the peaker plant story is under stated. you dont need renewable energy to benefit from megapacks. megapacks eliminate the need to ramp up and down peaker plants everyday. the cost of the plant, labor, and administrative overhead. the power utility in my area is using the megapack for this reason. we dont have renewables on our grid and the megapacks have already paid for themselves.

We in California have extra electricity from all our green power, maybe we could send it to Texas.

California should give powerwalls to homeowners and businesses that are willing to participate to create a distributed virtual power plant and reduce demand. They would not be paid for power used but they would get reduced power bills for hosting the powerwall and have emergency backup power. The backup power could be really important for businesses, police stations, and firehouses.

it's probably less expensive to use mass energy storage in megabuck, economy of scale.

California has a program called the Self-Generation Incentive Program
for adopting a variety of technologies, including batteries but demand will always outstrip funding. However, the other commenter is right that utility-scale storage is more cost-effective which is why there are procurement requirements for utilities. It’s also more reliable and CalISO (the grid operator) requires the batteries to be able to consistently discharged for 4 hours to be a source they count towards their supply. We’re currently at about 6GW of utility battery storage. If you go to CalISO’s website you can see them charging and discharging throughout the day on their dashboard.

Grid scale battery industry is probably the most important from a decarbonization perspective. Makes 90+% renewable possible.
The LFP revolution makes this affordable and lower impact than a decade ago when people thought it would be grid scale NMC/NCA.

Did the tesla power station help Angleton during this last hurricane? I have family there and they are all impacted, but because of lines being down. Just wondering if the plant helpped fill in for other plants that had issues or if it failed as well.

Please point out that petroleum based power is a form of energy storage... one which is based on an established legacy infrastructure... Generating clean energy may depend on the sun shining or the wind blowing (which happens every day) and that energy can be stored for later use. Batteries stored power is not unlike petroleum that depends on having fuel previously delivered where it can be used by generators.

It's time to split up Tesla. As we saw from the firing of the supercharger team Elon can't be trusted with all of it. Each division should have it's own CEO and Elon should only have the robot, AI, robo taxi one. That's what he seems to care about. Let someone else run the Automotive and Power companies. Simi should be part of Automotive and Superchargers should be part of the Power products company. There would still be synergy because they would buy products and services from each other.

If you don't trust Elon don' invest in TSLA stock.
If you want to preserve Tesla as an innovator don't tear Tesla apart.
I think your talking about organizing as a conglomerate where a parent company owns and operates multiple diverse businesses or divisions. Examples are 3M GE and Honeywell International.
Currently then is a Shift away from conglomerate structure:
Many large conglomerates are breaking up or selling off divisions to focus on core competencies and improve shareholder value. This trend is evident in recent actions by companies like GE, Johnson & Johnson, Toshiba, and DuPont. HP was once a sizable conglomerate. Now it is a single company and yes the synergy is lost.
These splits are generally driven by people attempting to manipulate the company to win on wall street with near term profits. Good for them. Bad for the company.

I don’t think they need to be split, but Elon should be fired as CEO.
The ignorance with firing the supercharger team and him threatening the company by redirecting graphics card resources to another company is truly all anyone needs to see that he’s a liability at this point.
