- After almost 3 years of research we are finally buying land in the Philippines to have a future home. As a British family, you'd think it wasn't possible. But we found a way to make the dream happen.
Our names are Jmayel, Sacha & Story. We traveled to the Philippines Siargao island and fell in love with island life, now we want to make that life more permanent.

They said foreigners cant but property there. So, whats the best thing to do if ever we want to buy a small land there?
@@jayneh2006 First never invest more than you can afford to loose. One way most people use is to find 1 or 2 trusted local people, their name will be on the deed of sale. You lease the property for 25 years with an addendum in the lease giving you 25 more. In addition you have the Attorney draw up a special power of attorney giving you rights to change the property or sell it. A LLC is another option.

Well done guys. Story will potentially have her own patch of land when she is older. She can have both sides of the world, UK and Asia. She’s well and truly an island girl. She would be a great asset to Siargao if she choose to be a marine biologist/environmentalist or anything to do with safeguarding nature. Since you already knew the Restrictions of the Philippine Law in not allowing Foreigners to own Lands, the best options for you to do is LEASEHOLD for 25 Years and renewable for another 25 Years. I guess that's enough for you to stay longer in Siargao and fullfill your Plans. BTW, whenever you're walking along Grassy or Jungle like places pls be aware of Snakes, better always bring a Stick or Pole, just in case.

Kinda mind-blowing to look back on. The initial video on Siargao when everything was normal and I thought I was just watching a vlog of a few days before y'all moved on to another country. Then the pandemic hit, the lockdowns, the complete standstill of air travel, the confusion and the panic as thousands got trapped. Then the slowing of life's pace. The sunsets on Makulay resort and that rusting jeep they had, and the cute doggos. Then Eden arriving. Her twilight days and her passing. Then Poppy popped out of nowhere. Then the typhoon and the utter destruction it wreaked on the island. The long-awaited return to family in the UK. Then the road trip. And now this. I've literally watched Story grow up, learn to swim, learn to read.
I am glad that you have decided to make the Philippines your anchor in Asia. I guess Sasha's father living in the Philippines can also be one of the deciding factor. When looking for a property to buy make sure that its not the windy part because in times of typhoon that's going to be the path of the storm.
I'd be so excited to see a compilation of Story's record of the flora and fauna of Siargao Island. She's a little biologist in the making. I hope J and Sasha can help her nurture that interest.

First of all I would like to congratulate you for planning on buying a land in which you don't have to pay for the rent every month or year, and since you have a have a filipina mom which can be a guarantor or a partner on buying properties, it is good and and I' am happy for all of you specially to Story to have your won property and build your own house with 3 bedrooms and plant some tress that can help the land on preventing any damages like lots of Mango's and big tress or a strong tree on the area that which the string wind coming from to be able to atleast penetrate the strong winds and one of yhe strongest trees is mango's...and try I can't wait to see that in the future, Mango's adult would only be in 10 years and find a strong tress to put beside the Mango's too... You have to at least have one area in your house that is made of concrete with very good foundation because in case of big storm that small area will be able to withstand 300 miles per hour wind. It will be your bunker place in your house just like they do in Batanes island.

Be careful if you are near or under a coconut tree because there's always a possibility that a loose coconut may fall, especially if it's windy at 1:46. BTW, does the land you are buying come with a beach, or is it somewhere inland? Take care. God bless you!

I believe J and Sach. They are smart and never acts without knowing the costs. From the statement, they surely formed a corporation, with them as one of the share holders. They're not so smart about Philippines laws they thought it was legal to drive a motorbike with two passengers with only the driver wearing a helmet.

True… I am from the Philippines, I have properties. But, the government is taxing me annually, that I feel I’m “renting” if from the government.

The important thing is Sasha trusted her father who is married to a Filipina.
This property was not acquired through a corporation type that Sasha’s family if part owner. This is acquired through his father being married to a Filipina and the TRUST.
Hopefully, the Filipina wife does not have her own kids from previous relationships.

Tax in Philippines on that land there is probably $100 - $200 annually
Nothing to mention. And if its not paid the Gov does not take it. Its paid with penalty when sold
Ipa raffy tulfo lang pag may problem. mag gawa ng dukumento with attorneys affidavit o power of attorney and witnesses na katibayan na sila ang owner at sa name lang ng filipina mother inlaw nila naka pangalan dahil sila ay foreign puwede siguro at bigyan lang nila ng bayad kung tangapin ng mother inlaw nila na sa kanya ang name ng tittle, hehehe... dahil matanda narin mother inlaw nila at magka problema sila incase may mangyari na diinaasahan dahil si God ang owner sa life at may mag claim na part sa mother inlaw nila E problema na naman diba. 😅😅😅 easy. 👍👍

You can establish a resort wirth hotel there since Siargao is famous as tourist destination both local and even in the whole world. Build a small Nipa Hut on four concrete posts to get the floor off the ground. Wire it with a few outlet s, for a fan, tv, etc. Small bathroom with a concrete block wall and tile floor. Live in this Nipa Hut while you improve the land, and build a larger house.

the plant that story thought was a papaya tree is a actually an edible plant its commonly called niyog niyogan or lubi lubi in visayan dialect its baby leaves or the one thats close is usually cooked in coconut milk...happy to know you finally purchase and own a land in siargao island looking forward for your house building.

Story will have to go to a real school for that. Home schooling will not get her into a college to qualify for a career like that. Especially in the Philippines she will not get into college without finishing high school formally.
Story will be a doctor. You can refer to her as Dr. Story.

actually, the tip of the ferns are edible and a delicacy. we call it in bisaya "pako" then cooked with "gata" or coconut milk. its usually vegan. the "udlot" or the young part of the fern is that edible part. i don't know why its not yet common because it is sooo good. my father is very good at cooking it.

Sorry for only commenting now, our internet hasn't worked for 10 days. Perhaps contact a land surveyor or someone to see if there is water/borehole connected to the land. Also electricity, unless you're going completely off the grid.
A veggie garden would be a must and maybe a pizza/bread oven outside.

Yes we know the world has changed and you were hoping to do some travelling around Europe Etc but you will find places would be very expensive and totally different how you may have hoped for and you will of course been told by your family and friends back in the UK the country is in a state and economy is really bad at least where you are you do not have to contend with Strikes Cost of living crisis etc so stay put and think how lucky you are.

Actually, I have been toying in my mind to put in my comment since time immemorial to somehow suggest to you to purchase a piece of land in Siargao which you can proudly call your own. Let me say...Congratulations to the 8 milers!!! This is life changing and I believe you will not regret it. Isn’t it so exciting? You can now have your own house and your own garden of flowering plants and fruit-bearing trees and vegetables. How wonderful is that to look forward to.

Exciting news guys! Happy for you. Never been to Siargao but it looks good to have a simple and happy life. Here in Thailand I've also made the decision to buy/lease land as a foreigner. No regrets.
Careful when going to woods grassy and bushy areas because of snakes. There are venomous snakes here in the Philippines. And anti venom is difficult to find not even in hospitals in the provinces. Having a cat with you as you've mentioned that you'll probably start gardening will surely help.
