I live in grindavík and have my whole life, an eruption started just 2 days ago. The lava is currently just 2-3km away from our home. We havent been able to live at home for over a month and wont be able to be home for christmas. Grew up going to the blue lagoon or as we say at home bláa lónið, this video is kinda nostalgic and is so comforting to watch in way now. ( the lagoon will be spared as the built a protective wall around it aswell as HS orka, the source of heat and hot water for over 30.000 people)
Out of curiosity (not shading Saf at all!) how is Reykjavik pronounced? I was under the impression that it was more like "ryay-ha-veek" because of the old Journey to the Center of the Earth movie, but I also haven't watched that in like fifteen years lol
My thoughts are with the employees and residents of Iceland! I hope everyone will be alright and stay safe. There’s a lot of seismic activity and it doesn’t look like the volcano is calming down. The tourists at Blue Lagoon have been evacuated and it will be closed for a while. I am sure that’s a horrible experience. We will think of you Blue Lagoon 💙💙💙
Fun fact: if you go to a waterfall in Iceland and there is a tiny river flowing you can actually drink the water cause Icelandic water is very clean( coming from a Icelandic girl). Also I don’t recommend getting your hair wet in the blue lagoon cause it can turn into a mess.
We visited last December and your country is beyond words! Hope to be back there and definitely it's the best tap water we ever drank. 😂 I had to bring some of it back to the country I'm currently based in to compare it and it's waayyy incomparable. 😅
Here are some more suggestions for your spa series. Prague has many beer spas, it’s fantastic it makes your skin very soft, also comes with unlimited beer or wine, and you can take a nap afterwards. Budapest also have thermal baths and our kids really enjoyed it. It was my 8 year olds favorite part of our trip.
I'm 48 and Icelandic, from Reykjavik. When I was a kid, probably around 10 or so, so around 1985, the blue lagoon was pretty new. I developed some skin condition on the soles of my feet and was "prescribed" by my family physician to go bathe in the lagoon as the benefit for Psoriasis patients had already been established. At the time, the lagoon was right next to the Svartsengi power plant and not so far away from it as it is now. The changing room facilities was a literal shed with 3 showers and hangers for 10-15 people or so. This place has come a long way since then. Now I don't recommend anybody to go there as it's pricey as hell for going to a geothermal pool in Iceland. Reykjavik alone has 16 such pools to visit, all of them with a selection of hot tubs and even saunas as well. Price of entry there: 1/10th of the Blue Lagoon cost. Safiya and Tyler, if you ever make it back to Iceland I'd love to take you around and show you some nice sights...
Hello If you don't mind could you tell me how life and culture is in Iceland? Are people very conservative or liberal, open or reserved, and things like that😅 I'm really curious about this beautiful country.❤
Thanks for all the amazing content, guys - I’ve had your Vegas series on repeat. Hope you’re enjoying making all the videos as much as we love watching them. We appreciate you!
This is such a coincidence! I'm writing a term paper on geothermal resources and how humans use them. I had to mention the blue lagoon in it. Fun fact about sulfur: it is proven to help treat skin diseases like eczema and psoriasis. I referenced a couple of medical journals for it. Iceland sits on top of the Mid Atlantic ridge (a divergent plate boundary) which is what causes all of the geothermal activity. There's all this magma rising up from beneath the crust to create more. The magma reacts with the water and Chemical reactions happen. One of which is the precipitation of sulfur
Safiya spa + travel content is literally the best thing on TH-cam, I'm sooo excited for the rest of the Scandinavia series!!!!! Also as a German/Dutch person I'm really hoping for a Europe part 2 in the future:)
Same! I'm German, my fiancé is Dutch and I would love to see them checking out our beautiful countries! I live in a city with a nice thermal public pool and it's awesome! ❤
Saf and Tyler have officially entered their capybara phase, and I love that for them 😌😌😌😌 especially when they called themselves eggs, peak capybaraness 😌🤌
@@saanasalonen8684 capybaras are semi-aquatic animals, I think is the implication here. A number of videos I have seen of them in captivity seem to give them in very bathhouse-like habitats, and they're chill herbivorous animals, so I could see how one might associate them with spas.
@@erink476 oh ok! ty for answering, i didnt know that they are semiaquatic! i thought they were land dwellers! imma google that tomorrow! capybaras are so cute!
As a someone who's been living in Iceland for more than 5 years now, I would really recommend trying other things besides the blue lagoon. It is very expensive and touristy, but the public pools are sooo nice, way more accessible, and where you get to meet people who actually live there. It's a super social space, all the public pools have jacuzzis ("hot pots") to chat in, and most have a free hammam or sauna.
I agree. My husband I went to a public pool just down the street from our rental and it was amazing. We met so many nice locals. We would recommend it 100% to anyone!
Love the video! Just a heads up for anyone going to Iceland - make sure you take off jewellery before going in any spas, hot tubs, natural lagoons etc. The sulfur in the water can tarnish jewellery really easily - my white gold ring now looks very gold and my sister's sterling silver bracelet was completely tarnished black after 1 hour in a natural spring hot tub.
The sterling silver should polish up with some hot water, toothpaste, and a rag! The same thing happened to me in New Zealand and I was devastated until someone showed me that!
My favorite thing about your channel is that rather than posting weekly, you post interesting adventures like the spa, underwater hotel, Colonial Williamsburg, the Vegas series, and so forth. Very, very cool!
Because she's working hard on videos with her team that takes a lot of time to edit and upload. Let's not start. She never disappeared, she's just working on videos BTS for us to actually watch.
@@Snow-xd4rv They know that... it's just funny that it's "this week" when there hasn't been a weekly upload schedule for years. Maybe it should be "in this video". :)
Right like hello girl you okay? let us know :o I remember her once mentioning in a vlog that she disappeared for a while because of some nobodies insulting her and making her feel insecure thus not uploading a video for a while. Honestly I hope she isn't feeling insecure anymore because only nobodies get online and start bashing someone for simply existing!
FYI the conditioner isn't for the salt, it's for the silica - that's what messes your hair up. It's the same stuff they put in those little desiccant packages in new things and it's very good at absorbing moisture which makes your hair kind of dry and easily tangled.
As an Icelander, it is always so crazy to see these types of videos. Like, people i've been watching since i was a kid coming to my tiny little county 🥹
I was having a really bad anxiety attack and just don't really know how to calm myself down. I remembred watching your Japan spa vlog last time and I loved it. Watched this while in a middle of a panic attack. I calmed down. Thank you Saf and Tyler for always making comfy and soothing videos ❤
Have you watched her onsen video? That and this one I watch/listen to when I'm having an anxiety or panic attack. For me, it really helps to visualize myself where they are, just bobbing around in the water. ✌️ Edit, it's early lol you clearly watched that video 😂😂
I went to the Blue Lagoon with my parents in the summer of 2010 and I don't think they told us back then to put loads of conditioner in our hair, nor that we should put it up... We couldn't get our hair un-tangled for two weeks afterwards but I think it was worth it :)
same, I wonder when they changed it? I went in 2010 & 2011 too and the only thing they told us was to shower before going in the lagoon. Also, you could just pick up silica from the rocks and put it on. There wasn't a separate mask bar.
Been going there every few years since 2006 and there have always been signs all over the locker/shower rooms about putting conditioner in the hair and to put long hair up, sometimes the workers have reminded us while getting checked but not always
I went to the Blue Lagoon on vacation in 2009, and to this day it’s still one of the best places I’ve ever been. Absolutely breathtaking place and such a unique experience.
We did both the Blue Lagoon and the Sky Lagoon and really enjoyed both but enjoyed the Sky Lagoon a lot more overall. The views, the offerings, and the overall vibes (especially at sunset) was such a lovely way to end a day.
@ErinnPG sky felt a little more low key/busy when we went last February (although it was almsot new then) and we liked the 7 step offering they had over the face masks and spa stuff (neither of us are big on face masks) and the drinks were better too.
I also went to both Blue and Sky when I visited in early March 2023. I enjoyed finding the water ejection ports at Blue where the really hot water gets pumped in, but it was a little unfortunate to need to stay mindful of the silica and my hair. Sky had a MUCH cooler view, and was still pretty hot (not AS potentially hot as Blue, though), but be mindful that there are no windbreaks due to being open at the western (ocean-facing) end. It was windy, cold, and a little snowy that day, which froze my hair like a helmet on my head. However, it also made the experience quite interesting, and I could dunk under the water to thaw my face and hair. I also ran into some Scots and Brits between both places, so it was a good opportunity to get some inside info for my UK trip I hope to take in the future.
Not that long ago, people could dig up the silica masks from the bottom of the Blue Lagoon, then they started offering them in buckets by the perimeters for free. Today it's significantly more fancy and everything costs extra!
Yes. When I was there about 15 years ago the whole spa was waaaay less fancy. I would even say it was in dire need of a renovation. It had public swimming pool vibes. But you could just take the clay from the bottom of the lagoon and put on your face. I wish that they had told us about the hair back then. I didn’t know and ended up with the driest hair you can imagine 😅 Even though it’s expensive I would love to visit the lagoon (and Iceland ) again. I Love Icelandic horses 😍
After watching this I feel like I would just go to the Silica Lagoon and be happy since it wasn’t crowded at all and you still get a cool lagoon experience.
The hot springs out here in Oregon are fantastic and vary in size/scenery for anyone not able to get Iceland. Sometimes I need to remind myself that there are really great things in these bonkers times. If you are reading this, there's an ol gal in the PNW who wishes you safety & contentment out there 🌎
Thank you for this comment! As a fellow Oregon dweller, I have always wanted to visit the hot springs, and haven’t made the time. You have inspired me to do so this year. Have a magical day! ✨

I've been really missing Iceland lately. I'm born and raised American but my amma (grandmother) and her whole side of the family is Icelandic, so I grew up visiting there often. Seeing y'all visit even for a quick trip lifted my spirits so much (amusing pronunciations of Icelandic words helped too lmaooo)! I hope you're able to go back another time and really explore the country for a lengthier visit, it's so incredibly lovely.
i simply love safiya and tyler’s videos so much. there is so much thought and consideration that goes into every one and they’re just so enjoyable. cannot wait for the rest of this series!
at 10:48 when she said "why are we all here?" it cut to an ad and the ad that i got was for the mandalorian who immediately said "it's complicated" very dramatically. perfect.
I think part of it is how clearly she pronounces words. I hardly have to put effort towards understanding to her dialogue, so I can watch the visuals instead of subtitles and get the full experience of the video, more like people without auditory processing and attention issues can. Of course her fun subject matter and the snappy editing helps a lot too!

I went to Iceland in January 2019 and it is by far the most beautiful place ive ever been. Reykjavik is so unique, the Ring Road is so beautiful and of course Blue Lagoon was awesome!
I love Iceland 🥰 I went for a 3 day trip with university as part of my course - only had to pay £100 and got transfers, flights, bed and breakfast stay at a hostel and a trip to the blue lagoon for that and uni paid the rest of the money - best trip ever 🥰
Been catching up with your videos lately and I've been very entertained! I haven't had much opportunities to travel around but I'd love to someday. For now watching your videos scratch the itch of wanting to travel thank you for including us in your trips
From what I've heard (from my bf and his family who are icelandic), the Blue Lagoon is mostly a tourist attraction, but my bf's mom had recently gone to Sky Lagoon in Reykjavík and recommended it, there's a whole 7 step ritual thing, Lagoon, cold glacier pool, sauna, mist room, scrub, steam room, and fancy shower. I'm not sure how different the experiences would be, but if you ever need another hot bath in Iceland, there's that.
Thank you for letting me enjoy a few spa days vicariously through y'all 😘 I can't afford spas in the US much less one in Iceland. My skin is going to be frikkin amazing
I remember going to the pre-touristy blue lagoon with my grandma, you had a much smaller house and way less fancy (basically not fancy at all) to change clothes in, lots of jagged rocks and the water temperature was very random depending on where you went, so a lot more natural than it is now, it was a lot of fun. :)
Omg yes! I'm excited to see you try all these unique spa treatments that aren't available (or popular) in America. Im looking into travelling, so I need your recommendations.
First of all, I NEED to go. Second, because of this video I went to their retail wrbsite and bought a fortune's worth of their face masks. You can literally see how much you skin was lglowing, Saf. Can't wait to use them! Iceland looks MAGICAL.
What a bucket list item!! I’ve watched documentaries on Iceland but never wanted to go as bad as I do now that I’ve watched your video. Thank you for all the quality content.
This video was the first time I heard about the Blue Lagoon. The second time was on the news, about the volcanic eruptions very nearby and how the Blue Lagoon might get destroyed by it as the area is no switching from rest to active volcanic area.
To those wondering, the reason you shouldn't get your hair wet is because of the amount of silica in the water. Silica stiffens hair if it becomes saturated with it and it'll take a while to fully disintegrate from your hair. The silica and sulfur is really good for the skin so win some lose some :3

Fun fact: if you go to a waterfall in Iceland and there is a tiny river flowing you can actually drink the water cause Icelandic water is very clean( coming from a Icelandic girl). Also I don’t recommend getting your hair wet in the blue lagoon cause it can turn into a mess.
What does happen? Just for out of curiosity
Good tip for anyone who’s gonna go because of this vid thank you 😊
@@EmelyPhan Basically, the salt rips out all of the natural oil and moisture from your hair. It's difficult to get it back to normal.
Thanks for the tip, I'm going there in a few months for my birthday lol
We visited last December and your country is beyond words! Hope to be back there and definitely it's the best tap water we ever drank. 😂 I had to bring some of it back to the country I'm currently based in to compare it and it's waayyy incomparable. 😅
Here are some more suggestions for your spa series. Prague has many beer spas, it’s fantastic it makes your skin very soft, also comes with unlimited beer or wine, and you can take a nap afterwards. Budapest also have thermal baths and our kids really enjoyed it. It was my 8 year olds favorite part of our trip.
I came here to mention the beer spa! Especially since Prague also has a 16th century alchemists' lab which seems like something Saf would love
I would be careful as a woman bathing in beer it can really throw off your. vaginal Ph 😬 and you could get a yeast infection
Visit Carlsbad @safiya
Hello
If you don't mind could you tell me how life and culture is in Iceland?
Are people very conservative or liberal, open or reserved, and things like that😅
I'm really curious about this beautiful country.❤
@@lifechroniclesconfessions4816 Don't remember exactly... sorry
Thanks for all the amazing content, guys - I’ve had your Vegas series on repeat. Hope you’re enjoying making all the videos as much as we love watching them. We appreciate you!
me too!! i'm glad they are travelling again!
Same!! I'm at the point I can start quoting the first part of the Vegas series💀👍
yes!
I loved the Vegas series!!! I need them to do more stuff there haha
Ooooh that's really cool
One fun fact to add to all that: Iceland grows with about 1 cm of land every years due to all the volcanic activity!
Same love her travel videos!
Saf and Tyler have officially entered their capybara phase, and I love that for them 😌😌😌😌 especially when they called themselves eggs, peak capybaraness 😌🤌
what is the capybara stage?
@@saanasalonen8684 capybaras are semi-aquatic animals, I think is the implication here. A number of videos I have seen of them in captivity seem to give them in very bathhouse-like habitats, and they're chill herbivorous animals, so I could see how one might associate them with spas.
@@erink476 oh ok! ty for answering, i didnt know that they are semiaquatic! i thought they were land dwellers! imma google that tomorrow! capybaras are so cute!
Ah the Saftybara. Such a majestic creature.
japanese zoos also have the tradition of offering yuzu baths to capybaras! those giant fluffy rats love their hot springs
Yes!!! I know there is a reason why all the tourist go to blue lagoon but there is so much better places to go to!
I agree. My husband I went to a public pool just down the street from our rental and it was amazing. We met so many nice locals. We would recommend it 100% to anyone!
@@Villasukkakomero drop the names!
I was thinking the same thing, pretty sad to go to a country and spend one night there.
@@tdelioncourt1268 Any public swimming pool on your way. Never been to a bad one.
What I like about Safiya's content is how informative her videos are, and at the same time, they're very fun and entertaining to watch.
Thank you!

My favorite thing about your channel is that rather than posting weekly, you post interesting adventures like the spa, underwater hotel, Colonial Williamsburg, the Vegas series, and so forth. Very, very cool!
If this channel turns into nothing but hotel reviews I would be so into it. 🤞🏻

it kills me how she intros her videos "this week..." as if she doesnt disappear for months and years at a time 😄
Because she's working hard on videos with her team that takes a lot of time to edit and upload. Let's not start. She never disappeared, she's just working on videos BTS for us to actually watch.
Catch you guys in #Sweden2025
@@Snow-xd4rv They know that... it's just funny that it's "this week" when there hasn't been a weekly upload schedule for years. Maybe it should be "in this video". :)
Right like hello girl you okay? let us know :o I remember her once mentioning in a vlog that she disappeared for a while because of some nobodies insulting her and making her feel insecure thus not uploading a video for a while. Honestly I hope she isn't feeling insecure anymore because only nobodies get online and start bashing someone for simply existing!
@@Ayveh She doesn't disappear though, her videos take time to edit and make
FYI the conditioner isn't for the salt, it's for the silica - that's what messes your hair up. It's the same stuff they put in those little desiccant packages in new things and it's very good at absorbing moisture which makes your hair kind of dry and easily tangled.
Love that Tyler’s face masks look like a kid putting on sunscreen for the first time😂❤
As an Icelander, it is always so crazy to see these types of videos. Like, people i've been watching since i was a kid coming to my tiny little county 🥹

Watching this during the sad evacuation of Grindavik and the closure of the Blue Lagoon, hope both are ok after the eruption 😢
Whaat?? What happened??!
I always forget how beautiful the blue lagoon is it is so breathtaking
I really enjoy how safyia always explains everything so well while having the time of her life in her videos 💚
Safyia’s videos are always wonderful
I was having a really bad anxiety attack and just don't really know how to calm myself down. I remembred watching your Japan spa vlog last time and I loved it. Watched this while in a middle of a panic attack. I calmed down. Thank you Saf and Tyler for always making comfy and soothing videos ❤
Have you watched her onsen video? That and this one I watch/listen to when I'm having an anxiety or panic attack. For me, it really helps to visualize myself where they are, just bobbing around in the water. ✌️
Edit, it's early lol you clearly watched that video 😂😂
I went to the Blue Lagoon with my parents in the summer of 2010 and I don't think they told us back then to put loads of conditioner in our hair, nor that we should put it up... We couldn't get our hair un-tangled for two weeks afterwards but I think it was worth it :)
same, I wonder when they changed it? I went in 2010 & 2011 too and the only thing they told us was to shower before going in the lagoon. Also, you could just pick up silica from the rocks and put it on. There wasn't a separate mask bar.
By 2017 they had the mask bar and told us to use conditioner so sometime in between there
Been going there every few years since 2006 and there have always been signs all over the locker/shower rooms about putting conditioner in the hair and to put long hair up, sometimes the workers have reminded us while getting checked but not always
Came here to say this very thing and I went in 2013
I went to the Blue Lagoon on vacation in 2009, and to this day it’s still one of the best places I’ve ever been.

Thank you for this- planning a Sept trip with a group and only have time for one. We are between Blue Lagoon and Sky Lagoon but leaning Sky!
So fun to see people visit the Blue Lagoon,I work there so I hope you guys enjoyed your stay 🤗
That's awesome!! Are you allowed to swim in there?
Not that long ago, people could dig up the silica masks from the bottom of the Blue Lagoon, then they started offering them in buckets by the perimeters for free. Today it's significantly more fancy and everything costs extra!
Welcome to capitalism
An underwater massage sounds like pure heaven. The blue lagoon is now on my bucket list just for that.
I read this as underwear massage😭😭

After watching this I feel like I would just go to the Silica Lagoon and be happy since it wasn’t crowded at all and you still get a cool lagoon experience.

I would fly all the way to Iceland just to feel that clay they were playing with in the silica lagoon, it's just so ~texture~
Glad you enjoyed it! Im an icelander! The stuff on the bottom in the Silica hotel lagoon used to be all over the main lagoon years ago. It is the same stuff as the complimentary silica mask and the main lagoon used to have like afew giant buckets here and there, way before the mask bar came to be
I've been really missing Iceland lately. I'm born and raised American but my amma (grandmother) and her whole side of the family is Icelandic, so I grew up visiting there often. Seeing y'all visit even for a quick trip lifted my spirits so much (amusing pronunciations of Icelandic words helped too lmaooo)! I hope you're able to go back another time and really explore the country for a lengthier visit, it's so incredibly lovely.
i simply love safiya and tyler’s videos so much. there is so much thought and consideration that goes into every one and they’re just so enjoyable. cannot wait for the rest of this series!
at 10:48 when she said "why are we all here?" it cut to an ad and the ad that i got was for the mandalorian who immediately said "it's complicated" very dramatically. perfect.
There is something about the format of Saf's videos that scratches my adhd brain itch. I feel so calm right now.😊
I think part of it is how clearly she pronounces words. I hardly have to put effort towards understanding to her dialogue, so I can watch the visuals instead of subtitles and get the full experience of the video, more like people without auditory processing and attention issues can. Of course her fun subject matter and the snappy editing helps a lot too!
You two are just so comforting for me. I mean, the videos you and Tyler put out are extremely rewatch-able.
Hope everyone that’s been affected by the volcano in Iceland today is safe! 💕

The difference between Saf’s mask putting on abilities and Tyler’s is so funny to me
I can’t wait to see the next installment of this Nordic series. I really like all the travel videos and this was just a or fantastic one.
Keep them coming safiya!
Thank you for letting me enjoy a few spa days vicariously through y'all 😘 I can't afford spas in the US much less one in Iceland. My skin is going to be frikkin amazing
😂
I remember going to the pre-touristy blue lagoon with my grandma, you had a much smaller house and way less fancy (basically not fancy at all) to change clothes in, lots of jagged rocks and the water temperature was very random depending on where you went, so a lot more natural than it is now, it was a lot of fun. :)
Omg yes! I'm excited to see you try all these unique spa treatments that aren't available (or popular) in America.
Im looking into travelling, so I need your recommendations.

I feel like I went to the Blue Lagoon just watching this video. I feel so calm and rested. Thanks @ Saf and Tyler for taking me to Iceland 🤣
This video was the first time I heard about the Blue Lagoon. The second time was on the news, about the volcanic eruptions very nearby and how the Blue Lagoon might get destroyed by it as the area is no switching from rest to active volcanic area.
All I want in life is to lounge in all the peaceful hot springs around the world, I really hope this is going to be a long series!
To those wondering, the reason you shouldn't get your hair wet is because of the amount of silica in the water. Silica stiffens hair if it becomes saturated with it and it'll take a while to fully disintegrate from your hair. The silica and sulfur is really good for the skin so win some lose some :3
