    Powerful instrument. Bach. My hero. Great match. Very elaborately decorated. Both the cathedral and the organ. Thank you for sharing.

    Not an expert but I always think Bach sounds best on these beautiful Baroque organs with their steely tone. Since this one was built during Bach's lifetime you can almost him sitting at this console. Superb interpretation by the way.

      Usually, his music sounds best on old mid-german organs with an unequal temperament (meantone or respectively some kind of a well-tempered temperament) at Chorton or Kammerton. This organ is at a high Chorton (a'≈476hz - originally a'≈473hz) and was originally tuned in meantone temperament (which would always be the best choice!), but was changed to a well-tempered temperament during the 1980s.

      @tobiasstudtheol Thank you!! Afraid that's far too technical for me but I appreciate your time in trying to explain it all to me. All I know is that it sounds fantastic!

      @nickdouglass421 , let's put it easier. In order to get the full impression of a composer's music, you should try to listen to a performance on an instrument, tuning and temperament as close to what we get hands on in the surroundings (time, locality, etc) of the composer.

    A fine performance, as good as any - you maintained the momentum and drama of the piece between the two parts by not pausing before the fugue as was once the common practice, a practice that greatly detracted from the overall unity that Bach (probably?) intended.

    Thank you! One of the best versions I've heard. The organ sound i great. In which system is it tuned? Kirnberger? It's also a good performance, even though I should hav prefered a less pronounced ritardando in baroque music, but it's not a big deal here. Thumb ut on this performance!

    Why the pedal notes haphazardly (inconsistantly) broken and not connected? (Some connected, some not.)

      Robert Gift because it can be incredibly difficult to make the transition entirely smooth when you only have two feet

      Themostamazinguy. I memorized this work in my lateens. I connect all of the notes except for
      "breathing" and phrasing.

    • @robertgift
      @robertgift 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Themostamazinguy The only part I have found difficult in the pedal is the fugue's
      octave jump down to low D. Easy to miss.
      I angle my foot to reach adjacent notes.

    • @Themostamazinguy

    Is this another theme that Bach improvised on and was he challenged to or he liked the theme and chose to improvise on it?
    He was the absolute master of themed improvisations.

    • @niccolomantovani6388
      @niccolomantovani6388 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This wasn't an improvisation challenge,likely he was inspired by the Buxtheude passacaglia in D minor's theme(it's very similar); Bach used to listen to him during his permanence in Lubeck.
