Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

Nathan, I watch 5 different farms TH-cam sites, and for farming knowledge, yours is by far the most informative. It's beyond me why you don't have more subscribers. I love the John Deere equipment you own as well. Enjoyed seeing your sister too. One day, hope she joins the farm. Keep up the excellent work.
Nice going on the double crop beans.
Have you ever heard of a book called " The Mystery At Roaring Brook Farm". It takes place about a hundred years ago in Ohio.
My dad gave it to me when I was 14 and sparked my interest in Farming.
B stands for 2024 and Brilliant😉! Welcome back hanna!
Wow Nathan little Sis is going to be telling BVF 's what to plant and what to do soon😂
Good to see sister in a Ag related profession. PIONEER 😂😂😂😂. Thanks Nathan
Nathan, without a doubt. You should inquire through your sister about a couple of totes of Pioneers heavy hitter soybeans and corn seeds that fit your area. That would add an extra diversified dimension to your farming content I believe us your followers would appreciate seeing. Especially since the company you have been working so hard for for years now has disrespected your solid farming content which in my opinion is 1st class. Best wishes bro.
"Yah Just Throw the bag of seed out the window in "I" states ! $$$ !
30 bushel profit is a haggie payment😉😂😂
I’m glad you came on , I was just about to give up on finding something to watch 😊
Anna always adds to your TH-cam channel. It would be a good idea to use her in more videos…
She lives in Iowa
I like those "first thing in the morning, 9:00 in the morning " people.
To be fair he had a 3 hour drive to get here
@@BorderViewFarms I understand I'm talking about city folk.
Good to see your sister once again, she looks really well and clearly quietly comfortable with her job.
That was a most interesting set of results with those double crop beans with the difference between treated and non treated samples of the same variety of beans, in the same field and I imagine everything else is pretty similar if not the same.
Question: is the product that the beans were treated with designed to protect the bean seed only? I.e. Does this seed treatment have some sort of (significant?) additional protection also to the young growing plants in some way or other.
It seems to me that possibly at the time of year the double crops are growing strongly the main crops in the locality may be harbouring / developing a level of disease(s) which clobbers the double crops.
Absolutely the treatment protects the seedlings as well as the seed. Both the fungicide and insecticide components are systemic and taken in by the roots.
The Boss bringing the Boss Trailer out to the Boss 👍
Anna's a babe. More Anna!
You weren't the only run running wet beans. Reading was super busy Thursday and Friday.
Good morning, glad you have good weather forecasted for a couple more days.
Good to see Anna glad she is doing good
Just remember with with pioneer seed corn you get free lodging with every bag 😂
I hope your boys are super excited to see you, Wayde!!
Uh Oooh you mentioned seed company at 3:05, edit that out quick!
We planted a 3.9, planted June 30th neighbors planted their July 7th after 2.5 inches of rain
Nice double crop
This thumps up is for Anna😅
So the three of you get a $10k Christmas bonus this year!
Enjoyed video good double crop beans!!
Great video from ND. Still waiting for snow to melt and make mud mess. There are a lot of genetics and seed companies out there. But it’s still up to Mother Nature. Nice double crop beans. It’s was a win. 👍👍
Let the combine worry about it 😂
That’s funny ! Good morning from northern Iowa.
That 8 row head must be a pain with the unloading auger! On the western high plains the P1122 works well for us planted mid June. It can be planted at 30,000 to make 240 bu with limited water.
Here in Kentucky double crop beans after wheat is real common every one does it we shoot for 50 ave and anything above that is gravy some years the full season and the double crops are about the same as it was this year. We couldn't go wheat unless we did double crop because unless we had a Project in that field
2 pody for the party 😂
Great video Nate, one of the best this year!
We had 100 acres 25 went 49.7, one went 30.8. One went 16, and one went 7 last 2 were deer infested so yeah lovely never dreamed of anything over 25 for as dry as we were east central il. Had 2 fields at 13 amd 12.4 rest were 15 to 16 did them week ago Thursday
Maybe if you became a Pioneer dealer they might let you say their name.🤣
Think they'd pay me to say their name?
Even though that 'other' seed company doesn't want you using their name, Pioneer is cool with it. Hmmmm 😂
Earlier in the week, you had a comparison of your high management versus your regular fertilizer corn program. Would you be willing to share your high program management?
I saw another guy having issues with his 780 flickering lights and recording off and on, he also has problem with unloading auger not going out and the engine throttle not responding. there's a dtac case he said but no fix. He cleaned every ground.
A tractor traffic jam, who would have thought.
Why not do eight row test plots?
6 rows was faster to plant and takes less space so there is less soil variability.
@@BorderViewFarms For my plots, I do full 24 row planter width one acre long.
Had all night to do software updates
Yeah but I have to leave the key on
Bet your dad will buy some seed from her.
I would like her to hook you up with 2 or 3 pioneer verietys for your plot . Also maybe a Becks , Seed Consultant and another one.
If you remember i wanted you to plant another field . If you would have planted it i could have had a cut 😆😆😂😂😆
I was just reading about Huckabee kicking Syngenta out of Arkansas and noticed pioneer is marketing America heavily on their signage😆. Are governor gave the chi coms 700 mill to buy land for a battery plant maybe she'd give Syngenta some money to move here🤣
Wait you said That companies name this morning!!!! Did you get the sponsorship?
I heard it too.
Same here, going to be on the bad boys list. Ha ha
Sorry for the comment. Regarding pop-up fert, My theory is everything needed to grow is in the seed. The Nitrogen is more important to attract moisture. I've never liked the potential of salinity damage. I believe somewhere there is a better product to use if the price is right. Does it improve uniform emergence? Probably, depending on conditions. Pretty much a non commercial view.
Guys obviously try to push application amounts. I've done that too. One thing I know, you can't put as much on at once on a steeper contour, compared to flat ground. If a soil saturation occurs, a 2x2 can bleed into the row and burn the seedling. Kinda obvious. We were OK when we did 150bu. Now, it's a no brainer sidedressing.
Congratulations on the double crop. Does this mean we'll have a September frost next year??? Hope not. Bring on global warming!
Would it have been worth the time to blend those beans with some dry bin beans?
aw more soybean harvest this time double crop beans
Hi Nathan - would it make more sense to cut the wheat lower to reduce the what stubble going through now?
Not really, that would make the wheat much harder to combine and the stubble actually encourages the beans to get taller.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I know your against fieldview but it's much nicer for field maps on iPad. I like being able to see which way the planter went and find pairs with it but you have autopath now I think. Have you tried turning rowsense off and using autopath guidance?
Autopath and rowsense work together. It's not one or the other.
@@BorderViewFarms interesting. I use the same ab line as planter but rowsense shifts the line instead of taking me into where I need to be turning even with entry mode set to gps. So I just turn off rowsense and use rtk then nudge with joystick.
Wade doesn’t watch all your videos?
I know you are convinced that low inputs on double crops because of risk, but everyone in my area treats them like full season, you could get a cheap generic fungicide in there? Would like to see you do a test strip just for TH-cam content 😉 beck's research over multiple years in multiple states says fungicide pays on double crops. I know it's all about do you get the rain and how early is frost.
Location, location, location. Down south where they count on double crop and they are more likley to yield well every year you can push them more. I have almost equal chances of 40 bu and 0 bushel double crops
I am wondering because of how well your beans were, will there be more double crop beans next year?
All depends on the year. If the wheat comes out early, we have moisture, and the bean price is good, we'll plant them
@@BorderViewFarms sounds good
Why not do double crops on every acre after wheat?
Lots of reasons. Mostly the wheat doesn't get combined soon enough to plant them all, the straw certainly doesn't get baled fast enough, we tiled 3 of our wheat fields, some of them are too far away to make it worth the risk of planting DC beans especially late
@@BorderViewFarms hey Nathan, thanks for the response. I’m not sure what value the straw brings you guys, would it be better to just leave the straw and get the double crops in right away? I’m drilling wheat behind soybeans in western Ne today
Do you make more money doing wheat and double crop then you would just regular crop
I would consider wheat to be a regularl crop.
How does double crop work with crop insurance and farm yields in your area
Depends on the county. Where these were we aren't required to buy crop insurance on them. Just have to keep the bushels separate for record keeping.
A question occurred to me as I was watching this. Do you have to tell the combine automation what crop you are processing
? Since it is based on cameras, it seems to me it might need to know.
Not the automation specifically but crop is part of the field setup. It does however have the planting records to know what was planted in each field
Geese or sky rats?
Hey you can't be naming a seed company that doesn't want to be named, or atleat without paying.
Since you talked about this TH-cam ads and how you get paid, I've started watching through the ads for your channel only.
I'm glad you continue not to advertise for meals or a green drink.
Or home security....

If your own sis and dealer/golden garvest have no idea what you’re talking about just shows how little they care about your channel😂😂 both don’t give a shit. Keep farmin
