Thank you! Yes, it's amazing how spending triggers creep into our routines without even realizing it.

Going out whatsoever is my spending trigger...unless it’s just the grocery store.

at last i found someone who gets direct to the point, thanks Tess .. your words are great, enlighted me how we are deceived subconiously as i browse alot on youtube, and i returned back to buying makeup and bodycare products after stopping doing that for three years.. yeh, it is boredom ..

My biggest trigger is having to much time. I sometimes get to where I am going really early and the only thing I can think to do it "window shop" Which inevitably turns into me making at least one purchase. I need some ideas about what else I can do to fill that time. Sometimes I don't have a choice but to get to where I am going an hour early.

Time! That's another big trigger I didn't think of, yes! Make a list on your phone of ideas you could do to fill that time. Mine would be to read a book, or write in my journal about literally anything (sometimes it's good to get your brain chatter down on paper, or play sudoku or another brain puzzle. If you can find a quiet place to sit and work on something/distract your mind by making it fully focus on that thing, that's always going to be the best use of your time!

My biggest spending issue has come from living in an isolated region (tiny Pacific island north of Papua New Guinea) and I have nothing else to do or spend money on, so I tend to just buy stuff out of boredom or FOMO when I *could* be saving that money instead.

I just listened to a great podcast episode on pain and pleasure. What we associate pain with (FOMO and boredom) we run away from, and we fun to what we associate with pleasure (spending money on new things) but if you think about it... spending money in the long-term doesn’t provide pleasure... it provides pain. Pleasure maybe in the short-term, but pain at the end of the day. Why do we associate spending with pleasure? Because the advertisers and retailers want us to believe spending is pleasurable. So the only person who can change this thinking is YOU! Check out The Life Coach School Podcast. It’s amazing and you can reshape your thinking when it comes to anything you’re struggling with!
