We used to fish that spot in the early 70's before they installed that fence. you could walk right up to the spillway and fish off the bridge, you weren't supposed to be up there for safety reasons I suppose. you could see the security guard coming down the road , we would just hide .Security would shine his light and drive on by. With 6 of us and 1 security guy. he wasn't stupid. He knew we were there. We always cleaned up after ourselves . Caught more fish than we could carry. Long walk along the shoreline back to Yorktown. The good old days.
Me and my buddy really want to wade back there. I know the walk will suck but I have been wanting to go there for some years now just want to know where to park and how to wade back there. Nice vid!
Cought somthing freelining a finger mullet in the hole close to the poles that busted the line, it moved slow so i think it was a saddle back flounder or a big stingray , never saw him. Theres some big fish there i mean BIG.
I actually helped build that spillway. If you're on land you're definitely trespassing. If you're in your boat or kayak you're okay. They used to have a truck that would come by and randomly check. They would then contact the game wardens. I'm not sure if they still patrol. They said that's it's a liability issue.
@@FishSlimeTV I caught a boat load of blue crabs one evening. I was in heaven until I cooked and tasted them. They tasted like silt. I guess because the discharge keeps the bottom stored up.
If this area is like any of the marsh/swamps & other brackish estuaries that I've fished in southeastern texas & louisiana then you'll know these are fisheries for lots of saltwater fish. You can catch freshwater / saltwater fish in many of these areas but I'm not understanding what the "controversy" of this particular waterway is? So what is it that makes this place different. I've fished over in Beaumont, Neederland, & Pt Arthur Texas..... and across the Interstate 10 corridor of South Louisiana. This area you are in are the places that determine the health of the fisheries...... thanks for sharing this one... peace
@@diggy-d8w Man preciate you for watching. It's a local spot that some anglers frown upon because the speckled trout and redfish hatchery is just on the other side of the dam. Before they really buttoned up that fence line some people would trespass into that area and fish. There's certain stigma people have about this particular spot because some assume that you're just hopping the fence. I've witnessed numerous of people getting caught by the game warden lol. Thx again for watching!
You mean the State of Texas has a Fish Weir at this place? In about 2002 was the last time I was in S.Texas but I lived over in Pt.Arthur for years & never knew the State was doing that? Now I gotta go research all of this SH!Te//// thanks

I lived here in corpus 37 years and never fished the spill. Is the only way to get there in a kayak or you can drive?
you can walk to but good luck
Ya you could definitely walk but rn the tide is really high, I don't suggest it personally.
That's why they call it MUD , muddy all the way.
@matter3232 hella
Where do you launch the yak?
Mud bridge
hi, what is the foam on water?
That foam is created from all the water the dam is pushing out

Oh the Game Wardens definitely drive up and check your license and check your fish. Never once received a fine for trespassing.

Oh wait I heard you say spider the hell with that I’m good

Just took my yak out there last Sunday tides are crazy high right now
