I was fortunate enough to see the Tedeschi Trucks Band recreate the MD&E album at Lockn' in 2015, using their 12-piece band, and also including everybody from Cocker's band who was still alive (I'm pretty sure), plus a few extra musicians (Chuck Leavell, Chris Robinson). There was a TON of people on that stage, and it was fucking AWESOME!

Leon back in the day, introduced her as his Delta Lady. They both had out of control egos. He actually tried to upstage Willie at one of his 4th of Jul picnics. Maybe the one at Texas A&M.
Honestly, I don't know what to make of Rita Coolidge. I heard Leon say that she thought everything he wrote was about her, and he gave examples of Hummingbird and Delta Lady, and he said they were not written about her. I also thought she milked attention by her relationship with Kris Kristofferson. To me, she seem self-worshipping. I've never been a fan, sorry.
I will say that on the Mad Dogs tour Joe would actually refer to her as, “the delta lady” So clearly Leon either told him that or Rita did. But even in 1970 she was known as Delta Lady. Does it mean it was written about her? No but it still could be

He tried to upstage Cocker on the Mad Dogs tour as well but he was out of his depth with that one.
