +0Gotland4Ever0 I havnt used either of them so I can't really give a review of either. I would say though that you don't really need a wheel for this game. If you are playing other games like Project CARS then it might be worth getting a wheel, but not for Forza alone.

    Ok make A button the hand brake & LB the clutch it feels more real & gives proper time to get perfect shifts every time from letting off gas same thing u don't have to but it shaves milliseconds. Also u can do it on turns just tap the gas a little to regain traction and proceed if ur in the right gear yes u should do as much as possible before the turn but u get much better times if u can learn when to shift for each part of the map and then make those perfect drifty turns that the auto players think u cheated u can also double clutch almost shorter shift by tapping the clutch for w red line near the middle top of the gear depending on ur ratio especially one with a slower back end gear that takes a while to hit its power band, well then it when u do this & u get a small boost that's almost like nas lmao. I can get the lead on a car that u otherwise wouldn't be able to lol. I love manual with clutch but I keep assists on cuz it feels too soapy road otherwise lol. Not realistic when the roads an oil slick. But anyway it plays well enough I suppose w/assist so. No one believes me about the manual clutch even my gear head friends don't use it they use automatic n it pisses me off when I wreck n they don't cuz they have 100% assist on everything autobreaks slows u down when you don't need it but they get perfect laps to make up for it. Compared to the drift addict who's sliding through turns and ur either bold or old but there's no bold and old drivers and pilots. I tweaked the quote a bit to match cars

    I'm seriously considering a wheel for this game having never owned one before nor had much interest in racing games but I've been playing forza a lot lately and i don't think the controller cuts it. I know the benefits of a wheel and i'll go with the G29 as its in my price range.Question i have though is it worth it to a casual gamer?

    • @Super_GT
      @Super_GT  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +shutinyanks I can't answer that question because I don't know how much you play/enjoy the game. What I will say though is that a wheel doesn't make you quicker in this game. If you want a realistic and authentic experience then yes, a wheel is good but there are better games out there for wheel use.
