    This opening is so jam packed with exposition, it's honestly unreal. We learn literally everything we need to know about Doc Brown from one tracking shot: he's obsessed with time, he's an inventor, his inventions don't often work, his mansion burned down, he has a dog named Einstein, somebody stole plutonium and - oh wait - there it is under the table.
    All that information is given to you subliminally in less than 4 minutes before you're even introduced to any of the main characters.

  • @alexanderpytko5394
    @alexanderpytko5394 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    The original opening was much different. I've read how it was supposed to be in the original script. They shot part of it when Eric Stoltz was playing Marty.
    It starts off with a light flashing off a video projector. It's a classroom filled with students watching a documentary about atomic testing going on in the 1950's. There's a reflection of a mushroom cloud off a pair of reflective porshe sunglasses being worn by Marty. Marty is listening to his walkman in class while taping his foot, not paying attention to the film. But the teacher catches him, she removes his sunglasses to see that he's got his eyes closed. She takes off his headphones, where he opens his eyes and smiles weakly at her. She tells him, "Detention!" Marty reports to Strickland's office. Strickland takes Marty's walkman, puts it in a wooden vice attached to his desk and crushes it with the vice. He hands it back to Marty,
    Strickland: That's number 3, isn't it?
    Marty: Four.
    Strickland: You don't like school, do you, McFly?
    Marty:(being a wise guy) Oh no, sir, I LOVE school.
    Strickland: You've got a real attitude problem, you know that? You're a slacker, McFly. You've got aptitude but you don't apply yourself. You're just like your father. He was a slacker, too.
    Strickland tells Marty that Marty has 2 weeks detention for slacking off and having an attitude problem starting this afternoon. Marty tells Strickland that he has a band audition this afternoon but Strickland just says, "Too bad, McFly. I guess this isn't your day." Later, in detention with Strickland in charge, Marty figures out a way to get out. He attaches some gum to a matchbook and uses a rubber band to slingshot it up to the ceiling near a smoke detector. He takes the lens from the projector and uses it and his shades to magnify sunlight onto the matchbook causing it to ignite setting off the fire alarm and the sprinklers(one of which sprays Strickland in the face). Marty borrows a skateboard from someone, promising to return it. He skateboards out of the school and across town, grabbing onto cars and gets to the YMCA where the auditions are being held, makes it just in time for his band's audition and of course is rejected. Later, when he and Jennifer are walking around the part of town where the clocktower is, Doc shows up in an RV. He invites them and it's filled with clocks(just as we see here in this video) all in perfect sync. When they all chime at once, Doc says that he loves that sound and reminds Marty about meeting him at the mall at 1:15 am. Marty also mentions to Jennifer that he met Doc a few years ago and that Doc hired him to sweep out his garage and that he pays him $50 a week. He mentions that Doc's cool and fun to hang around with.
    The shots at the school were filmed for sure but not the scenes where the clocktower is because when they made the movie, they shot all the 50's scenes at the clocktower first and then aged the set for the 80's shots. There was no way they could've done that all over again for the Michael J. Fox scenes. They recycled the sequence of grabbing onto cars while skateboarding when Marty's late for school.

    -In Part 1, there's no music playing when the title card appears onscreen. Just the sound of clocks ticking. In Parts 2 and 3, there is music playing when the title cards appear.
