My husband was married previously. He worked 12 or more hours per day to provide for his wife and two daughters. She spent everything. Fast forward. He and I have been married 21 years. He calls me his Proverbs woman miracle. I'm very frugal. I think more needs to be said about how wives can show their husbands how much they honor and love them by preserving their hard earned money. I've been a Dave Ramsey, Larry Burkett woman my whole life. Both of my children are debt free, hardworking adults. My husband and I are so blessed.
Good for you both! Wow! That's fantastic. You are very blessed. Hope and I realized at the outset of our relationship that handling money properly was of the upmost importance in a marriage. We started by following the advice of Larry Burkett and even visited him at his studios in person while he was still alive. The Bible has all the principles we need to have a good foundation for managing money.
After we spent years paying off a $65K credit card bill, because we didn't want to say no to our kids, we now only pay cash for things. I adopted a 1 week rule, I'd go back after a week and see if I still had to have that item. 27 years later, we still have the first item I applied that rule to, our beautiful kitchen island. Lately, when I'm shopping, I hear Hope's voice saying if it's a great deal, that's what we're eating that week lol. We found some crazy good deals today and that's what we're eating this week! At first I was skeptical, now I'm living it. Thank you both!!!
I don’t think I will become a frugal person at this point in my life (though I have always lived within our means) but I have been enjoying your videos. I just like watching you guys. On this video I watched the bloopers and laughed when Larry said, “why don’t you watch Prepper Princess.” I have actually watched a few of her videos, and all I can say is, I like your happy attitude much better.
A frugal person much of my life, I did get into some online jewelry auctions where the bidding frenzy was real and it got expensive and often disappointing when it shipped. Yikes! No more. eBay was another money trap, aside from a few great buys. Life is a journey of learning and it's important to find something to be grateful for each day.
I keep re-watching y'all and Kate Kaden. I have redone some numbers and will be consumer debt free in about 4 years 🙂 So excited and so glad to have my hubby on board with this!
Hope and Larry, the issue of money destroys so many marriages when both parties aren't on the same page towards a goal-based future. I admire how you approach the future together as a loving team. ❤
Good morning on a windy day here in Ireland ☘️. Thank you for your sensible and practical tips. I love your videos, definitely workable. Love your bonus tip, fantastic idea. Best of all it cheers me up no end watching you both, so cheery and good humored ☘️🌹
Lol, I was contemplating the same $50 bundle. I was very tempted, especially since several bloggers I follow were promoting it. I finally decided that I would rather spend the 50 on a case lot sale at the grocery store. Thank you for another great video.
You two are great and I watch you all the time. I love the list idea for grocery shopping. I have a list and I love it. I cant be without it because it keeps me focused and I buy exactly what I need and no more.
Amen, Hope! I recently had a 70 pound weight loss ( thanks Covid 🤬)and went from an 28 to an 8! Even though not a healthy weight loss, I definitely had the 70 pound excess! That size 8 air of jeans 👖 felt so great!
We actually watch Prepper Princess all the time. I thought Larry's reaction was hilarious. We had a cribbage board when we were first married and played it a lot.
When something breaks I tend not to replace it. If I can't fix it I see if I can live without it. I can usually find something else that I already have that will work just as well.
I'm in a no spend rest of my life, unless something is absolutely mandatory. Ions ago, my driving instructor told me the same thing: your car will go where you're looking.
May I just tell you two, I went to 1auction, I got caught up in a bidding war! But it reached my most money I could spend, so I excused myself and went out side to cool off! My only auction ever. Love to you both!
Thank you for saying to “keep it real & not fool yourself”!! It’s harder to put expenses in front of your budget instead of in line with your budget. Learning slowly 😁 no more feeling “crummy” 😂
When I travel, I don't buy souvenirs other than an occasional post card or fridge magnet. That and my journaling or cell phone snap shots are all I need to remember the wonderful places I've been!
when you have a "frugal" person married to a spender can be hard.I finally took over and now have a savings account!! When shopping I have a list, have a time limit in the grocery store, 30 minutes from in to out, shop mostly on the outside lanes, if in inside know what I need and not dawdle, you have blinders on everything else. Thank you for all your great ideas.
I revise my shopping cart at the store before I go to the check out register and ask myself if the chosen items are really aligned with my financial and health standard and it does happen that I return things that got picked out of temptation.. also going through my things at home ( private window shopping :-) has helped me appreciate what I already have, realize that I really do not need anymore and if anything needs to be renewed or actually is missing, then it goes on my list to keep an eye out for the right thing... Thank you for all your inspiration, love it
i LOVE you're tips, some I've been doing all along. im frugal and I love that way of life. Yes- Saving, budgeting is a priority for me! Im teaching my daughter to be the same way. she's been saving $ since she was 13 (saved graduation money etc) , she's 18 now and has saved over $6000 from a lil PT job she's had for 8 months!
You're welcome, Barbara. Our channel has helped us as well. As Hope prepares these videos, we are finding new ways to save money. So glad you are getting some good out of it!
You made me lol with the Prepper Princess comment. 😂 I like her channel a lot too. Given her likeminded focus on frugalness I am sure many of your viewers will catch that and smile.
We already pay for the local library through tax dollars, yet I know many, many people who have never set foot in their library. We borrow books, magazines, dvds, music cds, (including loads of educational materials for homeschooling), and I learned to knit there, too. Our library also loans out wi-fi routers for two week periods. It's often a wasted resource.

Cannot wait to use the driving advice when my husband is driving. He not only drives where he is looking, he slows down when he is talking. Not great at multi tasking it seems 😅 Great advice as always. Feel encouraged to keep focused on the end goal.
Oh, I can so identify with your husband, Janet. I can't do two things at one time. I tell Hope to hold her thoughts when I'm driving and in a critical traffic situation. I've missed more turns because I was tuned into Hope and not into my driving!
I've discovered you not long ago and I am learning so much! I wish I had some kind of education around money. Thank you for everything. P.D. English is not my first language, so I am sorry for the mistakes.
There is a book store 3 cities away from me that sells, buys and trade used books. They also put out coupons where a person can save money on certain purchases or buy 2 get 1 deals
I can add my own '5 cents' to that :) As a frugal person I like to DIY things, especially soaps, cosmetics (like shampoos etc.) and... candles. Let's be honest, candles are a luxury that's not essential (but oh so nice). So to cut the costs of my candle making, I reuse jars and I buy soy wax and other supplies in a huge bulk. But at the end of the day, I pay NOTHING for the supplies. I always let my friends and family know that I'm going to make some candles or soaps or whatever I'm actually making so they can buy some. I price them way lower than the storebought version, of course. So my friends are happy because they have homemade candles and soaps for a fraction of price (and they can ask me to add their favorite scent, for instance) and I usually earn enough (or more!) to cover the costs of making the item in the first place. Such items are also perfect to have around to barter with someone or as gifts.
I love the fact that you work together. Unfortunately I am in a situation where I am frugal and my wife is anything but frugal! It's so frustrating. Any suggestions?
That's a difficult situation. I would begin with prayer, some good marriage counseling could help if your wife's willing. Dave Ramsey has some good videos that address this issue. Do a topical search in TH-cam. You both need to find a way to get on the same page and handle your budget by working together on it. Hope for the best for you, Tim.
I just love you two! 😂😂The bloopers!! I too refrain from buying new books. We have a wonderful library along with the Libby App where we can rent digital books from the library. However, we do have One Dollar Book Swap near us. It’s a homeschool parent’s and reader’s paradise. It’s a large warehouse of books all costing $1. And, for every 3 books books you bring, you get a $1 credit. It’s like the never ending Kohl’s cash for us cool frugal nerds! Our family’s favorite games are Where To?, Clue, Kid’s Create Absurdity, Yatzee, Monopoly, Rummy, Uno, Guess Who, Life, Family Feud, and What Do You Meme Family We recently got Titanic and Trekking Tje National Parks and we can’t figure them out 😭.
Our son let us know that our cable bill could be lower. We have had the same plan for years. We looked into it and we got faster internet and better cable package for 20 dollars less s month. It does pay to check things out. Love your channel.
Oh my goodness Larry reminds me of me. I like my list in and out. My husband hates lists and tries to walk all the isles. Drives me nuts. I try not to take him often 😂
I Love this ! I shop at super Walmart and it is dangerous, I like your tip on getting your things on the list and getting out of there. I am going food shopping on Friday. Hopefully I will be successful Lol.
When our kids were little and playing ball at the park most of our friends would go out to eat or run thru a fast food joint after the games because it would be later in the evening. I kept a cooler in the back of my van with a loaf of bread, sandwich meat, condiments, drinks, and snacks. This way I wasn’t caving to the concession stand or going out to eat.
I know the bundle you are talking about. 🌱It was tempting me for 10 days, but I used your same reasoning and didn’t buy it either. Plenty of free recipes out here! Thanks for all your great information and ideas!
I gave in, duh, many of the recipes I already had in the million other recipe books I own❗🤦🏼♀️Impulse buying, saw the one recipe I could not live w/out❗🥺
Don't feel bad, Diane. My finger was definitely on the "Buy" button. Mainly I thought the webinars and trainings looked helpful. Also, there were so many products in that bundle that you will probably still have a lot of new recipes to try.
My 10 year old son & I were playing Monopoly for over 5 hours yesterday… even went out to dinner with hubby & while he went back to work, we went back home & played more of our game… didn’t finish it but we had a blast playing it!!! (Hubby was at his 2nd job he got for the perks for him & said 10 yr old… @ the ice rink… helps to pay for hockey gear & all of their ice time… the perks are so worth it lol.. & right now he is helping them redo the back rink & fixing walls & learning all of the ropes on how to get it put back together after 1 of the former employees did something stupid & ruined a wall last season… so while he didn’t HAVE to be there… he was definitely making bank while being there & learning how to do new things… which he loves 😂)
Hi! We are still working through our last few bills--we just moved into a different house! Our favorite games our Apples to Apples and playing “Hearts” (card game)!
One thing I do that always helps me a lot is, even if I have cash in hand designated for personal fun spending, I will ask myself, "Will buying this thing enrich your life?". That little question saves me money, and allows me to spend my fun money wisely. Whether your life is enriched by art, music, or even knitting things for the family, you get more life-enrichment for your buck when you set those standards high.
Hello Hope & Larry, I think about Things to buy .24 hours. And mostly I don' t really need Them. We Love to Play rummikub. And Take a Walk with Friends . Love That. Then you have time to Talk. And enjoy the sun ,and the fresh Air👍👍.
Super, Marianne. Hope and I really got to know each other during our dating years by taking long walks and communicating. I haven't played Rummikub in years, but it's a fun game!
Automation is a double-edged sword though. I’ll respect that everyone can imagine potential problems. Starting with giving control to electronic systems that can go offline/collapse/be hacked into…I personally like to handle my money. Just takes discipline.
I keep a dollar tree switch with AAAbatteries, I wake up and it's within my grasp. I carry it to restroom. I have them around the house. You need good batteries. I use them when I walk the dog at night so he and I can see. Great to keep in dark places. Out of 13 fuses I turn off 10, except for necessities.
We love Clue! We have a couple of versions of it. Larry usually wins by sheer luck - he just guesses really well, while the rest of us have a "system" for narrowing down the right answer.
Hi darlings, I make my own calendar on the door every week. I painted the door of my kitchen with blackboard paint and with chalk you simply draw some lines and make your weekly planner. It costs you no paper, no ink for your printer and no electricity. At the end of the week put a damp cloth over it and you can make a new one. Also works on kitchen cabinets or refrigerator, handy to make your shopping list on it. And it looks nice too, with colored chalk a flower or a smiley 😊😊
Roof shopping. It is a strange time, and I suspect if you really need something, now is probably the best time to get it done, if inflation continues as expected. * My roof needs to be replaced due to wear (no leaks!). No one knows anything about how old the roof might be. I was told when I bought the house six years ago that the roof might last 7-9 years, and that it had the low end 3-tab asphalt shingles on it. I've been saving for a new roof for six years. With the storms, high winds, and hail over the past two years, and hearing that asphalt shingles are now in short supply, I decided to get it done, as soon as possible. I sought three bids for roof replacement with Class 4, 30-year shingles. I knew I was probably going to have to wait for shingles to become available. The bids were dramatically different even though the roof is intact, considered easy to roof, and everyone was pricing the same OC Weatherguard HP Gray shingles. All three companies are very reputable and known in the community for decades. The lowest bid came in at $9075; No. 2 was $11500, No. 3 was $12000. All came with the same point-by-point install criteria, a five year work and labor warranty, and would leave shingles behind for future repairs. The low bid company said they believed they could get the shingles in 4-6 weeks. The other two roofing companies said 4-6 months wait time. I have no way of knowing what is really happening, but I do know each of the companies uses the same roofing supply distributor. I don't know why the supply delay time quoted was so different from one company to another. * I finally decided I wasn't afraid to take the low bid with the 4-6 week wait for the shingles. I got a signed contract, put down half to make sure the shingles were ordered this week, and now we wait. I have no idea what shingles will cost in a few months, or what will be available. Sometimes, you have to try to get ahead of a problem. Now, the fat lady has not sung (the job is not done, we are waiting for shingles), but maybe, just maybe, the contract will hold, the price of the shingles will not go up, and the job will be done by the end of April. We shall see.
We order shutters in December and they came in and installed at the beginning of May. I was worried that we were forgotten, so I called in March and she knew me even though they were working with my husband.
Many festivals are free or low cost if you pack your own food. And when the kids were little I d get "souvenirs" at the dollar store and then give them to my kids at the event... Glow sticks for 4th of July events... Ect.....
My kids love Sneaky Snacky Squirrel. You spin and then have to collect the corresponding colored acorn. Then there's a game about chickens. You have to work together to gather the chicks. You won together or lose together, and you have to watch out for that sneaky fox! I should mote, my kids are 4 and 5. We also like to break into teams and play Life. Oh, and who could forget Candy Land.
Oh my gosh! Candy Land!! We probably wore out the playing board. I love that game. It will forever remind me of when my boys were young. It was one of the first games they could understand how to play.
Here in Europe the price of a gallon of gas is now over 10 $. All money you can save now goes now into your car. The food and fuel prices in the US are a just dream. All prices are going higher every day. We are living frugal on a very small pension and all along it went brilliant. But now we begin to struggle. And it will be getting worser. The war in Ukraine is a catastrophe for the people there and compared to their situation I am a lucky one. But poor people all over Europe have to decide if they want to eat or to heat their houses. Thanks a lot for your channel.
So sorry for you all in Europe. Hope and I know you have it a lot harder than we do here. We're all struggling to cope. Every little bit to save money helps.
@@larryware1 Absolutely! Today's price was €2,38 for a liter. For us it's still working. We have a garden to grow our own food, live debt and mortgage free in our own house on the countryside and as artists we don't have to go to work by car, we are working at home. But who buys a picture with a war at the doorstep? A Ukrainian woman will join us and maybe we are able to help a bit.
If I see something I really like I put it in the cart and then close it out without buying. Many places will come back in a few days with a discount code to encourage you to buy it. Then I open it and say do I REALLY need this. Sometimes I do get it but most of the time I don’t.
Love all of these tips, especially the bonus tip! I must give that a try. A game my family played recently and highly recommend is Telestrations. I have never laughed so hard playing a game.
love your videos question i auto mate my bills but i have a few that charge a surcharge should i disenroll and just get a bill in the mail and write a check and mail in my check ? to save $25 to $50 a year?
Have been making dinner for the past 3 months with what's in freezer and pantry went to Albertson's got 100 dollars of meat for the next 2 months and saved 83 dollars in coupons saved 46 percent
This just happened to me, so I don't know if Amazon does it often. I needed a Kindle book for my book club - none of the libraries (I belong to several) had this book. It was 4.99. I put it in my wish list. I came back and looked at it the next day (yesterday), and Amazon had dropped the price to 1.99 - I bought it. I looked at the price again this morning (day 3), and it was back up to 4.99. It might be worth experimenting to see if Amazon does this often. I try not to buy any books, so I don't know.
Hi Larry & Hope! Been subscribed a while and rarely miss a video! I've only commented once before, but to sum it up again, my partner and I are both high earners (but I still love and adopt much advice from you guys). Have you guys done a video or would you consider doing one on how you guys "got on the same page" in terms of finances, frugality and achieving shared goals? While we both save and invest faithfully, we could do more if we could align better. While I'm grateful we're high earners, I want to be very high savers and sometimes we don't align on how frugal we should really be because of our income level and current savings and investing.

Do a topical search in TH-cam. You both need to find a way to get on the same page and handle your budget by working together on it. Hope for the best for you, Tim.
Just cut the credit card!
So glad to see you tonight..
I hang my clothes out on a closeline outside i save 20bucks amonth on my electric bill
thank *U* both n god bless *U*
“Crum cakes make you feel crummy.” Good one, Larry!😆
Wow! You are well supplied, Dawn! Love that book story, too!
My 7 year old son & I love playing Clue!!! Puzzles, card games like Uno, slap jack, & Mexican dominoes!!!
Our son let us know that our cable bill could be lower. We have had the same plan for years. We looked into it and we got faster internet and better cable package for 20 dollars less s month. It does pay to check things out. Love your channel.
Good for you and your son!
Luv the bonus, thanks for sharing. You two are so adorable.
Thank you, Cat B. We love sharing what we've learned.
Oh my goodness Larry reminds me of me. I like my list in and out. My husband hates lists and tries to walk all the isles. Drives me nuts. I try not to take him often 😂
LOL! Sometimes I think Hope would rather leave me at home as I have no patience for shopping.
I’m loving your videos. I started my Channel to keep me accountable to my budgeting :)
Super!
Love watching your videos and glean so many great ideas into my frugal lifestyle. Thanks for another great video!
Having frugal friends helps so much! Expensive friends bust your budget every weekend!
Really glad to be watching this video today...positive reinforcement and saving me from myself!
I was in town yesterday, I thought about grabbing some fast food but remembered I have left overs that are good for me and the budget.
Good for you!
I Love this ! I shop at super Walmart and it is dangerous, I like your tip on getting your things on the list and getting out of there. I am going food shopping on Friday. Hopefully I will be successful Lol.
Love the 10% challenge! Love you guys. Thank you ❤️
You are so welcome, Christina! Blessings.
Tabu is so fun. We play it at church.
I gave in, duh, many of the recipes I already had in the million other recipe books I own❗🤦🏼♀️Impulse buying, saw the one recipe I could not live w/out❗🥺
That is what I have discovered. Most new cookbooks just keep repeating the same old recipes. Very boring.
Don't feel bad, Diane. My finger was definitely on the "Buy" button. Mainly I thought the webinars and trainings looked helpful. Also, there were so many products in that bundle that you will probably still have a lot of new recipes to try.
Thank you for all the advice and I appreciate your honesty!
I think I know which bundle you are speaking if! I too discerned it and decide that at present I have more recipes than I can handle! 😃
I wanted that bundle too, and did the same thing.
Hi!
We are still working through our last few bills--we just moved into a different house!
Our favorite games our Apples to Apples and playing “Hearts” (card game)!
We've played Hearts before. It's been a really long time, though.
Good practice, Orla!
I'm not into Prepper Princess, that's why I'm subscribed here.
We're glad you are with us, Candie.
Fantastic video thanks for all the effort ye put in
Thank you, Siobhan!
Love the blooper !!!!
Thank you, Karen!
Hello Hope & Larry,
I think about Things to buy .24 hours.
Oh my gosh, this was the best ever blooper! 😂
Best shows you have is when people in the comments give tips
We love those tips, Diana. Our very next program (Thursday's) will be filled with them.
I love it ...it very smart .
Love you guys great advice thank you xx
Awe, thank you, Kerry!
Love playing rummy. And Monopoly and the board game Clue.
We love Clue! We have a couple of versions of it. Larry usually wins by sheer luck - he just guesses really well, while the rest of us have a "system" for narrowing down the right answer.
lol Iove watching Prepper Princess!
Y'all are the best! Keep making great content!
Thank you, Christine. Preppper Princess is about as down to earth and practical as they come!
Hi darlings,
I make my own calendar on the door every week.
Our favorite board game is Ticket to Ride.
I've heard that it totally fun. We don't have it, but I think some of the boys' friends have it.
@@UndertheMedian My favorite is the European one.
Size 6, yes!
Call your homeowners insurance and see who they recommend for this
We order shutters in December and they came in and installed at the beginning of May. I was worried that we were forgotten, so I called in March and she knew me even though they were working with my husband.
I love you guys, God bless you,
Larry deserves some Marshmallow Chocolate Cookies
LOL! Larry's famous "cookie love" video.
If you have seen 'Storage Wars', it is crazy, the auction bids they put in. Sometimes they profit, sometimes they lose money.
Prayers for all, we are all affected in some ways. No man is an island.
@@lavieestduresansconfiture4939 - we can only hope and pray that the situation in Ukraine ends soon. Blessings to you!
Telestrations is a hilarious game 😆 we also like Farkle and Ticket to Ride! Thanks for the tips from one of my favorite couples ☺️
Thank you, Heather. Blessings!
Hubby and I like to play Sequence and Yahtzee. Easy for two people to play.
If I see something I really like I put it in the cart and then close it out without buying. Many places will come back in a few days with a discount code to encourage you to buy it. Then I open it and say do I REALLY need this. Sometimes I do get it but most of the time I don’t.
That blooper at the end! No spoilers here, but I laughed my head off!
Love all of these tips, especially the bonus tip! I must give that a try. A game my family played recently and highly recommend is Telestrations. I have never laughed so hard playing a game.
Thank you, Heather. We've never played Telestrations. We'll have to try it!
Hi Larry and Hope,
Can you talk about Dave Ramsey's new book
"Baby Steps Millionaire" the book you are reading?
My favorite board game?fragle rock. Very popular game in the 1980's.
Larry, I have tons of books, too
We don't play that game. Wasn't that a TV show, too?
@@UndertheMedian yes.
love your videos question i auto mate my bills but i have a few that charge a surcharge should i disenroll and just get a bill in the mail and write a check and mail in my check ? to save $25 to $50 a year?
Amazon does this often. When I want something, I check back a few times a day for a while. Often times, it's much lower.
We can do a video on that topic. We did one, but It's been a long time ago.
Was this the plant based bundle???? I went back and forth as well, and didn’t pull the trigger either! Lol!
Yes. I very nearly bought it. There were so many things that looked interesting in it. My sister bought it. So, she'll tell me what I missed.
E payments are the best !!! Here’s a fun tip- bought a $50 fire stick, cancelled the $30 a month th HBO - bang! An extra $300. Year!!!
That bit at the end cracked me up! 😂😂😂
Thank you! We are just starting to put more of these on at the end. Hope and I have a lot of fun together.
