not all pro's play what their given, If that ball was that much better, some would give it a go. unless in their own testing, or more precise, they get the metal swing swing machine to do the testing, they find it's not that different.
I really like the trend with people quiting the big brand's over priced gear for the equal in quality new golf brands. We have had enough of the $50-$60 a dozen balls and the $1000+ golf clubs
James, I have been watching you for years all the way from Hawaii. I must say you are top 10 TH-cam golf creators on the internet. You and your friends are doing nothing but helping the game of golf.
I've been watching James and Chris for years and started playing Seed balls two years ago when James first started putting them in play. I prefer the SD-01 and love them. Great performance and value.
I used the seed ball for about six months. The SD01. I’ve got to admit that it was a very very good ball. The reason I actually left my subscription from seed was that they could never honour my delivery every two months. I had to constantly chase them up because they never had any stock, but I was a subscriber to the product as that was the way to get the cheapest price. I pay about £5 more and get a dozen of premium Bridgestone balls instead. Never a shortage of those and I’ve now got to the point now that I might only lose 1 ball a round at most so willing to pay a tad more.
@@CinemaSteveTour B X . If your swing speed is a bit slower- Tour RX is more suitable. Had a few boxes(Bridgestone)but have just checked the price. Have to buy 3 boxes to get at £35 a dozen now.
Thank you James for another great vid. Really informative on the seed golf ball v a premium golf ball which a lot of older golfers can't afford the later. Golf is a game to be enjoyed, not worrying if you're going to put £4.50 in water or out of bounds.
Appreciate all the work you put in to new equipment and putting it through your genuine thoughts with us mere mortals. If quality with a good affordable price can play a factor that’s great. And maybe get the big brands to give us a break in the hip pocket.
Put it up against another DTC ball! Legato is a great ball at a price of $24-$29 /doz. 3 piece urethane cover ball. Would love to see that comparison. Play Legato’s now and love them.
I am happy for people to continue to buy middle to premium balls new. I simply buy mine used from a couple of online used ball retailers. As a med-high handicapper I have no need to spend £2+ on a ball. If I ever feel the need to buy brand new I'll be buying from DTC manufacturers like Seed or Vice (although Vice are not that cheap).
Only really been good enough last 6 months to comment on something like this, playing the pro v 1 is game changer. Durability, stopping power and flight . I lose the odd ball but have found nothing to replace it , can’t wait to test the new 2025 pro v 1 soon . New tp5 is also good , better in the wind . If your on a budget or loose 3-4 balls a round , seed is a good alternative in my opinion but a direct replacement.
I’ve been using seed sd 02 since about July. It’s a fantastic ball very comparable to the the premium TM balls imo. It’s a no brainer in terms of the cost and the quality of ball you are getting
Only really been good enough last 6 months to comment on something like this, playing the pro v 1 is game changer. Durability, stopping power and flight . I’m just trying to use same ball to be fair as I don’t lose many but I’m certainly not that good to know difference between mid price and expensive just that range balls and are terrible and inconsistent and so can lake balls be lol
Low handicap players buy golf balls based on how they perform from wedge to putter. Its more about feel and performance on and around the green. I pick up / find enough prov1 balls throughout the year to play in my casual rounds. I usually buy 2 dozen new a season. This year was cool because i picked up another couple dozen in gift bags at benefit tournaments. Some of my buddies buy the grade a "recycled " ones , which is another good option.
Almost pulled the trigger on some Seeds but Srixon Z star diamond came on special for less than the Seed. I like that you can have you logo on the Seed golf balls but printing is not available in Australia. Company logo for sponsoring golf days
Hey James😁 What's the chance of you getting a fourball with Alex Etched and Dan Hendrikson when you are abroad in the near future??? Pushing 300K! Top work!
If you're looking for courses to play for your next 100 tour, I suggest the course I play at which is Brett Vale, just outside of Ipswich. Massively underrated and also a pretty unknown gem of a course, you should check it out if possible mate 👍🏻
I have bought the Seed balls, SDX1, SD01 and SD02, I have a Trackman setup in my garage and they are all great balls when compared to the Pro V1/x. They are just hard to get hold of…..
Hi mate how durable are they? Do they scuff easily or scratch in the bunkers? Also how soft does it feel to the chrome tour which I think is a fantastic golf ball. Thanks
Been playing the SD-15 and honestly bought in bulk (looses) for best deal. Know they are cheaper ones, but honestly I enjoyed them more than SD-01 or SD-02. Plan to just stick with one ball; but may have to try X1 with Jack marking on them as well.
Another Left Dash competitor? I know Callaway have released one. If a company could get you left dash distance with green side spin, that would be my secret sauce ball 🤙
As long as the ball is consistent every time with numbers. A lot of ppl chop and change ball to often buy 1 box off seed then next box is a taylormade. As James and chris have said b4 you need to try for a few months with the same ball
In Australia, you can’t really try any of the DTC balls because they cost so much for a dozen, ie about the same as Pro Vs, so effectively they’re just another premium priced ball. To get a reasonable price, you need to buy 3 or 4 dozen, which no average golfer will do without testing them first … I would suggest they need local distributors that sell sleeves of 3 balls if the want us to try/test them.
I’ve never tried a Seed ball, but I think I found a cheap go to ball. The Legato ball off Amazon is fantastic. On Prime Day they were $24 a box. Great ball that’s durable, spins good, has nice distance, and just overall a nice ball. $24 a box is a great deal too. On the flip side, Seed ball boxes are $35.
Jimbob whats your thoughts on this. Typical run of the mill aversge golfer - play off 18, average speed 140-145 ball for driver.... Would an sd1 be wasted on me and should i be getting a 2 piece ball like the sd-15/ad333 ?
Thanks James. I’d play them. I find ProV1 balls and give the $4.60 ball as a tip to the cart girl. I play Costco balls. I want something that doesn’t feel like a brick. I also play the Taylormade Tour Response. They are cheaper at the golf course shop.
They are a good ball but to get the low price you need to buy a lot. You can get the same price and quantity without spending £120 for taylormade response or Wilson even cheaper both great balls.
I would like to try Seed balls, actually I tryed to order 01s and bag which I like very much. But the problem is that it is not possible to buy even rhey are officialy in EU. I can pick country but not set the address. So no possible shipping.
The only issue I’ve ever had with DTC balls is the durability. I’ve played a ProV1 for 12 rounds in a row before still had the tacky feel until I lost it! I don’t think I’ve ever gotten 2 rounds out of a DTC ball before. I also have struggled to find a ball that can preform like a ProV1 too. Either they lack distance or they lack spin around the screen, and more often than not they lack in both areas. As much as I dislike paying the prices for ProV1s, nothing has ever checked the boxes for me. Vice Pro Plus is the closest!
Ive being seeing and hearing about Seed more and more. Im a Vice Pro player, but their prices are slowly going up and up which defeats the point (besides the amazing designs). Maybe I'll give the Seed a try.
Love the channel but in fairness i have to say that you called this the pro v1 killer but the balls you hit against it were callaway chromesoft (another good very expensive ball but not a pro v1). Personally i use srixon z star whenever i buy balls i buy 6 or 8 dozen at once (they last me 2 years maybe a little longer if I'm lucky but buying that many i get them for about £36 a dozen. Brilliant ball and i would put it against any ball. You have to keep an eye out online and grab a deal when it comes up but they do come up every year and its a great way to get a top ball cheap (pro v1 never sold cheaply)
Tried on trackman I was around 7 yards shorter with those balls vs a prov1 for reference my driver wing speed averages high 120mph range but wasn’t as good in my opinion the best budget ball on market currently from a low handicap high swing speed player is the vice
I was going to sign up for a subscription, if I lived in war torn Lebanon I’d be ok. Unfortunately, I live in the tropical paradise known as the Philippines, not on the drop down for country/region for shipping.
I know many golfers who are absolutely wedded to the Pro V1 and remain completely unaware of or interested in DTC brands. There is no competitor out there that will 'kill' the top brands - they might just steal a small section of the market.
@@chrisgirling1097 That's great to hear. I meant in general though. All of these guys talk about giant killers but rarely seem to use them. Or so it seems.
I’m surprised you guys don’t both carry brushes to clean the grooves between shots. Mine clips on a ring on the bag and has bronze bristles on one side and plastic ones on the other. Nothing fancy, basic and inexpensive.
I'm not really sure what an expensive premium ball means to a high handicapper like me compared to a good, cheaper ball but for 20 bucks a dozen difference, give me the seed x1's all day.
I am going to say after 30 years of golf, Titleist Pro V line are the best golf balls and the gold standard. There is no equal when it comes to performance. Other balls come close at a cheaper price, which is good enough for me for the casual rounds and betting rounds. Tournaments and especially big bragging rights Scrambles, I definitely bring the Pro Vs
Let’s be honest, quality, distance, feel and cost are all really important. But the one thing that Seed cannot compete with TP5/ProV1 s on is clubhouse snobbery. They used to say that if you put a BMW badge on a skip, they would still sell like hot cakes just so badge snobs could flash the key fob in the bar. I’m afraid the same is true with golf balls, and indeed clubs.
my favorite balls are: Callaway Chrome Soft, Titleist AVX, Wilson Duo. However, as I'm a 15 handicap, not really enough difference in any of the balls i hit... I do like the balls with gimmicks printed on them, from flags, to pix, to hot dogs, or doggies...lol
Came to the comments to look for the guy that always says he only plays the prov1s he finds because everyone else is bad at golf and dumb for buying new balls.
It's probably a fine choice for weekend golfers. But not consistent enough for better players. They wouldn't be selling them so cheap if they could sell them for a higher price. Nobody in business leaves money on the table if they can help it.
Short answer, nope it's not going to happen. The old models scuffed very easy and did not feel the same off the club as the Prov1x. If you lose a lot of golf balls, by all means get the cheaper one as longevity doesn't matter.
The left and right ends of of the bottom row on your comparison chart are blocked by icons. I assume the bottom row is listing the comparable balls to each Seed model. However, for the last column (SD-X1), I see Pro V1, (everything else is blocked). What is a tour launch angle. Is it high, low, what? I assume it is relatively high. The chart says the SD-02 has a low launch angle. You said it went high. You said you liked the SD-05, but the chart says it has a high launch which you don't want. There are others. Your commentary and the chart are contradictory in a number of places.
Tbh for the average golfer there's almost no difference. I just picked up a dozen premium 2023 balls for under £30 which is my price point. I love wilson balls, fg tour, triad fantastic balls. Also I'd rather buy an older model club with a better spec. Upgraded shaft etc.
Respectfully, the numbers show that the Seed is lacking compared to the premium brands. It's ok for a golfer looking for "good enough" but not acceptable for a golfer looking to maximize their performance.
Good balls for the money but they aren’t in the same league as the top brands, which your test showed. However the average golfer isn’t good enough to tell the difference but tour pros will which is why they don’t use them
This may be a strange reason for not buying Seed golf balls. But their comparison chart doesn't make sense, I think they compare their balls to the wrong competitors balls, ie, the Titleist AVX is a lower launching lower trajectory ball, but they compare it to their higher launch and higher trajectory SD-05 balls, same with the SD-02 balls being compared to the ProV1x and TP5x. Strange reason, but made me stay away.
For the average hacker out there, the guy that maybe plays once a week and doesn't practice much, they should be using cheaper balls and the brand doesn't matter. Until you have a very consistent swing with all your clubs you won't see any notable difference. I have a few friends that live on golf courses and they give me dozens of balls and most of them have only been hit once or twice. Buying second hand balls online is also a great way to save money. As expensive as golf is, save a little money and get out and just enjoy yourself.
Riiiight, wonder why pros arent using this ball then... 🤡
Trust me if seed paid the money the big brands paid the pro’s they would… 🤡
Pros play what they're paid to play.
not all pro's play what their given, If that ball was that much better, some would give it a go. unless in their own testing, or more precise, they get the metal swing swing machine to do the testing, they find it's not that different.

However the average golfer isn’t good enough to tell the difference but tour pros will which is why they don’t use them
Another pro v1 killer? Hasn't there been like 20 of these videos? I think you're making the premium balls more popular
I don’t think anyone wants to pay $60 a box for balls. So there’s a constant search for a similar ball that regular folks can afford.
Why dont you do that with your clu s ? Just like you said if it's good enough just don't understand
unless u buy a ton of them or sign up for the subscription, its only a couple dollars different. $47 dollars for a dozen delivered smh
I've never retired a ball.. they all just quit and commit suicide in lakes, creeks, woods or hide in high grass .. 🤣😂🤣
