I was in lot of dilemma where and how to buy a Veena until I watched this Video, this video is really informative and helpful. Thank you very much Maam! Maam, one question- in previous comments you mentioned that he does not have a musical instrument store, is this his residence where you interviewed Mr Anand Rao
I want a good quality veena with light jackfruit wood and good sound quality. I am staying in Bangalore . Please suggest a good place from where I shoukd buy veena?
Thanks for this informative video. Was wondering, as the Veena ages, are there any changes to its tone? What sort of maintenance does a Veena require? What sort of temperature is ideal for storing a Veena? Is a Veena like a Violin, where research has shown that regular playing of the Violin imporves its tone over age? Thank you.
Yes ,an aging/ aged veena is a treasure. It s, tone and vitality is unbelievably beautiful. Room temperature is ideal. But whatever the conditions keeping the fret board neatly packed helps. The veena when played regularly does have an amazing tone. Do watch my video on maintenance of the veena. th-cam.com/video/ERpOW7jMKN4/w-d-xo.html
@@malaviswanathan Thank you and your maintenance video had very good insights. Do the frets/melams ever get out of tune after years of playing. Is that why maintenance is required on them? Do they actually remove all the frets, repair the melam and then replace the frets with accurate spacing? I guess this must involve some kind of heat process and moulding process? Probably the only instrument I can think of that has this kind of structure. What exactly is the melam (black base) made of? I hope I said the terms right, if not pardon me. I have an old Veena at home and trying to gather more knowledge. Thank you for your patience.
@@melodychest9020 with constant playing and weathering effects ,the wax tends to push down, thereby causing harmony discrepancies. Which is why people who play regularly will have to get their melam / fretboard redone every 3 years.

I have come across one and it was so aesthetic with a captivating tone! What we have mentioned in the video about Tanjore veena being preferred has nothing to take away from other veenas. Just that Tanjore veena is made on a large scale. Thanks for your input.
🙏. Anandhi I appreciate your concern. After having given this a deep thought I decided to talk in English, because I strongly feel that the instrument is larger than the boundaries of language, borders and countries. I have many, other language students spread across the world ,who learn the veena. We have to respect this larger interest for the instrument.
Very informative! Wish this video was available before I bought mine.

What will be the ideal weight of a veena?
Ideally a veena weighs 6-8 kgs. The lighter it is, the tonal quality is better
How will get it and it's available
