When they announced this game I kept my expectations very low and I was not disappointed. When they showed the gameplay for this I just wasn’t sold on it at all.

they locked the game at 30 fps with worse graphics on systems that can run the game easily maxed out 60 fps. but a game from yrs prior with amazing graphics and shit on inferior gear looks 20 times better while also running at oh 60 fps. this dev team was just full of shit.
This game looks like a direct downgrade in every aspect compared to Arkham Knight, from the moment i saw 1 minute of gameplay i already knew what this was going to be

Arkham Knight had an excuse for empty streets at least. And even then, the streets were actually Hella busy with all the criminals

Fr, the streets were extremely populated and it was cool because all the npcs were enemies, so at the very least that was something to do once you 100% the game, walk around and go ham on some crowds of enemies. With this? Nothing.
Arkham Knight is hands down my favorite Batman game but it was a complete shitshow when it first released on PC. You had people with 1080tis barely getting 30FPS. They eventually fixed it but the backlash was epic.
They all came up with reasons why there were no pedestrians. Did they think people wouldn't buy it this time if they made an excuse again?
That doesn’t excuse the fact that Arkham knight had a bland open world with no NPC’s. You would think with Arkham knight being the last game in the series they would up the ante on the open world.
You will never be able to convince me this didn't start out as a microtransaction riddled live service game, then WB saw Avengers get it's teeth kicked in and panicked and turned the game into what it is now.
_Of course_ it did. It's not debatable. All of the telltale signs exist, including Skill Minimization for combat/gameplay so that "progress" can be based on grinding/paying rather than skill, and multiple in-game currencies...

I played through the GBA and DS Pokémon games, and I gotta say Emerald and Platinum were the best of the series. Haven't played Pokémon B2/W2 yet though. A lot of games had popular multiplayer that I've missed out on though.

@@De1usionsofGrandeur it’s fun so far also about 6.5 hours in. Mostly doing side content and leveling up. The animations are crisp and each character plays distinctly. I really just don’t like the big enemies. They feel more like an obligation than anything fun to fight . I didn’t like the “tank” enemies in spider man either tho.

Ive been fighting with Steam to get a refund but apparently trying to get the game to run in a playable state for 6 hours counts as "too much playtime".

Dude as a rule of thumb, don't try to make it run for more than 2 hours or else it's a lot harder to get a refund, the automatic refund window is within 14 days of purchase OR max 120 minutes of playtime.

As some other people has said before: This was clearly a heavy live service focused game that changed drastically through its release (Maybe they saw what happened to The Avengers and said nope). It is sad to see this happened to Gotham Knights
Doesn't make any sense for them to look at one game to determine that when plenty exist on the market. I mean the devs have made some dumb decisions that have pissed people off so I doubt they looked at avengers and said nope. They just didn't give it much thought to make a good game.

Rocksteady made the Arkham series Montreal is just piggybacking off their success, Suicide Squad is gonna be the banger.
I feel with Arkham Knights they fumbled a bit but by no means it wasn't a good game

When Arkham Asylum, a game from 2009, has more heart and more action, smokes this, that’s telling.
Arkham Asylum has so much atmosphere. One of the few games I went to a midnight release.

Another big issue which you didn’t address is that the whole coop live services is so poorly made you’d be lucky playing in a friends game for more then 10 minutes before getting disconnected from a “network error” which is on their side
Really I haven’t had many issues playing with friends besides some crashes here and there but then just join back so fast

I didnt face any issue in coop nor crashed even it runs without dlss and rtx turned on in native 4k with 3080,10th gen i7 all at highest settings runs in between 50- 56fps
Well remember "current gen" includes that weak Series S. Ultimately still no excuse for the game not to run at 60fps on Series X and PS5
I had no problems with the multiplayer coop, played 12 hours straight when it came out and enjoyed all of it

Obviously the story has its flaws, but it does everything a sequel should do. Build upon the previous themes of the last entry, build upon the combat systems, went bigger with the story, introduced new characters but kept the main focus of the series, AND did this all well.
Arkham City is amazing, and my favorite.
Is there anyone who doesn't love Asylum and City? If anything I feel Origins is underrated and City a bit overrated. It's still better than Origins for being smoother tho

Even though the arkham series didnt have all that many different types of enemies. They were all unique and fit into battles like a puzzle piece, an enemy with a stunstick or a knife had to be fought differently than an enemy with a gun or a shield. They were few but made a massive impact.

You also just had more ways to deal with enemies and even the odds with gadgets. In Gotham Knights it's literally just build up your super meter then do your super, rinse and repeat. It's so bland and basic and boring.
They turned a genre defining stealth hero game into a boring beat 'em up with number grinding.
There’s a few but if there is a large number of them ganging up on you it makes for a decent challenge. You have to constantly change up your tactics depending on their types and it sometimes need you to react real quick unless you wanna get stomped

@@vagamer522 it was initially only 30fps on the series s, BUT, they let the ps5/series x run it at 60fps. I don't get why it's 30fps across the board, even people who have high end rigs scrape 30fps more often than 60fps and above.
Being capped at 30 fps on the supposed next gen consoles in 2022 is unacceptable yet fanboys are defending it on the official instagram account lol
Gotham Knights feels like a live-service game. I am pretty sure it was developed to be as such but after seeing Avengers get dumped on, they probably backtracked and removed the live service elements which is why the game feels that way.
I had never considered that RPG elements could undercut the setting of a game. Thanks for proving me wrong Gotham Knights. It feels... really cheap to have the Bat Family improving with randomized LOOT over a skill-based approach. These are characters that are supposed to be masters of martial arts, stealth, gadgetry, etc. But NO you can do a better job knocking out thugs because you found some cooler PANTS!
Yea adding health bars and materials does nothing but create an arbitrary grind for resources and xp in order to continue progression when it’s forced into a game
It almost makes me wonder if the game would benefit from a Crackdown style ""ability"" points system?

I think that loot in an RPG especially a Batman one has to be unique and not just a way to improve stats, stats should come with leveling up and if given the option to include stats in a specific area like more health, stamina etc is fine it just has to be meaningful, but on the subject of loot I imagine it in Batman like Red Hood can find different versions of his gun and they have different element damage such as explosive shots, stun shots, silenced gun, and they have unique perks, like one gives an explosion every 6 shots, one gives faster reload speed every kill, and the point of dissembling them is the material they give can go towards upgrading a new weapon of your choice the point of making you work for them is giving them stat requirements to use them efficiently or get the most out of them, and same for the other characters, so Batgirls pants should be different variation that gives shock damage with a chance of stun with a unique ability that can chain shock enemies if not and it’s just a stat buff it’s relatively tasteless

Arkham Knight came out 8 years ago and still looks and plays incredible. It has problems, but damn it, what it does well it does amazingly.
Gotham Knights, a game that came out 8 years later, made by the devs who made Arkham Origins, could not match up to those standards.
I didn’t buy this game after all the combat showcases. It’s an absolute slap in the face.

I knew that the game was going to be garbage the second I saw the RPG mechanics shoehorned into it. This is what happens when everybody wants to make their game into an RPG-lite, live-service, skin-focused game instead of making a simple combat game and effectively execute on that vision. It's very obvious they tried to copy Marvel's Avengers and when that failed, they tried to change course but still ended up crashing.

I agree. Triple A gaming has gone to shit (though I feel some AAA companies are trying to be better decent). It’s gotten to a point where most AAA companies want quantity over quality. To me, it’s the indie companies that put passion into their products. I recently played a game called Rollerdrome and it was easily the best action/shooter game I’ve played this year. The main campaign can be completed in a few hours, but I want to keep coming back to it since it is actually fun and memorable.

@@AJ-nh9qm because Batman “dies” in that game too. Anyways, most of the game mechanics are obviously from the Arkham games as well so it’s not far fetched to see it as a soft reboot to the Arkham series.

@@bighamza786 In movies or games universe in general if you see main characters blow up or fall off or die in anyway but does not see their dead body mean they did not truly die. In Gotham Knight you can see Bruce dead body mean he truly is dead. Also Suicide squad game coming out will be the continuation of the Ahkram universe so we will see if Batman in Ahkram universe truly die then.

I hate Ubisoft as much as the next guy, but even far cry 6 and ac: Valhalla was infinitely more fun than Gotham knights (granted I didn’t hate Gotham Knights, just was disappointed after coming from the Arkham trilogy)

It feels like there are a lot of investors and corporate big wigs, who don't give a flying fuck about video games and know nothing about how they're actually created, constantly putting unobtainable goals and expectations on these developers while simultaneously setting absurd deadlines and so these devs are forced to cut corners and ultimately have to push out an unfinished and unoptimized product to meet these expectations of these investors and whoever else that are looming over them threatening some sort of financial repercussion if expectations aren't met. I always say that I'd much rather have new games released way less often if it meant that the devs are actually able to invest the proper time and effort needed to create a good and finished game. Makes me miss the early to mid 2000's where game studios weren't nearly as big as they are now and could freely take the time to make something good without having to worry about going bankrupt because they need to meet some yearly quota of income. Shit was better back then.
In general, the people in charge of the major AAA publishers are good at making money. Everything else comes in a distant 2nd place. Worst part is they know they can get away with it. Seems like no matter how many broken games they launch, worker abuse scandals hit the news, or toxic crunchtime scandals hit the news, people still keep buying the big titles. The major publishers have no respect for the art that goes into the games, nor do they give 2 craps about game preservation. That's one of the downsides to buying digital copies of games: once its no longer profitable enough to support or keep the store running, they'll shut it down and you're just out of luck. Pretty sure if they had a kill switch to disable all physical copies, they'd happily use it to force you to buy new stuff.

Considering that Montreal was the same studio that made Arkham Origins, a very nicely done prequel to the rest of the Arkham games in my opinion, I also thought they would've done a far better job than this.
I wanted to buy Gotham Knights so bad, but I trust Muta so I'll save my cash until its on sale for $5 down the road!!

arkham Knight dominates with the gameplay while arkham City is amazing because of the story. but origins boss fights was another level. I haven't played asylum in a while but it being the original that paved the way for the others it has a spot there too

Not gonna lie, as soon as I started playing gotham knights, I literally said to myself I hate modern AAA games lol. I don’t hate triple a titles, but the unpolished mess of this game made me regret it instantly & I got it on a very much lower price.

I appreciate the game trying something different than the Arkham games but I agree, it doesn't replace that series in my heart.
Out of all the characters in the game Nightwing felt the most fun (I have a biased) and the Harley fight was fun but the game could have used more time in the oven for sure.
I found the game to be lazy across the board. The fighting system is button mashing, boss fights are all bullet sponges, the open world is nothing but the same several crime missions, upgrading gear boils down to getting gear with a higher number score. It’s like they intended for it to be a mobile game but didn’t want to hurt sales so they forced it to be what it is now
Most baffling thing I heard about this game is there's not much efforts put into crime solving mechanics, I was hoping there will be more crime investigation missions like Montreal did in Arkham Origins. Here I can see people solving crimes within few seconds 😅

Plague Tale Requiem has been the only game I was even remotely excited for outside of the RE4 and Dead Space remakes coming out next year. Partly because it's an indie studio and not triple A, but mostly because the first one is an underrated gem that flew under most people's radar

I disagree with the fact you said that all enemy's fight the same, you have the big freaks with the shields where you have to heavy melee attack to open them, the talons you have to heavy range attack to stun them, projectiles, the league of shadows you either time your dodge/melee. As for the Knights I would say that they can play different as you forgot to mention there abilities for Nightwing to benefit the team, Robin is good at stealth, Batgirls a complete brawler and Redhoods a powerhouse. I do believe this game needs improvement but I don't think it's really as bad as people say. P.s I'm level 26

They treated the court of owl and the league of shadows as if they were 2 street gangs, the court of owls is supposed to be the greatest threat in Gotham, and the league of shadows the greatest threat to batman, but it doesn't feel like it

These are exactly my issues and why I'm passing on this. Even comparing Arkham Origins to this, Origins had crowds of enemies on screen at one time. I noticed the small scale and just how dead the city was in one of the last trailers they put out late last year / early this year. Even from the menus / inventory displays has that cheap mobile game design. The worst thing for me is doing the court of owls without Batman, in the comics he fought off against them in Wayne manor for like an entire night by himself. So imagine my disappointment when they're like "nah Batman's dead."

I think what really makes it hard to get into Gotham Knights it’s that they removed it for Xbox-1/PS4, could’ve had a much larger audience for those that can’t get next Gen consoles, and despite the game being bad it could’ve been more accessible to people.
I mean... It's better this way. Just look at how it's running on the current Gen stuff

You know, a lot of ppl say that 2022 is a terrible year for games, but for me, a person that doesn't have any consoles and never had any, it's pretty awesome. A lot of amazing games got ported this year, No more heroes 3, Persona 5 royal, upcoming Persona 3 portable, Uncharted legacy of thieves collection, Marvel's Spider man. Yeah, its not new games, but i never played them, nor have i watched any walkthroughs on them. Honestly this has been a pretty awesome year for me so far from videogames standpoint.
I think 2022 was a good year for me so far with gaming. Klonoa got 2 remasters and a pokemon game is coming out next month so I'm excited about that

I haven't had a negative experience. Sure, the gameplay for the Arkham games is better, and crafting is unnecessary, but what I care about is the story. And even with that I'm still having a fun time with the gameplay loop. I'm not even getting that many performance issues (and I'm on a laptop) outside from the occasional crash. The negative backlash this game has gotten seems to be blown way out of proportion. At the end of the day, I get to play a fun game as my favorite comic book character (Tim Drake) and I think that's neat.

I think the comparison to the arkham games‘ combat is 100% valid. They literally did the same combat in origins themselves. Don’t know why they wouldn’t just copy it, make the fans happy and save themselves the time with coming up with a different combat style
