Fun fact or apocryphal "fan theory" that I could not track the source of is that the author of Youjo Senki was one of the players of that group. The fact they are really good friends now gives credibility to that story.
Adore this series, and it's a little late but I gotta mention a quick thing or two (no spoilers) that will help your enjoyment, from the light novels that get glossed over real quick here. First, he's from a dystopian corporate hellscape of a world. Think if all business regulations were stripped. The air is nearly poison, and companies basically own you. That's why he is so enamored with the sky. Second, he's extremely paranoid and cautious. Him acting like the big bad ruler, asking what the npcs thought of him, testing out his spells, trying to contact a GM, all that stuff is him being afraid they would turn on him the second they realized they had free will and he wasn't a literal god which is what they basically think of all the supreme beings (the players that designed them). So he thinks he has to act in a way that they would expect a supreme being to act. Keep those two things in mind while you watch the series and so many things will make more sense. There is of course plenty more, but you don't need to know how many levels of Imp you had to take to get to the succubus race in order to enjoy the show. (Still highly recommend the read though)
The only thing I dislike about the anime Overlord is that it can skip over stuff and miss some important details that the light novel goes into. This is quite a common thing with light novel adaptations where they skim over stuff to focus heavily on progressing the story. You gain a lot more insight into the MC's thought process and get details on the actual fucked up real world he comes from as well as the RPG and guild he played with. However saying that I still recommend Overlord for people to get into it and than pick up the light novels if it interest's you. Also Overlord is getting a movie and a new season to continue the story because it is still insanely popular.
Ya the show kinda plays like it assumes you’ve read the LN in some parts lol, but honestly it’s not that noticeable in the first season, it’s in the 2nd & 3rd where there’s a few parts where your like “what does that mean” or “why did this character do this” that make more since in the LN. But most reactions I’ve seen of this usually have LN readers in the comments answering ur questions so that’ll help & honestly I didn’t really look into the LN until I finished the show and still thought it was awesome
It does misadapts some details and misses some, but it's great overall. The only thing truly bad about is the disgusting abomination called s3 that was crapped out with 0 care. Then the poorly and wrongly adapted parts and 0 time and care hit rock bottom and were a constant thing. It's unfortunate more seasons are coming if they are anything like s3. That only serves to destroy the experience for people and spoil things for if they potentially read the novels.
I come from the future (S4 episode 3) to remember that these two did in fact know who momonga was but forgot it because it hasn't been used since he changed his name to Ainz Ool Gown. Albedo according to the script that he changed loves Momonga.
Yooo finally let’s go 🔥 7-8 year hiatus finally gonna be over in January I think. I cannot wait this used to be my favorite anime and was one of my first animes. Also first Isekai and I love pretty much all Isekais now lol
It's a great anime overall, but it's based on MMOs and DnD. When you are in one class, you can't use things from another class. So he is a Mage, he can't normally wear armor, wield swords, etc. But he used a Mage skill to mimic the warrior class. Think of HQ as a dungeon. And each floor is it's own magical space, like the 6th floor has a ceiling, but it doesn't look like it. It's a great way to start an isekai though. Imagine a game in which you've played since day one, grinded with your friends all the way to being the strongest guild in the game, all of the coolest gear, then when the game server's shutdown, you ARE the your character in the game. Everything becomes real, including all of the NPCs that follow you. And they all have their own unique personalities and traits copied from the friends you had that created them in the game. The first two episodes gives a lot, but not any context. I would say just enjoy the ride and don't worry about the evil guys and the story flying along. It does that enough with what was skipped.
This series is amazing. Glad you guys are watching it. Also, it's not said very well in the anime but his spell "Perfect Warrior" changes his stats into that of the warrior class. So he has all the stats of a level 100 warrior and can use all their items but he has no warrior skills and cannot use his normal magic. Basically the spell just changes him from using spells to using special abilities imbued in magical items.
Incredible anime, definitely recommend looking into small details like the leveling system and the world ainz came from out of the game, or even things like nazarick characters and guild members

Yes it gets better every season (character & story development) 2. it will get lot darker & political that most will drop it just because it’s too edgy 3. if you could finish to S3 and enjoys it then I’d recommend you to read the Novel because Overlord is one among few where the Novel is far Better than the Manga & Anime (at least in my opinion)

It's amazing how much studio madhouse butchered one of the most popular LNs out currently with their anime, which is "Overlord", with the show feeling incredibly rushed in terms of production, with terribly choreographed fights and horrendous CGI. Doubly shocked if you enjoyed the anime and are ALSO a light novel reader, since the show skips a TON of world building, and most importantly characterization, and backgound info for MUCH of the cast.

Unfortunately, I can ALSO do this for the MAJORITY of episodes between the three seasons we have available currently, so there's no way for me to fill you in all the details with out writing a MASSIVE essay. Heck, If you look at reaction videos of people watching Overlord season 2 and 3 specifically and read the comments you'll see fans of the LN trying to explain in more detail what happened in each episode, and as someone who is a MASSIVE fan of the LN who owns most of the books released, this was terrible adaption of the source material. One of the things that annoys me the most is the fact that because the anime doesn't go over the characterization of certain characters, it creates an image of individuals that isn't justified. For example, I hate that Demiurge and Solution get hate from anime only's for all the evil and inhumane things they do in the series EX: rape, and killing of children through experiments. The reason I say I'm annoyed is because MOST of the denizens of Nazarick are EVIL AS HELL, with many of them who would take pleasure in torturing humans regardless if the human is innocent or not, and there's even some that get a a kick in RAPING them for fun, ex:(shalltear). Make no mistake, most of Nazarick would be perfectly fine with eliminating humanity, and this includes women and children, with some exceptions including Aura, Mare, and Cocytus who are neutral, meaning while they don't necessarily hate humanity, there NOT going to argue if Ainz decides to wipe them out all together either. (Cocytus, only wanted the lizardmen spared because he respected them as warriors, not as morally upstanding individuals). Only Sebas, Yuri and Petsonya are the morally good ones, but here's the thing. These three good people are LITERALLY less than 1% of Nazarick. And one of the MANY things the anime fails to convey is this dark aspect. A shame too since the main draw for a lot of people of Overlord is that it's a dark fantasy where the Villains are the protagonists who are overpowered and wreak havoc in this new world, but the anime glosses over these details from the light novel. This also includes Ainz being evil, since he stated in the books that regardless of what horrible things his surbordinates do, if someone were to kill one of them he would show them no mercy, this includes Demiurge and Solution. And even goes along with the evil plans Demiurge and Albedo come up with as the series goes on. It's cool that your enjoying it though.
