Sir Stuart, does mirror respond to high temperature after it dries any differently than your superbase, black 3.0, white 2.0/3.0 or, Titan, for instance, or a standard acrylic clear nail polish? I have read the very clear warnings you have provided, thank you, I was just wondering at bit further - some installations I envision might get very hot in the sun.
I do use this to paint miniatures and it's one of my go to paints. I look for reasons to add it to minis. I even went back and touched up some older ones I thought would benefit from the extra shine like a clockwork dragon.
You mentioned miniture painters so I have to ask, how does this react with gloss varnishes? Does the varnish kill the mirror effect like every other chrome paint?
It’s insane how mirrored this paint is! It gives most airbrush paints a run for their money. I will definitely be pitting this paint against my personal fav Alclad chrome paint
This product looks incredible, I have tried a lot of silvers when custom painting, generally best results when applied over black base, assume this is no different as best results on the dark dog...but this looks great when applied with brush! If I wore a mask I take it I could put this through an airbrush and clean with thinners ? Great vid
Pingpong balls are usually made of nitrocellulose. It's possible that the solvent in the paint may slightly dissolve the surface, making it a bit rough. I suppose if you sprayed the ball with a gloss acrylic before applying the paint you might get a better result, since best results appear to on smooth nonporous surfaces.
Very cool stuff, Stuart! I'm thinking of painting a bike frame. I'll probably need to coat with a 2 part hard clearcoat to protect the mirror finish. Any advise on what I should use there that will be compatible with the MIRROR?
I want to see the inside surface of a smooth piece of glass painted with this stuff, using it as if you were silvering a real mirror. I think it would be great. How about creating a space blanket by painting one side of some transparent PET film? Great video. I wish TH-cam was smart enough to recommend this to me. I've been searching for metalic paint for ages.
I wonder if it might work even better to do a first coat in black, or even white, on surfaces that don't get coverage easily. I know that works to really show off the colors of colorshift paints so maybe it could also make a good base for mirror.
Full on war mode with autocorrect today. Had to delete and resubmit this several times. I used to decompose the adhesive from plastic, mylar lined coffee bags by soaking in piping hot bleach water. Teasing the corner and catching the two layers and then pulling them apart allows the mylar layer between to be exposed. These seperated layers are placed in a half full water bottle and shook with as much vigor as possible to tear all the vapor deposited aluminum to micro fine glitter size. But the adhesive and bleach must be cleared with many settling and rinsing sessions. You get what looks like silver spray paint but it's even more responsive to the slightest shearing forces in the fluid. The extreme thinness is also what allows the flakes to settle into a nearly perfect 2d plane with little texture. I presume you have witnessed this exact phenomenon. This gives the mirror effect. Also even responds the thermal gradients from your fingers on the container. Fun stuff. I never tried to commercialize this since it was water based. I could not remove the water without surface tension collapsing and adhering the flake to itself so strongly that upon attempting to wet it with non-water based vehicles rendered it to dust and gave a dull silver finish. Of course, I was in prison at the time and most of my research materials were recycled from trash or smuggled in as contraband. If necessity is the mother of invention then prison and unlimited time is mother on steroids and Red Bull. I am no longer in prison and so progressed to prototyping my own X-ray fluorescence spectrometers. And Covid-19 has blessed me with more unlimited R&D time.
I'm a little late to the party, but I was really interested in this mirror paint! I don't live in a well-ventilated apartment though, and given I live with two cats that like to watch me paint I'm guessing this wouldn't be a great product to use. It looks amazing though!
Would the PVA glue also be best if painting on a canvas? I’m looking at a lot of your unique paints and building an idea in my head for a piece. If I PVA sealed a canvas would that affect any of the other paints you make that I would also be using with the mirror solvent?
love it. I remember you have the blackest black, the pinkest pink and now the mirroriest mirror. I love it and I have to have it, this. Tell me, please--I know that I can use your acrylics in resin, but this--since it's a solvent--will it work to be used in epoxy resin? You could definitely use it to paint castings once cured, but I'm interested in seeing if you can use it to color resin while in the pot. Thank you, Mr. Semple, in advance.
Two questions? What is the durability of the painted surface? Something that goes that thin doesn't seem like it would take much abuse. What would be the recommended sealing product to put over it? He mentioned painting ceramic pieces with it, which makes me wonder, Is the product actually metallic? Could it withstand being fired, and would it still be mirror-like?
I want to paint the inside of a reflector that goes on top of a hot light I use on set. Was thinking about painting it with your 4.0 black first and then the mirror paint. Can this paint handle heat from an HMI light bulb? Or should just use with LED that doesn’t get hot? Do you think the best way to get the most reflective source is painting black first and then paint on the mirror? Reflector currently has a cream white automotive paint on it. Thanks!
It sticks to most surfaces, but it scratches off easily, and can't hold up to flexing. It needs to be a very smooth and rigid surface, and you can protect it with a very clear, glossy topcoat.

WOW- ok- wow- that's amazing--
Very cool stuff, Stuart! I'm thinking of painting a bike frame. I'll probably need to coat with a 2 part hard clearcoat to protect the mirror finish. Any advise on what I should use there that will be compatible with the MIRROR?
How did the bike work out?
I love the sahde being thorwn so much XD. I really want to use this on my Gunpla models.
So pleased to find your channel. I come here from Cloe Rose. She tested your paint too. Looks like wonderful stuff!
I wonder if it might work even better to do a first coat in black, or even white, on surfaces that don't get coverage easily. I know that works to really show off the colors of colorshift paints so maybe it could also make a good base for mirror.
I was just about to comment this. I wonder if anyone tried it.
How stable is this once cured? Can the object be outside or will it fade? Can it be sealed and maintain the mirror?
Honestly SO excited to get some of this to paint cosplay armour I plan to make from plastic 💚💚
I need my bean brush 😂
Thank you! So fun 🤩
It looks amazing though!
you bring me so much joy
Love that colour, ordered two bottles today :)
Would the PVA glue also be best if painting on a canvas? I’m looking at a lot of your unique paints and building an idea in my head for a piece. If I PVA sealed a canvas would that affect any of the other paints you make that I would also be using with the mirror solvent?
I had the same question, can't seem to find an answer. I guess experimenting would be the only way to check for compatibility and durability.
I love this. The man's an artistic genius. Doesn't know what ping pong backs are made of. Best video on the internet.
Bloody hell that stuff coats well. Thats lovely
Wow, great video, I've just bought some... 👏👌👍
What's your experience with it?
@@kiukle hi there, I haven't used it yet, I will have to try it the weekend!! 👍🏻
Thanks!
Is there anything you can’t paint with this? Would it work over acrylic? Just wondering as you said it’s a solvent. Thanks! This is awesome!
How resilient is this stuff? Can it stand up to being touched or handled? or does it need to be sealed with something?
This is only for decorative purposes, don't bother with anything else.
It sticks to most surfaces, but it scratches off easily, and can't hold up to flexing. It needs to be a very smooth and rigid surface, and you can protect it with a very clear, glossy topcoat.
How might this hold up if applied to somewhat flexible surfaces like eva foam cosplay pieces or vinyl upholstery?
