personally, i think the original thought of alphys was mettaton NEO but on the pacifist/neutral run she is working slowly, proven by her state on the phone before the start of the EX form fight that reads "it's a work in progress". But on the genocide route, she starts rushing her build and she has possibly made a mistake designing it and with no time, that's what we get. Please comment your thoughts on this
That makes a lot of sense actually. Maybe the box form was the placeholder body for Mettaton to use while Alphys works on finishing his NEO form? and since the EX form is the in-between from Box to Glamour, so it's what we fight during the pacifist and neutral runs, makes a lot of sense. And Alphys rushing the development of NEO makes the whole thing of NEO having so much ATK but so little defense add a lot more to this theory of yours. Alphys was probably only thinking about destroying us in the Genocide route, that she forgot about adding defense. That coupled with her trying to evacuate the remaining monsters, trying to deal with the grief of Undyne going out in a blaze of glory, and most likely worrying about what would happen if or when we got to Asgore, would put so much stress on her mind that she wouldn't be able to think and/or work on NEO properly, and only be able to prioritize ATK in her head and forget about the defense. (Jeez this was a lot longer than I was planning- also sorry if I repeated myself a few times.)

Thank you. That was a huge oversight with this video and it really got on my nerves. Mettaton was essentially Alphys's thesis to get her foot in the door to even become the Royal Scientist, so he definitely came before the DT experiments she did. That said, the more photogenic EX form was certainly something that it seems wasn't worked on until she started her job for Asgore. It is most likely she did draw up the plans for the Mettaton EX form from the onset but needed better resources to bring it to fruition, and that the rectangular form is more of a phase 1/base body that could be upgraded. Where it leaves this theory? It could still go either way as to rather he was built with combat features from the beginning or not. Personally, I think he was by default not built with very many features of any kind and Alphys tinkered out some upgrades for him over time, weapons and stagecraft devices alike, as the mood struck her. I mean, if there's one thing Alphys is not, it's professional. so, whatever cool junk she got her hands on got thrown in, if or not it could kill a human wouldn't be much of a concern for her.

The most we get is that it existed before Mettaton 1.0, as Mettaton mentions its features had "never been removed." The NEO's resemblance to the EX form makes me think the latter was supposed to be a re-purposed version of the former, probably per Mettaton's influence.

Bratty and Catty say that Alphys probably created Mettaton to impress Asgore as it seemed like a robot with a soul. At that point of time, Alphys thought Asgore was cute and wanted to catch his attention with Mettaton, a robot which seemed to have an artificial soul and was weaponised to fight humans. Asgore wanted Alphys to become a royal scientist because he hoped that she would be able to create artificial souls to break the barrier instead of having to kill humans, finding a peaceful solution. The only reason Alphys made him a human eradication robot was because she thought that that was what Asgore would find useful as he was trying to keep the monsters hopeful by saying he would kill humans and break the barrier. Even if it was not what he wanted, it was what Alphys perceived that he wanted and therefore made mettaton a human eradication robot. These were the intentions of and benefits for Alphys. For Mettaton, the metallic, square body was not his 'ideal' body that he wanted. In Mettaton's diary, Mettaton states that Alphys showed him sketches of 'a form beyond my wildest fantasies'. This is not referring to his square form but either his EX or NEO forms. I personally believe that it is actually his NEO form (coincidentally, neo means 'new') that was the form Alphys sketched for him but either she did not have the materials, or wanted Mettaton to help impress Asgore first as Mettaton's first body was built more for Asgore than Mettaton. Alphys only started on his actual form after she became the royal scientist and never fully finished until his EX form was fully complete in the true pacifist run. So Alphys persuaded Mettaton to help her impress Asgore first before creating the body he wanted, meanwhile, however, Mettaton still took advantage of the 'weapons' installed to run his shows first, using equipment such as the jetpack and weapons such as chainsaws and bombs, for entertainment. Afterwards, Alphys asked Mettaton to help her impress the human by terrorising them allowing Mettaton to make use of more of his installed weapons. Therefore, Alphys created Mettaton to impress Asgore, but promised to help Mettaton to create the body of his dreams.
His attacks could just be magical bullet attacks like the ones other monsters use. He still has a monster soul, and monsters use their bullets to express themselves. Most of his attacks revolve around his personality, the glittery, bombastic, narcissistic celebrity with a pair of perfect legs.
Don't forget that there is a ghost inside the dummy in the Ruins as well, which the Mad Dummy references too as a cousin, so there's just a big family of four ghosts in the underground, each perusing a different life goal. Can you guys do me a favour and like this, I want to see UnderLab do a video on how Asgore didn't harm any of the 6 humans, and that they die to illnesses and traps, or being in a bad place. The first one stayed and waited for Toriel when she asked them to and frogits and whisums found them and try attack but the kid just took it, injured, they stop tock the kid to the guards and the kid died to their injuries. The second could've played in the snow and was playing with it for too long and start getting bad illness, dogs found him and the human die to there illnesses. The third one is easy, they could've easily drown in waterfall, maybe to dodge guards in the area but start to lose their breath once the water was getting high, the guards found them when there soul was appeared. The fourth one had glasses, and if gersen found them, that means they lost it and the child with bad vision fell off like monster kid did, but when running from the guards. The fifth one could of die to the traps of Gaster and other Scientist, why, well this have to talk place before Undyne was training with Asgore as Frisk is the first human she meets in the underground, so the Royal Scientist and other Scientist may have kill the fifth human with old plus new traps at the same time and they die to all the damage and heart burn they took in Hotlands. But the Sixth human I think is the reason why there are not as many guards around and theres now only Alphys left, they looked at what they done to humans from that pass and took them out with a gun, maybe a miss fire is the reason why Undyne have one eye as a bullet out of no where when she was young might have gave her the anger and hate she had before she meet Asgore, so after all bullets was shot, they head to fight Asgore, and someone there before them to judge a person for the first time, why do you think Sans was there at the hall for when you came there, and this was Sans when he first found out about his KR and when he had some passion in him and fought the human, but before he could take them out he leaves them to bleed out and Asgore find them, this is what make Asgore want you to win and take his soul, he sees what happen to the humans that fell and decide to not try and let you hit him. This is what I think happen to the humans in Undertale, maybe it be good to have this as a future topic on the channel, we'll see.
That's what I thought. You never find the belongings of the souls in New Home. They were most likely hunted by eager monsters. But Asgore couldn't tell them he changed his mind. His subjects would be crushed. You'd think after claiming six souls himself, Asgore would be at least a little numb. It seems Frisk was the first human he encountered himself. Look at his reaction, and his reluctance. Looks like a first- time confrontation, doesn't it?

My theory is that alphys was already building a killer robot, but she then met mettaton as a ghost and then altered the already mostly built robot to be a entertainment robot for him.
My first theory to why Mettaton's backstory didn't make sense was because the forms were seperate--The square form was for human eradication, the EX was for Mettaton. My thought was that Mettaton's body was always EX, but as Alphys mentioned in the True Lab, she took a while to build it. Mettaton said in his diary that his dreams couldn't wait for anyone, so what if he go impatient, so Alphys gave him the human killing machine as a temporary body while she finished off EX. By the time it *was* finished, Frisk fell down, and Alphys needed Mettaton to be a human killer in return for the installation of EX.
If you have a look at what Bratty and Catty tell you about Mettaton, you learn that Mettaton was built before Alphys became the royal scientist. She made him a robot body because he wanted to be a star, but she gave him combat features to impress Asgore, not to mention that she also claimed he had an artificial soul she made him (obviously a lie). Mettaton NEO was designed to be flashy and fabulous because Mettaton wanted that - it was like a placeholder, until she became the royal scientist and got the resources to make Mettaton EX, his dream form. He was originally designed with human eradication in mind, but only to get the job so she could (among other things) build Mettaton the body he really wanted so he could finally be a star. At least, that’s what I think. It makes sense, considering the fact that the EX body was very new (Frisk was the first one to see it) but the NEO form was already there. I think it’s safe to assume that Alphys telling you he was built to have human killing features recently was just a lie, considering all the other lies she told you.
Theory: Mettaton killed the 5th human and then got entertainment purposes built on him. In the True Lab, there is a log that says Alphys is worried that Mettaton would stop talking to her if she finished his new body, this could either be referring to The Nokia MTT or Mettaton EX, but for the sake of this theory it’s Nokia.

He didn't really seemed like he believed that he was going to win, he did not try to stop you in the lab and decided to run away because he knew he could not win. Afterwards he decided to try fight, knowing that he would not win, but he wanted to die as a form he wanted, his true form.

Nyahah. Actually it's more likely Alphys only got his help when she started rooting for the protagonist and he never had any weapons at all. Well of course except for what he says before the Mettaton EX FIGHT. But as we see in the quiz show he has electric magic powers or something to hurt people because he can take our HP away to apparently how low he wants (I guess he halved it for the tension). Nyahhhh. well, Mettaton did say that Alphys was only "protecting you" because she wanted to look cool after what she had done with the Amaglamates (I forget how to spell it exactly but that`s that best I could do). She harmed many monsters from using determination on them, once she had failed, she didn't look very cool after what she had done. She was trying to help you to look cooler by "Hacking" into stuff to save you and have Mettaton try to attack you but she cuts in again and saves you.

Mettaton may have a situation that could prove that dancing can be used to go on the offense as it makes sense that fighting with every part of the body is more effective to land a hit as a person who is as erratic as mettaton will be moving unpredictability and well that may be the reason for the most unrelated actions are related.

He was built to be the Underground's version of 8 Man. Did you ever watch an early '90s anime miniseries called '8 Man After'? The premise goes something like this, and stop me if this sounds familiar. It's about a *scientist* who puts the *soul/ghost* of a cop into a *robot body* with *hyper-advanced combat features* (including but not limited to super-speed). Yes, it's as awesome as it sounds. Basically Robocop meets The Flash. 3:02 They kinda look like prototype B-MOs.
What I think happened was the king wanted a human eradicating robot from Alphys, but Alphys wasn't able to produce a working one. Then, this ghost came along that could inhabit a host and make it move around so Alphys used the ghost to "finish" the robot. The robot body itself was created for human eradication, but then Alphys afterward started developing it for the ghost who she had befriended. That's why it's Mettaton's NEW body.
I feel like Mettaton's body was originally built for being a weaponized robot, but was later modified after Alphys met him and bonded him together with the body. The modifications made it easier for Mettaton to be an entertainer, but she didn't remove all of the weaponized features for some reason. Perhaps so he could defend himself or for her own reasons. Backing this up is the fact that Mettaton states himself on the Genocide route that his body was built for Human Eradication first, and that these features were never totally removed.

I want to give you a tip, Underlab. Befriend Papyrus and go to every room from Snowdin forest to the core, and call him in each room, and do the same after befriending Undyne. You learn a lot about the 2.
I was listening to amalgam from the Undertale ost and I immediately noticed the connection to Battle Against A True Hero and Power Of Neo. And Big Shot is connected as well because of the Neo part of the song. I haven't seen a theory connecting all of these songs and I thought it would be very interesting if someone did it

The most we get is that it existed before Mettaton 1.0, as Mettaton mentions its features had "never been removed." The NEO's resemblance to the EX form makes me think the latter was supposed to be a re-purposed version of the former, probably per Mettaton's influence.
AJ: The point of Underlab isn't to give the final word on all things Undertale. These videos are more to provide a place for these theories to be introduced to and discussed by fans in a more effective way than the Wiki page. Those who are already familiar with the featured theory don't need to watch the video, they can just jump into a conversation (which, from what you've said, is exactly what you're doing).

Bratty and Catty say that Alphys probably created Mettaton to impress Asgore as it seemed like a robot with a soul. At that point of time, Alphys thought Asgore was cute and wanted to catch his attention with Mettaton, a robot which seemed to have an artificial soul and was weaponised to fight humans. Asgore wanted Alphys to become a royal scientist because he hoped that she would be able to create artificial souls to break the barrier instead of having to kill humans, finding a peaceful solution.
The only reason Alphys made him a human eradication robot was because she thought that that was what Asgore would find useful as he was trying to keep the monsters hopeful by saying he would kill humans and break the barrier. Even if it was not what he wanted, it was what Alphys perceived that he wanted and therefore made mettaton a human eradication robot. These were the intentions of and benefits for Alphys. For Mettaton, the metallic, square body was not his 'ideal' body that he wanted. In Mettaton's diary, Mettaton states that Alphys showed him sketches of 'a form beyond my wildest fantasies'. This is not referring to his square form but either his EX or NEO forms. I personally believe that it is actually his NEO form (coincidentally, neo means 'new') that was the form Alphys sketched for him but either she did not have the materials, or wanted Mettaton to help impress Asgore first as Mettaton's first body was built more for Asgore than Mettaton. Alphys only started on his actual form after she became the royal scientist and never fully finished until his EX form was fully complete in the true pacifist run. So Alphys persuaded Mettaton to help her impress Asgore first before creating the body he wanted, meanwhile, however, Mettaton still took advantage of the 'weapons' installed to run his shows first, using equipment such as the jetpack and weapons such as chainsaws and bombs, for entertainment. Afterwards, Alphys asked Mettaton to help her impress the human by terrorising them allowing Mettaton to make use of more of his installed weapons.
Therefore, Alphys created Mettaton to impress Asgore, but promised to help Mettaton to create the body of his dreams.

I'd always thought Mettaton was built with human eradication in mind, able to swap from his normal form to his NEO form and back, but was retrofitted into a his EX form for entertainment at his request.
This means both stories are correct at once and makes sense as to why NEO looks like EX with more robot junk thrown on him

Can you guys do me a favour and like this, I want to see UnderLab do a video on how Asgore didn't harm any of the 6 humans, and that they die to illnesses and traps, or being in a bad place.
The first one stayed and waited for Toriel when she asked them to and frogits and whisums found them and try attack but the kid just took it, injured, they stop tock the kid to the guards and the kid died to their injuries.
The second could've played in the snow and was playing with it for too long and start getting bad illness, dogs found him and the human die to there illnesses.
The third one is easy, they could've easily drown in waterfall, maybe to dodge guards in the area but start to lose their breath once the water was getting high, the guards found them when there soul was appeared.
The fourth one had glasses, and if gersen found them, that means they lost it and the child with bad vision fell off like monster kid did, but when running from the guards.
The fifth one could of die to the traps of Gaster and other Scientist, why, well this have to talk place before Undyne was training with Asgore as Frisk is the first human she meets in the underground, so the Royal Scientist and other Scientist may have kill the fifth human with old plus new traps at the same time and they die to all the damage and heart burn they took in Hotlands.
But the Sixth human I think is the reason why there are not as many guards around and theres now only Alphys left, they looked at what they done to humans from that pass and took them out with a gun, maybe a miss fire is the reason why Undyne have one eye as a bullet out of no where when she was young might have gave her the anger and hate she had before she meet Asgore, so after all bullets was shot, they head to fight Asgore, and someone there before them to judge a person for the first time, why do you think Sans was there at the hall for when you came there, and this was Sans when he first found out about his KR and when he had some passion in him and fought the human, but before he could take them out he leaves them to bleed out and Asgore find them, this is what make Asgore want you to win and take his soul, he sees what happen to the humans that fell and decide to not try and let you hit him.
This is what I think happen to the humans in Undertale, maybe it be good to have this as a future topic on the channel, we'll see.

They were most likely hunted by eager monsters. But Asgore couldn't tell them he changed his mind. His subjects would be crushed.

My theory is that alphys was already building a killer robot, but she then met mettaton as a ghost and then altered the already mostly built robot to be a entertainment robot for him.

They couldn't have happened at the same time because Alphys became the royal scientist because she built Mettaton to impress Asgore.
My first theory to why Mettaton's backstory didn't make sense was because the forms were seperate--The square form was for human eradication, the EX was for Mettaton.
My thought was that Mettaton's body was always EX, but as Alphys mentioned in the True Lab, she took a while to build it. Mettaton said in his diary that his dreams couldn't wait for anyone, so what if he go impatient, so Alphys gave him the human killing machine as a temporary body while she finished off EX. By the time it *was* finished, Frisk fell down, and Alphys needed Mettaton to be a human killer in return for the installation of EX.
If you have a look at what Bratty and Catty tell you about Mettaton, you learn that Mettaton was built before Alphys became the royal scientist.
She made him a robot body because he wanted to be a star, but she gave him combat features to impress Asgore, not to mention that she also claimed he had an artificial soul she made him (obviously a lie). Mettaton NEO was designed to be flashy and fabulous because Mettaton wanted that - it was like a placeholder, until she became the royal scientist and got the resources to make Mettaton EX, his dream form.
He was originally designed with human eradication in mind, but only to get the job so she could (among other things) build Mettaton the body he really wanted so he could finally be a star. At least, that’s what I think. It makes sense, considering the fact that the EX body was very new (Frisk was the first one to see it) but the NEO form was already there.
I think it’s safe to assume that Alphys telling you he was built to have human killing features recently was just a lie, considering all the other lies she told you.

Nice! By the way, the real reason Mettaton turns into his NEO form is I order to give Alphys and any surviving monsters enough time to escape with no care for his own 'life', proving him to have an altruistic side.
He didn't really seemed like he believed that he was going to win, he did not try to stop you in the lab and decided to run away because he knew he could not win. Afterwards he decided to try fight, knowing that he would not win, but he wanted to die as a form he wanted, his true form.

The reason Mettaton is my favorite character, is the fact, that he doesn't cares about people think he is gay, just because he likes pink! He wants to be himself, and monsters are like him for this!

Nyahah. Actually it's more likely Alphys only got his help when she started rooting for the protagonist and he never had any weapons at all. Well of course except for what he says before the Mettaton EX FIGHT. But as we see in the quiz show he has electric magic powers or something to hurt people because he can take our HP away to apparently how low he wants (I guess he halved it for the tension). Nyahhhh. well, Mettaton did say that Alphys was only "protecting you" because she wanted to look cool after what she had done with the Amaglamates (I forget how to spell it exactly but that`s that best I could do). She harmed many monsters from using determination on them, once she had failed, she didn't look very cool after what she had done. She was trying to help you to look cooler by "Hacking" into stuff to save you and have Mettaton try to attack you but she cuts in again and saves you.

The premise goes something like this, and stop me if this sounds familiar. It's about a *scientist* who puts the *soul/ghost* of a cop into a *robot body* with *hyper-advanced combat features* (including but not limited to super-speed). Yes, it's as awesome as it sounds. Basically Robocop meets The Flash.

What I think happened was the king wanted a human eradicating robot from Alphys, but Alphys wasn't able to produce a working one. Then, this ghost came along that could inhabit a host and make it move around so Alphys used the ghost to "finish" the robot.
The robot body itself was created for human eradication, but then Alphys afterward started developing it for the ghost who she had befriended. That's why it's Mettaton's NEW body.

I feel like Mettaton's body was originally built for being a weaponized robot, but was later modified after Alphys met him and bonded him together with the body. The modifications made it easier for Mettaton to be an entertainer, but she didn't remove all of the weaponized features for some reason. Perhaps so he could defend himself or for her own reasons.
Backing this up is the fact that Mettaton states himself on the Genocide route that his body was built for Human Eradication first, and that these features were never totally removed.

I was listening to amalgam from the Undertale ost and I immediately noticed the connection to Battle Against A True Hero and Power Of Neo.
And Big Shot is connected as well because of the Neo part of the song. I haven't seen a theory connecting all of these songs and I thought it would be very interesting if someone did it
