Dr Strange actually sees 2 possibilities but he decided not to say the other one. The first possibility is obvious and sad, which was Tony Stark (Iron Man) taking the gauntlet and snapping his fingers. The second possibility was Dr Strange using the Darkhold to dreamwalk and obtain the book of Vshanti and defeat Thanos. He didn't do this because it can lead to an incursion.

Would make more sense than only seeing one possible solution. He saw thousands of solutions, each with their own pitfalls. Some may of lead to stronger enemies. Some had people dying. Etc etc. And he chose the one he thought was the best. And just told everyone there was only one way

I think it’s true. In Agents of Shield, a show about the guy that loki killed in the battle of New York (phil coulson) changes the timeline of the MCU by stopping Glenn Talbot, a super powered, mentally unstable general, from destroying the earth. It is also revealed that Talbot defeated thanos in a good amount of alternate timelines, but in the MCU timeline this was stopped. He may have been the threat that Strange saw.
Yeah the future of the MCU would've been darker if they didn't stop Talbot. The survivors of Earth being enslaved by the Kree with no one to stand up for them. Also Thanos still would have all 6 Infinity Stone cause once Earth died the Mind & Time Stones would just be left floating in Space.
So in that logic, Shield saved the World from being destroyed so that the later Events of Infinity War could happen. (The fight in Wakanda specifically) Cause at the end of the episode it ends right before Thanos Snaps his fingers.
