For stocking up on canned goods, most stores like Walmart and target will sell them online to be shipped in the mail with free shipping if you reach a minimum amount and it helps me get the better deals without having to go to their overwhelming stores (and will also save on gas and time).

My Dad and I wanted to reduce the amount of caffeine we were consuming so we have been making regular ground coffee and using less ground coffee to make a weaker pot and then adding decaf coffee crystals to add back more coffee flavor without the caffeine. It actually taste better than full strength coffee because the decaf is just pure coffee flavor.

After I did a pantry inventory, A few weeks ago I realized I needed to stock up on baking soda, baking powder, icing sugar and mustard but was unable to find any for a reasonable price (started to panic) until this week when they all came on sale. I stocked up. I also know I will need laundry and dish soap but I have some time to watch for those to come on sale. I went 3 weeks without milk because I used my powdered milk from pantry and then I found 2 more back up emergency jars. I will buy fresh milk in the next couple of weeks before I have to dip into my emergency powdered milk stock. Being prepared and planning is really the key. We are now having a vegetarian meal once a week and I am trying to miss one week of big grocery shopping in a month. So far that is working. Great Video

I'm trying to cut way back on dairy product usage. Both for cost and calorie savings! I enjoy them SO MUCH but try to see anything beyond an occasional jug of milk for cooking and coffee as a treat. There again, it is an attitude adjustment. I don't feel deprived as I haven't cut these items out completely.

@@janetstonerook4552 I use very little milk as well. What I normally do is I buy whole milk and water it down and freeze half of it. The powdered milk worked great for baking and for tea so I didn't really miss the milk in the end. Two weeks ago I also stretched out my yogurt by making my own yogurt . I know what deprivation feels like and I don't feel that at all now: Just gratitude

@@sandrabryan9106 I agree, Sandra. It isn't about being deprived. It's about coming back into moderation. We Americans have been overdoing a good thing for a long time. European countries I've visited are amazed at how much of everything we use. Adults don't drink milk there but use it sparingly in their hot drinks and in cheeses and yogurts. A lot of foods they only had on special holidays we think we need to eat every day!

Honestly, what would I do without you two? I start off thinking (not in an arrogant way) "Oh, I know this!" and then you say something about it that makes me sit up and think "ah, but I would keep better tabs on how much I use if etc......". This is really important for me as a relatively new vegan - the food I buy most has changed and I don't fully know yet what I buy regularly and how long it lasts. For instance, my consumption of peanut butter and chickpeas has really gone up! And I'm cooking dried beans in the Instant Pot now (and freezing excess) instead of automatically opening tins, so that's a change that I could note as well. What you give us in these videos is *so* useful.
PS. Please tell us more about how you manage delaying gratification? I'm working on it but I am rubbish at it, to be honest. And PPS. Doesn't Larry look nice and smart in a tie?
PPPS. Holy moly, look at how many subscribers you've got now!!! It was much less than this when I joined you, so it's going up all the time. People obviously value your input as much as I do, and that's good to see. Congratulations!

Another trick, i.e., 'sales strategy,' besides physical store size, is that Walmart moves things around.
As a plan, Walmart moves items from one place to another in order to have the customer walk around the store to see other items and that increases the possibility of an impulse buy.

I might hit the reduced price bread store once a month, then freeze the bread. I might hit Smith’s if they have good sales, Sam’s Club once a month . And fresh produce 2 times a month at Sprouts.

This may sound strange but just use water when washing clothes. If there is grime or dirt spot treat. They will get clean. If you wear layers only wash the inner layer every time. Use baking soda for brushing teeth. Don't wear deodorant. Not good. It clogs up pours. If you smell wash up. Toothpaste expensive and bad for you especially the flouride. Buy presents ahead of time. Buy only when prices ridiculously low. Buy new stuff at Goodwill for cheap. Or new stuff at garage sale. Make your fancy meals at home. Play your favorite music. No tips to pay. Wait on each other. Go through your house and stop rebuying things you can't find. Use vinegar to clean or Dawn or generic Dawn for other stuff. Stop buying expensive cleaning supplies. Wash your car at home. That will save a ton of money. In between times use a spray bottle and a rags. It's quick and you don't have to drag the hose out and make a mess. Never buy new furniture. You don't need it and NO ONE CARES like you think they do. Ride your bike. Do push-ups. Don't go to the gym. That's just pride. You don't need mirrors. Keep your shirt on. Take walks. Play tennis. Don't waste money on stupid movies. Live YOUR life. Stop watching Actors and Actresses. All that will do is get you fantasizing.
Love YOUR spouse. Love life. Help your neighbor. Yep, that neighbor. Read your King James Bible. Don't skip that one! Pray for people. Love people. Enjoy your life. Be frugal.
But don't be afraid to give $50 or $100 or? to someone with a genuine need. It will come back to you I promise. Done many multiple times including vehicles I didn't need. Never had a lot of money. God is good. We need to be too.

I have always dated my bulk purchases. There are many ways to cut back on items. I dilute my laundry detergent with water and use much less than the manufacturer recommends and I have no problems. Same with my dawn. If I use my dishwasher I use a half teaspoon. Sometimes with my coffee I will reuse the grounds, add half as much fresh grounds and brew. You can always adjust for your personal taste. I've always been frugal. I have learned so much from you guys. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Bravio Larry! I'm not sure I could do without coffee! But we do need to be flexible in our consumption habits. One of the few food luxuries I was buying was an occasional gourmet bag of coffee. Due to the increasing prices, I decided I could no longer justify that so I've shopped around for less expensive brands that were still taste satisfying. And bought them in larger, more economical cans and froze half to keep it fresher longer. That way I can still enjoy my morning pot of coffee at less than half the cost of the gourmet stuff! And I don't feel deprived. 👍👍👍

I bit the bullet and didn’t “go” to Walmart, but they have free curbside pick-up over $35 so I did my weekly shopping on their app, got our usual fancy items like organic bread and Gardien meats, only had to compromise on a few things, and got our grocery bill down almost $100! I know our corner grocer is one of the priciest in town, but I can bike there. Well the gas I’m saving isn’t worth the inflated prices! $6.99 for our fancy bread vs $5.18 at Walmart! $5.99 for our favorite vegan sausage at the usual store, $5.19 for the exact same brand at Walmart! Every item was like this- we found the same brands or something similar (organic/vegan) for $0.50-1.00 less across the board. It was shocking! I’ll be ordering from Walmart more often.

I have been gradually sharing what tips I’ve learned from your videos w my husband and he is willing to work w me to make some changes.
    So far:
We’ve double checked all light bulbs to make sure they’re all LED,we’re experimenting with lowering the thermostat on our natural gas furnace to 69 in the evenings while we cover ourselves with warm throws and supplement w an oil filled radiator portable heater( has 3 settings up to 1500 W but i set it on setting #2 and it kept the LR at 70 degrees for the 3 hrs we normally have the temp at 72 before it is programmed to lower to 65 over night)I am getting back in the habit of making stews, 15 bean soup etc in the crockpot and I’m going to dust off some old family favorite recipes and freeze some meals.
I also emptied my daddy’s refrigerator and unplugged it until we decide what we’re going to do with the travel trailer he lived in on our property these last 7 yrs( daddy is 88 and now lives in a Alzheimer’s unit near me.)
It is a possibility we could rent it out if we need to.
Daddy and I have also enjoyed gardening, vegetables and flowers, together until just this summer, when due to 100+ heat and his advancing mixed dementia , he couldn’t beh outside w me much😔.
My next move is to “ take inventory of my freezers and pantry”😘
    Keep the helpful advice coming.
    Thank you both!!! 8:46

You can order canned goods from Walmart online. I do that a lot when I don't feel like dealing with the public. We have found that if we weaken our coffee a bit, that it will go farther also. I also weaken my dish soap and put it into a pump container. I put 1 inch of soap to the rest water and shake slightly after closing. It will go a lot farther. If you use fabric softener sheets- cut them in half. Wear your jeans/pants a couple days if they aren't dirty. Doing less laundry will help on the water, soap and softener situation.
We have also cut down on the amount of food we eat. I have gotten smaller plates to eat on, so we feel as though we ate a whole plate full. It tricks the mind, and you are actually full. Little changes add up to a lot of big things.
    God bless.

I can see this was said in jest but skipping meals to save money is not a ‘frugal tip’ and is the sad reality for many people around the world. Many people skip meals to be able to afford other basic necessities or feed their children first.

@@Alicesgardenau actually my husbands doctor told him to do fast days. He was diagnosed with covid last July and spent three months on oxygen. He was also diagnosed with type two diabetes at the same time. He changed everything. Has lost 60 pounds and has been testing diabetes free for over a month now. A fast day is actually a good thing. If you are starving or have medical needs that would make that dangerous, then no, you wouldn't want to do fast days. My husband is logging in many miles a day walking and riding his bike. He said it's the best he's felt in years. He's working to get back down to his military weight, which is the weight he should be at for his height.

I really like your videos cause they can be extremely helpful to people who are not used to live frugal.
I never realised that I am a frugal person, because so many tips you give I've learned from my parents and just adopt them.
For stocking up my pantry I really buy a bulk when things are on sale. Most products can be stocked up for 1 or 2 or even more years. So when I get some flour (that costs o,99€ per kilo in normal times .... an now it's up to 1,99€) I really buy much more than I need in a month (because I bake bread myself I need around 4 kilos a month). Same with coffee or tea. Why not buy a years amount (that would be 12 packages for you). Is that hoarding? Maybe but in the end it's me who has to get through life with my kind of budget not someone else, right? This way whenever in the coming months stocked products are on sale again one has to buy less to hold an acceptable level of stocking. Of course this is difficult when you start by zero and you would have to spend a lot of money if you would do it for all products. But one always has to start somewhere like Hope said, one has to prioritise.
But it's not only about buying .. it's also about stop doing things. For example: the last person of our family has to shower in the bathtub and collect the water - witch later on is used to flush the toilet. We don't buy shower gel but use soap bars instead - they last longer.
We don't have paper towels any more. Instead of them we made "those" from old bed cloth and they will be washed (because it doesn't matter the washing machine has to be used anyway).
Instead of using the vaccuum cleaner take a broom, instead of buying peeling cream for your face take used coffee grounds with a scant table spoon of oil.
The hair normally doesn't need conditioner. But if you feel the need take apple vinegar.
Don't buy bottled water try water from you tub (if your water is good where you live).
When preparing meals you can always cut the recipe- for example if it says 500g of meat take 400 or 450, when it says heavy cream take milk instead and so on.
Whenever you have something in your hand that normally would go into the trash ask yourself can I use it up? For example if you are used to put the green from your cauliflower into your composter - did you know that they can be eaten? Why not making a soup our of them? With some potatoes, onions, garlic .... it's very tasty. The same goes with the green from carrots- make pesto out of it.
And have you ever realised how expensive cookies are? (I have to admit my family absolutely love a teatime with some cookie). But the main ingredient is sugar - so the best is to bake them yourself an freeze them in packages of 200g.
Don't buy books lend them at your public library or maybe your local church comunity has a library too, like ours.
Cut you social media time - man I can tell you that saves a lot of money. Instead of watching TV have a nice evening with you family and playing different games.
Whenever possible lend items. Maybe you can have your neighbours lawn mower for cleaning his back yard .
Think out of the box and be creative you will find new solutions how one can save.

For years we have spent 140 dollars a months for a cleaning service and thoroughly enjoyed this luxury. But we can save there! Hubby and I sat down and decided that if we scheduled a fixed time every week where we clean the house ourselves, every Monday morning from 9 to 10, we can eliminate this expense to offset rising prices in other areas of our budget. This amounts to 2 man hours of cleaning each week, the house has 3 floors and we will do one floor each week, so each floor gets cleaned once every 3 weeks. This is totally adequate and once we planned it out this way it was the obvious choice to save. Anyone can buckle down for one hr of cleaning!

After a phone call to each, I was able to negotiate our internet bill by $20/month, our cell phone bill by $18/month, and switched insurance companies from Nationwide to Geico -- which was $400 cheaper for a 6 month policy with same coverage. I live in a rural area of Texas and have 2 grocery stores within a reasonable travel distance, Brookshire Brothers is in my town (pop 1500) and Brookshire’s is in a town twelve miles away (pop 3400). Since Brookshire’s is so much cheaper, we do the bulk of our grocery shopping there, plus we earn points we use to get discount gas there! We do buy milk, eggs, and such at our local store when that is all I need. Sam’s and H-E-B are 50 miles away so we do shop at those about every 3 months to stock up on certain items.

It has been documented oils that have many different countries on the back of it is typically the discarded olives and other that are on the floor. Kroger best go befor 10am. Clearance rack and mark down in produce area.

Your comment about being flexible reminded me about a meal planning tip I learned recently that shocked me. I immediately thought I could NEVER do this! But, this person is feeding a family of 2 adults + 2 teens for $200/month in Florida, I think. She makes just one large supper option, one lunch option and one breakfast option per week to eat all week long!!😲 But, she is laser focussed on paying off debt. Everyone is well fed and heathy in her family, so if this works for her, then GOOD FOR HER for thinking outside the cultural norms that says you have to have variety every day in your meals. I was impressed and challenged by her determination. I can't take credit for this idea...it was from "Raising wildflowers" on TH-cam.♥️🇨🇦

Indeed advice on shopping at Costco. When is it economical to shop at Costco and for whom is Costco a good choice for general shopping? My husband and I generally cook all our meals from scratch and don’t buy processed, pre-cooked meals. We cook for ourselves but also tend to cook some meals to take to our children to share with them when we visit them and spend time with our grandchildren. Please advise because we are about to have our first Costco store in New Zealand. I’m not convinced it’s a good place for us but am open to wise counsel. Bless you.

Good job on the coffee cleanse! I do that periodically just to prove to myself I can.
Also there are some simple bbq recipes out there you can make on your own easily. So having a few on the shelf is great, but having the simple ingredients to make your own and having the skills to do that is important as well.
I didn't do the 10% challenge specifically, but we are monitoring our spending to make sure we are not being wasteful and are only spending in areas we find real worth. So far doing that and changing some providers in things we have to have like insurance has saved us annually so far $2,654 for this year! We are excited to keep looking for ways to do this further.
I always find your videos encouraging. Thank you!
