I love the ice spiker pro tires in the winter. Except they are way too hard for the snowy surface when using recommended air pressures. When I use lower pressures to get better handling and driving experience the tires will start to crack from the sides.
Also I think ice spikers would benefit from less round profile. Now they only dig them self in to the snow and are harder to drive. Maybe these are developed to only hard icy roads, but here northern europe we have more snow than ice.

You are right that the SCHWALBE ICE SPIKER PRO is best suited for icy conditions. However, a layer of ice must always be expected under loose snow. Have you used the SCHWALBE PRESSURE PROF to adjust the tire pressure? www.schwalbe.com/en/pressureprof/

Thanks for this video. I have 23c Schwalbe Lugano on my road bike and I weigh about 165lbs (75kg?). Recommended pressure as stated on the sidewall is 85-110 psi. But with all the talk of using lower pressures these days, I’m wondering how low I can go with these particular tires without risking more frequent punctures. Any suggestions for me to experiment with?

    What about winter tyres' pressures?
I am about to get a Cube Stereo Hybrid 120 SLT 750 "Allroad" Prizmblack (with fenders and stuff) , size L , with Smart Sam 2,6'' x 29'' normal wheels. Location is around EU - polar circle, so -50c temps are possible. But the +-0c is the temp those studded ones are most useful at: water/snow on transparent ice.

Would this wheel be the choice? Or the 57mm wide one? The trouble is that Im not sure what will fit under the fenders. (ACID Mudguard set MTB 75 with struts black)

I wish someone told me earlier that you can go to a gas station and pump up your tires for free. for 4 years I was pumping them with a puny hand pump, it takes so much work and the pressure you end up with is still too low. and I wondered why it takes so much effort to ride, then I tried pumping air in with a gas station compressor to max allowed pressure and it was like a new world opened to me, bike rides so much easier, just put in a couple pedal strokes and it rolls and rolls for miles

Pumping up a tyre with a good-quality hand pump isn't that hard. It's certainly easier and quicker than doing a detour to a filling station and having to pay for it (we don't have many filling stations in the UK that have free air). If you're physically incapable then a stirrup pump or a foot pump is even easier. Apart from that you should always have a pump (and puncture repair kit) with you just in case you get a flat so why not use that?

Hi…is 40 PSI on Marathon Plus okay? Thanks in advance.

    • @SchwalbeBikeTires

Unfortunately not that straight forward to answer - sorry. It does depend on the overall weight of you and the bike, tire size and riding profile. Given you have a 40-622 tire the tire can be ridden at 50-85 psi. So 40psi does sound a little low. Try 50 psi and see how it feels for you. If you let us know your tire size we can be a little more specific.

@@SchwalbeBikeTires oh thanks for that quick reply! I’m 9 and 1/2 stone and the wheel is 26…I’m gulping at the thought of 50psi and would want fat tires or dual suspension!! 😅. The rds and canals would be brutal to drive on otherwise! The potholes and uneven surfaces make it a nightmare…however I’m open to suggestions/solutions. Much appreciated 👍🏻
