    I missed these types of focused how-to videos that you used to produce. I have learned so much from your past ones that you made, and have change my life style greatly from them Dr. Zzs. But your current venue of 2hr web chat are just to choppy to make any start to finish results from on any given topic that you are squirreling about:) Please make more "to the point" focused videos like these please sir

    Great down to basics / nuts and bolts how to video DrZzs! Looks like you have great kids too, Now could you do the same kind of detailed basic video with two or three or more 5 meter roles of LED strips maybe SK6812 RGBW LED strips. Then show in much detail how you would connect each 5 meter strip together with power, ground and data and then show in detail how you then connect each 5 meter strip with power injection. Everyone talks about "power injection" on TH-cam but I cannot find anyone that will spend the time and show in great detail with all the basics and the logic explained and show on video how to physically connect multiple LED strips together with power injection. Please will you do another video on this? I think you would clear alot of confusion and shed alot of light for all of us novice want a be LED fans.

    Dude, I love you!!! I've been freaking out about a power supply i brought because it's 60amp 5v, I was worried it would fry my led strings. You completely answered my question!

    • @reality150tv
      @reality150tv 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think there is some misinformation, or not made clear should i say. I believe if u use the power supply on the strips it most certainly will fry them. I think the main factor here is, if u use that setup with diguno / controller it may not . I have seen videos saying dont put to much amps on the lights and that is whole reason for power injecting from end to end, that If u tried to use high amperage on one end only it would fry them and that u would need to use lower amps and inject power on both ends if that makes sense. The limiting factor here is the djiguno in this setup. If I am wrong , i would love to have this cleared up. Also There wasnt much said about the extra power wires on the strip, that is the area , I am unclear on how much power to send , and when to use those wires instead of the diguno for power.

    His specific example will probably be OK due to the low current draw....
    17:15 ish... Never solder/tin wires being used in those style headers. The data line will be OK, but the power wires could overheat. Solder will 'give' over time causing a loose connection. This is a major issue w/ 3D Printer main boards. Leave the wires bare or crimp on ferrules.

    I am truly enjoying all your videos that I have seen. I want to use led lights for Christmas this year. I don't know if I should use led strips, or bulbs. 5V or 12V (Is this like VHS or BETA) lol. I want to start out with the roof line of my house and the front windows. I have calculated the total number of feet but I don't know how many strands of lights I would need like the old school Christmas lights. I have seen where you need to inject power after so many pixels. How would I know if I need more than one DigUno for what I want to do. So many questions, I start getting overwhelmed so I hope you can point me in the right direction. I will keep watching all your videos and try to figure this out. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise.

    Question:
    How do you use a single strip but hide certain LED lights while you are using that strip, for example you want them hidden behind a board and then continue on lit, and then hide them again behind another board.
    I can’t seem to find out how to turn off individual LED lights on the same strip?

    • @imrecordingtoo1374
      @imrecordingtoo1374 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don’t turn off the individual leds you would cut the strip and solder wire in between where you dont want the led’s lit up. It can be a pretty tricky solder job and takes a bit of practice but is 100% possible.

    I love your videos. But I am just wondering why go this route? Just with the LED's, Diguno, and power supply your cost are about $68.00. You can get Govee Lights on Amazon for ranging prices of $23 to 50 dollars. I get you like DIY but this is not very cost effective. Are there more programming options that you like better? I am a huge fan of LED strips I have 13 sets in my house. Just curious why go this way? Great video!

    I was wondering if anyone has tackled trying to embed Individually 5050 RGB LED into a concrete sidewalk? I've been trying to figure out how to do this without the concrete eating the project over time.
    Most of the research said aluminum and concrete aren't recommended due to the off-gassing produced when the concrete gets wet. The second issue is the extreme temperature variation it would encounter from -40 to +35 Centigrade and, of course, regular maintenance like shovelling snow or mowing the Lawn. The project would involve running the LED on the perimeter of the sidewalk, but it has to be able to deal with wet, cold and traffic walking on it. I was looking at the weatherproof 5050 Lights. I'm just not sure how to make it practical. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    James

      Can I second, third, and fourth this comment? Any follow up to this James? I was wondering about maybe having areas embedded in concrete that are epoxy and removable...

      Search for "aluminum led track strips" on Amazon. Tons of options depending on what you need. www.amazon.com/s?k=aluminum+led+track+strips&ref=nb_sb_noss_2
      Go to Rob's Channel "The Hook up" He explains it there. th-cam.com/video/_UiqrnRiqpk/w-d-xo.html

    Hey there, I started working with LED last Christmas because of watching your videos, thank you!
    Last year your basic guide uses an ESP8266 chip, do you not use those anymore? I got a few last year so are they not as good as what you are using now?

    ALMOST exactly what I've been looking for over the past month!!!! THANKS!! But, I said almost...can you control something like this with xLights. I know that's probably overkill, but I'd just like to get a sense of how xLights works. Thanks again, and Happy Holidays!!!! ~Frank

    I love the video and great explanations. Dentists are going to hate your example of stripping wire with your teeth. I did that a lot in my 20's, cracked a tooth, and am still paying for it now, in my '70's. NOT recommended!

    I've been watching a lot of your videos and learning a lot. Thanks. I have a question I'm not sure if you have covered or not. I hope I explain it correctly. I'm looking at putting lights in the trees in my front yard. I am thinking about running a 50 light string up each large branch. I want each string to do the same thing. Do I need to use a controller for each string or can I wire the data line of multiple strings to the same data pin to achieve the same pattern on all the strings? It seems like it should work as long as the data pin did not "brown out" with too many stings. I know there is the digiquad and that is what I will probably use but that only has 4 outputs and my tree has more than 4 branches. Keeping the lights in "series" like usual would add a data wire 16 feet long between each string so I was wondering if this would be a quick fix. Two string per output on a digiquad would let me run 8 strings from one controller. I hope that makes sense.

      Yes, you can parallel data channels on multiple strings. Make sure each string has the same number of pixels. The strings should share a common ground.

    Really nice video, and you convinced me, I need to test it out here in Copenhagen... However I'm a little concerned about have the controller free hanging... Couldn't it be put into some small box or similar?

    Thanks for the education. I am going to outline my house this year. I simply want to alternate two solid colors for different seasons (i.e. Christmas, 4th of July etc.). No effects or chasing. Can that be programmed with WLED? Thanks.

    Kinda wild you need 10+ amps to run these LEDs. I thought LEDs were suppose to be low power? Of course I get driving white will light all rgb, sure there's the rgb-W but seems to still be a lot of power. Thanks DrZ

    • @qualar
      @qualar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are low power. The voltage is low hence the current is high. 10amps at 5volts results in a wattage of 50 Watts.

    I've watched quite a few video's lately but this tutorial is by far the best for the novice, especially explaining about the amps and power supply for safety. question, does a certain chip / strip draw a different ma and is there a chart that shows this. thanks DrZzs

    I'd like to install a total of 66 feet (20 meters) of 60/m WLED strips around my room. I've watched many videos but I'm still lost on figuring out the proper power setup, and finding the proper controller for my WLEDs.
    How would you guys recommend I approach this project of mine in regard to power supply especially, and controller?

    My wife picked up some white balls that are battery operated color changing LED Some are about 8" big and another that is about 12" big. We have them placed around our pool in the landscaping. We have 7, but would like to pick up a few more. I would like to take the battery part apart toss the cheap LED and run something like this to them, Maybe 4-6 pixels in each to give some effect if possible. How would I go about running them? they will be about From where they are plugged in to the last one is probably just under 100'. Would this control be a good fit for this?
