- US Air Force F-15EX Eagle II fighter jet and several F-15C Eagle aircraft are at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, United States, conducting Integrated Test and Evaluation for the Two F-15 EX's. F-15EX Eagle II fighter jet assigned to the 53rd Wing, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, F-15C Eagle aircraft assigned to the 123rd Fighter Squadron, Portland Air National Guard Base. The new F-15EX aircrafts are at Nellis AFB to test how effective and suitable the aircraft is for future use in our US Air Force.

I’ve loved the F-15 since I enlisted in the USAF in 1974. Used to hang out at the flight line when I could. I’ve seen so many take offs and landings and where I live in Fort Worth I’m near the landing pattern for the Alliance Airport and see F-15’s,18’s,F-22’s and F-35’s every day. I’m so glad the Air Force has decided to buy the EX to replace the high hour F-15’s in the inventory. I’m sure it will be an improvement over the F-15E’s.

My pops and I saw these guys as we were leaving Las Vegas. Probably around 12 F-15s. So awe inspiring to see these incredible machines slicing through the air.

We didn’t get a “new” F14 but we atleast got a new Eagle! This is next level. F22 and F35 lead the way with this bomb truck behind it. Well done USAF.

I agree, the stealth can clear out the surface to air threat and the F-15EX can waltz right in and launch bombs and the F-35's can help with the targeting through data link allowing for extremely rapid munitions delivery. Damn they took non stealth and made it extremely relevant again. There are some damn sharp people working for this GREAT NATION we live in and depend on our military to keep us safe and free . GO USA GO. I would bet that the Navy is done this same thing, except using the F-15EX, they are using the F-18 Super Hornet as the bomb truck.

I am curious as to the avionics fit in the rear pit? There are some external pods similar to the F-15E, but will a dedicated WSO be assigned? And a long wait for GE to have the F110 used in the USAF Eagle is over.

The GE F110 howlings is reminiscent of the Tomcats
They're using the GE F110-129's which is 29K lbs. in AB mode. GE also have the 132's which in full AB mode is over 32K lbs. of thrust. MORE POWER... MORE HOWLING...

Yea, the last I checked the kill ratio is 104:0 all F-15's that have gone down were due to pilot or electrical issues, and collisions. They haven't actually been shot out of the sky.

On January 30, there was a single air battle between a pair of F-15C and a pair of MiG-25PD. The Iraqis attacked first, the Iraqi pilot Al-Sammurai noted the explosion of a rocket very close to the F-15. Another pair of F-15s came to the rescue, after which the Iraqi planes turned around and began to return to the airfield, the Needles fired 10 air-to-air missiles at the MiG-25, without achieving a single hit. After the end of the war, the Iraqis found the wreckage of the F-15, which Al-Sammurai got into, after which they marked the application as confirmed.

I really with they refurbished and modernized the F14 platform. One of the most versatile jets ever.

That aircraft is too heavy on maintenance.
You would probably have to re-engineer the whole F14 with newer super cruise engines from the F22 and all the newer modern electronics to the latest greatest.

The F15 remains king of the skies.
During initial F-22A tactics development out of Edwards and over the Nellis ranges against F-15Cs, F-15C pilots flying F-22As decimated squadrons of F-15Cs as if it were a sport. At no time did any of the F-15C pilots see the Raptor approaches into No Escape Zone weapons parameters over many weeks. In one run, 4 F-22As killed 12 F-15Cs and F-16Cs in 2 min 22 seconds without ever being seen.

Is there any easy way externally to ID an EX? Compared to a E or C? Bumps, Antennae, etc…
The little "bumps" just aft and to the sides of the rear seat I believe are unique to the F-15EX, I know the C/D model doesn't have those and I am pretty sure they're not on the E model either.
Well they seem to have covers or shields on the nozzles at the back end. E models don’t have that. C is quite different looking and single seat anyway.

This is a good idea , it’s a great plane now updated and will be very useful in a war, like he said keep the enemy busy while the F35 F 22 go in and do their thing . I still think we need to keep the F22 it’s also a good plane and maybe they can make version that is cheaper to maintain forget the radar evading skin and go conventional it’s a great design like the F15. We’ll need everything we can fly in the next ww III
The "next WWIII, will have no need of manned aircraft of any kind. lt's also important recognize that it will have very few survivors, either, especially humans. The only "winners" will possibly be some small, burrowing rodents and bugs.
That is a tandem-seat jet but the USAF does not want someone in the backseat of the F-15EX.

With a capability of Mach 2-and-a-Half, ie, 2.5, this is the Fastest Fighter Jet as a Multirole One (the Lockheed Martin SR71 is a dedicated Bomber and Not Multirole, in spite of attaining Mach 3)

Jump an F-22? How do you propose they do that? Anyway, the F-22 is all about Netcentric warfare.......nobody can "jump" an F-22. The F-22s have all the assets of the USAF at their disposal. They will know well in advance when anyone is close enough to be a threat. My guess would be that the new F-15s have exactly the same capability.....just not in a stealthy package.

Going to miss seeing those mighty single-seat F-15Cs, I love that plane. The USAF desperately needs to replace them, they have flown most of the Eagle fleet to the brink.
We spent $18 billion just in RDT&E on the F-22A and were never allowed to go into Full Rate Production. SECDEF Gates claims it was because of costs. Interesting. As if they never did a study on what it would cost to try to extend the F-15C fleet service life, try to operate less than 1/3 the Raptors ordered without a multi-year spare parts sourcing, while Grey Eagles all timed-out. That was deliberate sabotage, and many people who worked with Gates dating back decades say they always suspected him of being a KGB asset. He also said Russia and China didn’t have anything like the Raptor, only to have China officially fly the J-20 during his visit there, while Russia flew T-50 prototypes within the same timeframe.
Now the USAF is complaining about the age of the fleet, lack of enough fighters for the Euro and Pacific theaters, with early Lot F-22As barely able to hit 50% MC rates. Only good news is coming from F-35A, which is being produced in large numbers and exceeded all other fighters in readiness rates in 2020, even the F-16C and A-10C.
Yep, we overflew the life expectancy of that plane like crazy. I worked them for 12 years. Always having to call engineers at Warner - Robins AFB, Ga. (F-15 Depot) and have them evaluate structural defects we had never seen before. I felt bad for the sheet metal troops. Those guys had so many jobs to close out it was crazy.

@@LRRPFco52 I think so, but I think I was deployed or at the Academy. I remember the Cops running their car under an F-15. Those pictures are on the internet somewhere. There were water intrusion problems in one a D model that came back with half of its vertical stab. Also, another one shelled a motor on takeoff and caught on fire and burned to the ground. There were so many of those things that happened I can't remember them all. One hit a deer on the runway and on and on. Who could forget the "possible sniper" and we had to clear the flight line and stay inside until he was found? I better stop.

Forward quadrant Missile Approach Warning System sensors. They are also mounted on the rear tail booms for rear quadrant coverage. MAWS are a common feature on 4.5 Gen Fighters. They make it a little more draggy though since the airframe wasn’t designed from scratch to integrate them like on the F-22A. Rafale and Typhoon have similar MAWS sensors if you look closely at them.
With the JSF series, they took the F-22’s MAWS and expanded it into the 6 DAS IR cameras, which provide longer wave IR situational awareness to the pilot, fused with the EOTS and AESA Radar and EW suite.
