They could easily brag about their talent superiority over many hype groups this days, but instead they make a song about Toxic Confidence and Narcissism calling out today's celebrity standards, that's genius in my opinion.

Many people are missing the point of the song. A lot of people think it's a girl power song. When its a critique on instsgram culture

I've always loved Dreamcatcher because they push creativity. This isn't anything that I've heard from them, but it's still them. First listen you could easily sum it up as sort of a hype track but there's so many layers musically, vocally, lyrically and concept wise that you really have to nerd out to get it all. They always impress. Check out the B-side: Rising, you're welcome in advance.

After watching and listening this mv and song for multiple times, i come to understand. This song has 2 faces. One, if you are not a confident person, this song is for you to be confident in what you are and what you do. Two, and this is what i think it really meant, this song just exposes the lies and fakeness of beauty, fashion, lifestyle of the internet personas. It is nothing but just a show. At the back of the screen, they are just people like you and me, just wanting any attention pure or toxic.
I love this song. It is very different from what DC usually does. But it is still Dreamcatcher.
The b-sides are awesome. Looking forward to your reaction to it.

OOTD is a criticism of the roles played in the music industry and how narcisism is prevalent in the social media. Dreamcatcher become the villains for a change and give us face, attitude, fashion and fake fighting. And they do this with a great music and superb choreo. And they obviously do this to up their stats. If that isn't the most Punk thing ever, I don't know what is.

Looking deeper into the lyrics and visuals is when ppl realize this is a big middle finger to the fake beauty industry and the social media. Everything edited, staged, photoshopped, covered by makeup....
5:28 Visualize, express myself more and there is a non-edited natural shot of Yoohyeon which is not something that can get into a real K-Pop video normally...
Anyway Rising is also something you need to check out, really strong rock metal song. And Shatter is like an experimental EDM Rock track

The fact that this song/mv are SATIRE/Social critique, calling out all the fake , insta-people, influencers, etc. ❤
While at the same time making it a flex ❤
Whole album is a big SLAP in the face. Its soooo different and yet that makes it even more Dreamcatcher ❤
Handong and Gahyeon are HELLA AGRESSIVE in this 😍
SuA on that bike... nah im good OMFG😍
JiU letting us know she is a GODDESS is FACTS❤
    Siyeon... bruh...
Bloohyeon needs to PUNCH ME IN THE FACE AND END MY LIFE ( lets be honest she already did )
DAMI TOLD ME TO GET THE F**K OUT OF HER WAY 😍😍😍 YES MA'AM I WILL F**K ALL THE WAY OFF ❤
Near the ending when Jiu says the spotless line... the facial expression she makes... SHE ENDED ME

they are so unique, rock queens, they are in another level. And the girl that you live the vocals is Yoohyeon. She is 1 of the best vocalist in DC. She has an amazing range!

You could think this is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. I have no idea if my theory is correct, but the fact that the album is called VersuS VillainS makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, maybe useless instagram influencers posting videos of their outfit of the day, which also promotes fast fashion.
The fact that fashion is moving ever faster is actually the most destructive industry to the planet apart from the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up.
The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback.
It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song.
The music is highly interesting as well. There still is rock there, but dialed back. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is punk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.

Handong's scene with her bruised legs in front of the mirror is so impactful, idols pushed so hard while also being obsessed with their looks with a pretty dress on... they to try to hide it but it's still there 🤯

I always love seeing you react to Dreamcatcher because I feel that you explain a lot of the same feelings I have watching them experiment and try different things.
Gonna Copypasta this response (my own) since I think its important for this song:
I'm a huge fan of this comeback! And not just because Dreamcatcher Slayed.
On the surface this song feels like a lot more of a mainstream, self-confidence song, which we've definitely seen a lot of in recent years (and it's never a bad thing to have more self-confidence songs). But after having watched it a few times, there's something distinctly unsettling and ominous about this song & MV.
I'm 100% certain this is a critique of something. The best theory I've seen someone (cant find the comment unfortunately for crediting =( ) bring up is that is a critique of narcissism on social media, which I think makes a lot of sense considering the direction of this MV. We've got lots of standard vanity shots (girl on car, girl on bike, girl in store), and then all these shots of the behind the scenes of photoshoots & editing, sort of showing that a lot of things we see on social media are faked/edited. We see Handong in a photoshoot who, from the waist up, looks perfect. But when we see her legs, they're covered in bruises (2:01). We also see the "fight" between Handong & Yoohyeon and Sua & Siyeon, but when the action is cut, Yoohyeon & Handong go back to being friends, maybe something about staged conflict between people (idk throwing spaghetti at the wall somewhat x'D)
Then we get into the lines. "Popping the Champagne, Look at My Necklace, Wearing my Black Dress, Cruising my Rollie, Cash in the Backseat," again things that we see a lot on Social media. And then its followed by the line "We call it so sweet." and then Dami's rap I think really brings it home with the Narcissism point where her lines come off as very much 'f*ck off, I'm above everyone, I'll do what I want, even if it hurts other people.' Specifically her line "Driving on the highway, Drunken everyday. How is it, do you feel like a monster?"
And then we have this sort of overarching theme of them being watched by other people. We have people tuning into 'DreamChat' and the mysterious 'ymenehcra' (which people have pointed out is 'archenemy' spelled backwards) sending various strange messages throughout the video that say "Do you believe in the power of the crown?", and sort of asking what lengths will we go to "get the crown." We also have all these close up shots of the girls in the behind the scenes with this strange, almost fish-eye bluring as if we're watching them through a hidden camera (see 4:51 in the video for the start of those shots). And finally the camera shots starting at 6:25 where Ji-u 'turns us off' as if we were the cameraman the whole time and they all disappear.
Also want to shout out @zebles200 for bringing this up: "Also in the lyrics JiU calls herself Venus and Nephthys. Venus is the Roman goddess of beauty, sex, and love, which makes sense for a song like this. Nephthys, however, is an Egyptian goddess closely associated with death, decay, darkness, and mourning. In early stories she was believed to be barren and could turn into a vulture." Which I feel like lends itself to this narcissism critique narrative a lot.
Idk, as I said I'm throwing a lot of spaghetti at the wall, but I 100% think this song is a lot darker than a lot of people realize.

    dreamcatcher \:D/
at surface level, you can view the lyrics as being about self confidence but usually there's a deeper twist. imo ootd's lyrics are almost a satire on the kpop/entertainment industry. both the lyrics and the imagery are so overboard and so not them that you almost have to view it as sarcasm. as for the song, they surely haven't gone to this avenue before lol

Hey there, i always follow some of your reaction videos, of course also dreamcatcher, as they are one of my top 5 k pop female groups out there, i just notice that not once you ever mention a members name in your reactions, just try to know some of the members name, their are 7 members and yet, when Yoohyeon makes her run, you only mention you like her run without ever mentioning her name at all, it adds more flavor to a reactions if you will somehow get to know them better, lets just start with the name, kinda like your reading a story or a novel, without knowing a single name in them, try it this is just an opinion and i just only brought it now, and its been quite a while now since you been reacting to our girls, that goes to other groups you might want to dive into the future, trust me like I said it kinda adds flavor to what you are doing. Still great job Steven
