Cool channel. Retired tug engineer here who has spent a lot of time on the back deck making and breaking tow and all of the other stuff that we do. Stay out of the bight.
More details of the process in making and breaking tow would be really cool for new be deck hands like myself. Thanks for any info you can provide and the expierence I get from it. I will pay it forward as well.
Yup, gotta make your bones in this career to make it up the line. The best sailors come up the hawse pipe. I did my share of coastal stuff. From the arctic to bay of Fundy. Good luck, stay safe.
I got curious about life on a tugboat because I write music and stories for kids. We have a song about a Tugboat Captain (who makes music, of course), and his adventures at sea. I am trying to develop the character and publish more content about him, and your vids give a great view into life on the boat. Nice work.
Yeah I agree! Check out some of my other tugboat videos that have more of that in there. I just had a bunch of clips from one hitch that I wanted to use so this is what I came up with. I will have another video coming out soon that has more information on this.
You'll be on a towboat deck hands on towboats generally work alot more on deck than a tugboat deck hands with constant tow work and all. I've decked on both and have been a Captain on both throughout the years. You'll know if you can do it after a few hitches and you'll know if you want to do it for a living after a year or so.
Cool vids man, I just started on the Steven Wayne a few months ago. Good suggestion for p90x. Been looking for a good workout routine to keep me in shape for ski/bike season . I’ll give it a shot. Keep it up!
Is your tug based in Norfolk? I spent alot of time on the waters of Norfolk on R/V's for Old Dominion University, and the local wastewater authority. Great vids. Are you going for your mate's licenses?
The company is based in Norfolk but I rarely work there. I’m mostly in New York, and down south around Charleston and Florida. I currently hold a mates license but not exactly sure what the future holds for me at the moment.
I went to mid Atlantic maritime for some of my licenses and certifications. All you need to work on these tugs is a Twic card and ordinary seaman. Anyone can get those and you can apply
Thanks I really appreciate it!! I wish you the best in your line of work! Keep up with the videos! I’ll have a couple coming out soon that involves a long trip up the east coast
