Sam Cooke figured this out years. When he went solo he started his own record label as well as his OWN publishing company so that him and every artist that signed to get their money.
The music industry is ran by Freemasons. It’s just like a job. You have employees and then management, then the board room. The Freemasons are the board room of mainstream media, the rappers we see are the employees. You need money for a lawyer . That’s why most people don’t make it. They lack the financial support. Get yourself a Jewish lawyer from NY. PAY him to work for you. He will get you in contact with them. But it cost thousands. They won’t even talk too you if you don’t have at least 30k ..Especially if you don’t have anything Unique about you. You have to set yourself up as a business. Be realistic. Why should they invest their TIME in you? What’s special about you ? Do people want to be you? Do people believe you? What makes you stand out in an ocean full of artist? Can you sell to kids? Don’t get rapped up with these videos bro. Be realistic and logical. You do understand that the music industry is designed to keep you stuck in the material world. It’s a weapon. You want to be part of that? Why when the artist themselves purposely make bad music Bc they don’t make money from it. It’s for soulless selfish people. Artist themselves tell fans that you don’t want to be in this business. It’s called the money game, not the music industry. Real niggas know this. T.I started with 50k. But that was 20 years ago. Now, you’ll need about $150k. If you can’t match their loan why TF WOULD THEY WANT TO INVEST TIME IN YOU? nigga you THAT talented?
Thanks for taking the time out to make this vid on such a tricky subject. Over years, many Multiplatinum Producers have said to only sign the "Admin" and never the "Co-Pubs." Reason being is they themselves never got the rest of the Forever Money that they should have been paid in the first place. Respect to you, Brother Dorian. 💯💯💯💯💯
So you don't get paid writers share from the song?I was under the impression that you give 100 of your publishing and keep 100 of the writers share. Which supposedly be a 50/50 deal. They pitch your music and get you placements and yall both get paid 🤔
Great video. We at Laneway never recommend our artists sign a publishing deal as rights organizations can do the same for you and you are never locked in. The idea publishers will market your song is laughable. We see them simply as collection facilitators who are dinosaurs in this new digital age. We do a lot of sync and even that can now be done via sites dedicated to this. We can say so much more but you are doing it so power to you.
Even when artists do get paid big, you can guarantee that the label is making much more. The media criticized REM for signing a $80 million deal in 1996 (like they were being greedy) and they were like "Our label has made $350 million off of us. $80 million is about 25 percent of that. You think we're not entitled to 25 percent of our own CD sales? Fuck you."
It sucks that I can’t post any of my songs until I not only finish my album but own a publishing company. That’s the only way that I want to play. But it will be so worth it. Probably will be working on another album next time around. It’s hard to learn everything from scratch

Another great video! Would love to know your thoughts on Distribution Deals. From what I'm seeing with several industry contacts, the momentum seems to be shifting to more pure Distribution deals. I'm a fan of Symphonic Distribution for young artists and BMG for some of the more established partnerships.
dude that's a great video. I love your detail and flow, checked out your website, 1,000 USD is just too much for me with regard to course relating to how to promote music.
Hmmm so let's say you do a publishing deal they give u a advance for your future earnings if they take more than the advance that they gave you, you can audit them correct
