- India is holding the largest democratic election in history. It stretches over a period of 45 days. The election kicked off a week ago with the first of seven election phases. Now phase two is getting underway with polling across 13 States and union territories. A total of 88 seats in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, are being contested.
Incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking a rare third term. His Hindu-nationalist BJP party is also aiming for a super-majority, which could empower his coalition to change the constitution. Modi's challengers in the INDIA alliance are seeking to end his rule, but are struggling to find a message that resonates. DW’s Adil Bhat went to two neighboring constituencies in northern India to get a taste of what's at stake.

Dear DW, let me ask a question. Does Germany offers separate laws for their minorities, which will be governed by themselves instead of the constitution and you courts ? If the answer is No, then you will understand the pain of Indians in the hands of Congress for several decades under the garb of secularism.

Not a single riot or a law and order situation in my native post 2017 when Yogi started to crack down on Mafias. Seems like the chamchas suffer from short term memory loss. After 30 +years congress party in power it was a relief that another party ( BJP) came to power. If Modi wanted to change the constitution, he could have done it easily in the past years. He has had a majority for the last 10 years. Getting a majority in a 3rd term is no different than the past 2 terms. German journalists need to start using their brain and logic.

@@teardrop-in-a-fishbowl 1st , the GDP per capita is 2410 USD as per 2022 report, 2nd check inflation of ur country and India and than compare , GDP per capita may be different but cost of living is way less here , if people earn INR 50k - 60k(around 590 USD) monthly here , people can live comfortably in tire-2 or 3 cities, and In metro cities(tier 1) if cost of living a bit higher, people earn more than tire 2 and 3 cities there. Anyways we need to work on that and pull more people out of poverty in to the middle class , that's the goal here and we are working on it , we pull around 400 million people out of poverty since 2015, we don't care what west think about us. And don't underestimate Indian voters. In my opinion BJP will struggle to cross 310 out of 543 seats. Foreseeing that they will get something between 290 to 330. Getting 2/3 rd majority by BJP's own votes is not possible.
You should explain to the viewers what the EVM voting machines technology is and why it is safe . That transperancy could be very important . EVMs cannot be hacked nor tampered with as it not related with internet ,and cannot be tampered because it will auto destruct or stop working .
