    Crunch, crunch, crunch.... love it when Nigels video start out that way.... we don't get winters any more south of the border.

    Playing catch-up in the Zone again! I was confident this tree would cope with the root work you did, but it is always good to see it flourish. I often take inspiration and see your trees as "Bonsai goals", but in this case my cotoneaster is a few years ahead, so I am reassured that what you are doing will work - and that I am obviously improving my skills from all I am learning!!

    Nice fall colors on the larch. Such a beautiful white!
    The Cotoneaster looks good, too!

      It ran really well this summer, even though I only used it about ten times!!

    Wow all that snow already! We have a slight sprinkling and frost here in Manchester UK. I am still surprised how many tropicals you keep, most of my plants/trees are fully hardy. Just a few Jade plants that I bring inside in Autumn before any frost. They spend the winter inside as house plant. Great job on the Cotoneaster. I have a couple I have made into cascade style. My favourites are Larch and of course Japanese Acer.

    Hi Nigel, maybe spray your soil with soap and water again since all the leafes covering it may have prevented some mealy bugs from getting the treatment. Hope the tree will be in good health :)

    I’d say the larches today are showing their winter color, rather than fall colours!!!

    winter has arrived! I love watching everything change over the seasons. To be honest, your videos are therapy at this point! Also the more vigorous a branch is, the longer the leaves stay green. So that explains why the really long sucker had some green leaves - it looked like it recently stopped growing!

    It really is starting to look like the old apple tree in my parent’s yard! Nice job, Nigel!! Winter had an early start here in Michigan too. Two nights ago our low was 16 degrees F (almost -9 C)!!! It’s feeling like January already! 🥶 Stay warm!

    At least the snow is a good insulation for your trees outside. Keeps them at a constant 32F/0C. Be careful shoveling snow.

    Great to see all that snow. Middle of Ohio here, and we didn't get all that lake effect... just a dusting! Good video, nice to see pruning happening throughout the year!

    Love your "light dusting of snow", Britain grinds to a halt with half that amount 😂😂

    Great to rid yourself of the sucker growth so that you can develop your trunk and tree form. Great video as always.

    Did you get a hold of evaporust? You can use it over and over again. I put it a container with a lid. And i just throw every rust tool or screw in there and let it eat. And somedays afther is like brand new

      28 in Fahrenheit. 40 in Celsius is super hot summer temperatures! Either one gives me the shivers - I am in SE Australia and while we can get 40 degrees in summer, it is never fun, and -4 is far to cold in winter for what we are used to. But then, we rarely see snow so it is all fun for me!!

    Hi Nigel - Have you done a video on how/where to 3D-print a bonsai pot, and maybe how to treat it so that it lasts longer?

  • @Steves_Backyard_Bonsai
    @Steves_Backyard_Bonsai ปีที่แล้ว

    Ah yes, winter is here in earnest. Love the cotoneaster. Mine also resembles an apple or some other old orchard tree, so that is what I will be trying to acheive. I have not yet removed it from its nursery pot, so I’m debating whether I can do that over winter. May I have your thoughts?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Steve, I would wait until spring to repot, when you start to see a bit of activity in the tree, you can prune the top over winter!

    • @Steves_Backyard_Bonsai
      @Steves_Backyard_Bonsai ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheBonsaiZone That’s great to know and it’s what I will do. There is a lot of top pruning to be done. Thank you Nigel!
