Playing offline is a really great point that needs to be talked about more. Not everyone has access to high speed internet. And obviously that is a big reason why cloud gaming services like Stadia never took off. I really don't need to be ok the internet just to play a game I bought with my money. And also. I really like how Persona 5 Royal handles the New Game+. Your level starts over, but your main character keeps the HP and SP levels that they got to, all equipment is still there, and the bonuses that are in the first five levels of friendship with all Confident characters remain unlocked, even though the friendship level resets.

Half of the time I get the feeling that either the game devs don’t see much point in adding NG+, why don’t they realize that by adding NG+, they would encourage the players to do another play through?

Secret dialogue options that are there just naturally are so amazing for immersion, I remember playing Skyrim and coming across a farm and talking to the owners and buying a horse, then hours later I come across a town on the opposite end of the map, go through a long quest line and find myself having to threaten someone for money, and guess what, they were a relative of the Farm owner, so I had the option to threaten their family which I never would of seen if I hadn't of been at that random farm on the opposite end of the map but since I did I got to go through that questline more easily and get the money without any difficulty.

#5 is SUPER nicely implemented in Detroit: Become Human. not only you can go back and replay any section of the game you have already unlocked, you are also shown ALL the branching events in the scene (things you haven't done yet all blanks of course). so you can see all the possible unlockables and choices and consequences that you COULD have if you explore another time and do things differently.

it's both nice and bad at the same time; nice for when you just want to hunt down the explicit branches only, but bad because it means that it stops being a game and starts being work, because you're just going through the motions to get the result, instead of appreciating the experience all the way through.

Its been about 20 years since the Colony Wars games were released on the original PlayStation, and to this day I have not seen any flying game do a better job of providing situational awareness than it did with the holographic radar and leading sights that accounted for speed, distance, direction of the player, target, and rounds being fired. Those games were way ahead of their time.

I wasn't familiar with those games, so I had a look at google images. That game is very visually similar to a game I used to play back in the early 00's when I was younger. The game was called Bang: Gunship Elite. It came out for PC and Dreamcast in 2000, and has a kind of topographical radar that registers enemies' position in 3D space above and below you as well as distance forward and aft from you. The weapons also have unique animations and reticules to help distinguish between them all. It doesn't have target lead indicators, but does have rudimentary target lock by putting the crosshair inside the weapon reticule on the enemy fighters. One weapon, the Titan's Hammer, is basically fire and forget as well.

Would love to see a remake with some new ships, increased engagement distances with today's tech! Was super epic with the music, graphics and sound. And while we're talking about Psygnosis, later Studio Liverpool, G Police wasn't bad either, and of course Wipeout series. I fear that we will never see anything like these games again as Sony sold the studio, but we can dream I suppose...

For the "pause during cutscenes" idea, yes. Absolutely, yes, but instead of just having the option to skip, or rewatch a cutscenes, we need the ability to skip the cutscenes, and, as most single player games these days have some kind of in-game lore "codex" the ability to simply go back through what would essentially be a transcript of the dialogue from the cutscenes. That way, if your quest log just says, go do (x), but in the dialogue you were told you also have to (y) and (z) before you can do (x), you can go back and re-read the dialogue to remind yourself to do (y) and (z). I say that because I have personally played RPGs before that have a similar, if not the exactly described system implemented with the added bonus that they actually highlighted relevant quest information in the codex in a different color text.

I've personally really enjoyed games having more accessibility options. Though I don't use that many, sometimes they greatly improved games for me. For instance, being able to choose button mashing to a hold instead is nice. Sometimes being able to change the amount of time to hit a response to a QTE is nice. I am starting to develop dexterity issues due to tendenitis and my brain isn't as fast any more than that I'm started to end my younger years and hit middle age. I know QTE timing can be a factor in difficulty for levels and some might argue that being able to increase the timing is a way of cheating the difficulty, but I would argue that playing with mobility issues or slower reflexes due to aging is like playing with a debuff and being able to play with that extra buffer levels that playing field to that of a normal player (as if there is just a "standard player" out there when we're all different with varying degrees of mobility).

One game you might be interested in is DeadCells, a rouge-lite game. They've very recently launched their "Breaking Barriers" update, basically the fully-fledged accessibility update, to which they actually implemented the rouge-lite version of the two things you mentioned. So, now you can hold to execute combo attacks, and you can enable an option that increases the time between parries. As for the former, I myself actually have that one enabled, even though I cosider myself to be a very good player of that game (approaching 1000 hours, so, you know, naturally), because it's just, well, convenient.

Something that I want in games is being able to skip walking sequences.
For those who don't know what they are. They are basically sections where the game slows down your walking speed artificially to hear some dialogue or something. They can also be crawling sequences.
Sometimes they are used to hide loading. But most times they are just poor substitutes for cutscenes. Literally. They are used so that the devs don't spend more money on cutscene animations and cinematography.
There's nothing a walking sequence can do that a cutscene does better.
But because they are technically gameplay, you can't skip 99% of them. And I hate it so much.

    • @woteveruk1

That can be seen in multuple contexts, personally I've always found that it can break immersion if a game world is over stuffed with content and there's too much everywhere to do even if that content is good individually, like how with skyrim every 5 feet and around every rock there's a cave, ruin, or encampment filled to the brim with enemies and loot. It can feel very artificially filled and make you long for longer treks out in the world like how you'd get in oblivion for example, since obviously that's a lot more realistic. It's also a bit weird when you realize the average population of settlements in skyrim is the same as the average population of any random bandit or forsworn camp and there's obviously faaar more of those than settlements in the game lol

On the player-generated map markers/notes feature, the PC version of TES3: Morrowind allowed U to create (as far as I could tell) an unlimited number of map markers w/ individual notes once U installed the Mournhold Expansion. While in Menu Mode, hovering the mouse pointer over a map marker would automatically show the note U typed in for it, which made the feature enormously valuable for keeping track of useful locations, crucial NPCs & what they had to offer, quest areas & whether or not they'd been cleared, etc.
A nice exploit was that, once a dungeon had been cleared of all hostile NPCs, U could opt to takeover the dungeon as your own, using it as an unofficial player home; some dungeons contained respawn points for hostile creatures, which could B exploited for level grinding. Having the map marker/note feature available made it easy to keep track of which dungeons were useful for what purposes....

Tactics Ogre (the timeline mechanics point) reminds of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam Vs. Zeta Gundam" on the PS2. That was so fun to see what you could do to timelines. Like in normal canon characters that would not normally be there you could possibly save them and they join you or you make a secret foe and it goes and adds new challenges people love to see and try. The original Silent Hill trilogy had a great map system, the protagonist would actually draw on the map to show locked and unlocked doors, collapsed streets and more.
What I hate the most is when games actually do have cheats but they punish you for using them. Not being able to get achievements with activated cheats is fine but I remember some games that really punished you for using cheats that were put in there by the devs. There was stuff like not being able to save anymore, basically ruining your whole progress in the game.

I think you only mentioned GTA V one time in the video but almost every entry on your list is either fully in GTA V or it has similar elements or partially in it. I'm replaying the story mode right now on PS5 and havent touched the game since 360 version (im mindblown btw lol) and things like being able to pull every mission up just by pausing the game, seeing what you need to do for the medals (gold, etc) and just instantly going to that mission to replay it is amazing. At first i was nervous that it was going to force me to play the game from the mission i selected-on, however when you are done replaying it just puts you right back in the world wherever you initiated the replay. GTA V is truly one of the greatest and jam packed single player games I have ever played in my 25+ years of gaming. I am amazed this game is from 2013. I gave my dad my old 360 as well so he could play the story mode and even on that version in 2023 i am blown away by just how insane that game is from top to bottom. I honestly dont think some people realize just how incredible it truly is. GTA 6 has A LOT to live up to and idk how they will include the amount of features and map size, etc. in one game like the leaks suggest. Im so excited lol

it's called "World State" :) and hard agree! having that continuity, especially in an epic story like ME or DA is very important for me. because in some games, regardless of what ending you get in your playthrough, the next game just chooses one of them and goes with it, making it essentially the "canon" ending. and that really invalidates your player agency in a major way. and it sucks

Another thing railway system and train yards with changeable switches. Most OW games look away from proper railway system (don't know why?). A "Previously on" feature would be pretty nice for a lot of games, at least the more action-heavy ones, and maybe even the narrative-heavy ones like any Quantic Dream title. While it probably would be difficult to program a bunch of different cuts like what you'd see in a TV show, I could see something like just a highlight reel of whatever mission or story chapter you were previously playing, that way, you're caught up on the plot. And just for extra measure, the game can ask you with a prompt "Do you want to be refreshed on the story" or something to that effect, so that players don't have see it all the time if they're not too lost on the details.

One thing i love in games is playing a true new game+, where you get to keep EVERYTHING that isn't story related, and i at least think that every game should have at least some kind of NG+...
But even more so, i would love for more games to let me randomize different things! XCOM Enemy Within had a feature where you could randomize what skills your soldiers would get, unless they were tied to a specific class, like the Snipers Squadsight... So you could get a Sniper with not only the Sentinel and Oppertunist skills to make them amazing at overwatch, but you could also be very lucky and get Heat Ammo, doing increased damage to mechanical enemies!
I would love to see features like this in more games, and all the developers would have to do is make a disclaimer saying "this might make the game act weird, but if you are okay with taking that chance, be our guest!"
They don't have to go all the way and let us swap character models or anything, but just the ability to have things happen at random points, like getting spells and abilities at random levels instead of set ones, or make chests and loot drops be entirely made up of random items.
Hell, it could even be a reward for finishing the game along side the NG+, so you get to play the game as intended for your first playthrough so the developers get to show you their story and gameplay as intended, but then the shackles are off if you wanna try it after that!

Speaking on the last point you made, the #1 game for the small details that blew me away was Watch Dogs 1...I know it's an unpopular choice but after revisiting it on PS4 I realized how much of an underrated masterpiece that game was (minus the shitty dlc) it also made me all the more depressed to see just how much of that focus on minor details was taken out of the later games in the series, WD2 was bad for it and Legion can't hold a candle to either of its predecessors. Knowing that the series will now probably be over with the garbage entry that Legion was is so sad to think about.
It also got me thinking that too many sequels prioritize new features while removing a lot of the ones from previous entries that made the series' great in the first place. AAA studios really need to cut that shit out. I'm looking at you, Ubisoft. 🙃

    • @Roxas661
      @Roxas661 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@hawken796 Idk, if you go back and REALLY play through the first game you might have a greater appreciation for it.
I felt the same way when I played 2, it was my favourite game at the time but when I went back to the first game with a more open mindset and an eye for detail I realized that despite the obvious lack of things like parkour or the cool outfits Markus gets the actual gameplay and world had way more thought, heart and detail put into it.
I think there's also kind of a stigma that WD1 is a wholly bad game because of the whole fiasco that ubi pulled with the previews vs the final product but when revisiting the remastered version it's basically on par with the original build they showed if not better and I really think it's one of those games that everyone should give a second chance.
It really is revolutionary with the small details that most current games don't bother to implement. Especially with the animations, there's tons of TH-cam videos out there that focus on these things too, you should check them out if you have any interest in it.
Anyways, not at all saying your opinion is invalid because WD2 is a great game itself and I still have yet to fully 100% it but just saying, after taking the time to go back to WD1 I appreciate it so much more then I thought I would.

@@Roxas661 I played Watch Dogs and i love it bro.
The dark theme and the great story is right up my alley, especially all the themes it tackles.
It has a lot of well done NPC behaviour and the reactions of NPCs and their daily activities is very well done. That was definitely lost in legion.
But attention to detail doesn't make the game. Like I'll go "Cool the horse balls shrink" and move on with my day, i don't base the entire game quality off of that, at the end, it's down to the thing you do.
2 had a far inferior story and all the dark themes are hidden well and are vague, but it does satire pretty well.
But ultimately the way the NPCs are interactive and the way you can manipulate them to your advantage is way greater than some preset animations.
I love both the games for opposite reasons but attention to detail doesn't make the game. GTA 5 has some astounding attention to detail but it's such a basic game in terms of gameplay and open world that it doesn't matter.

How about games or creators that made it easier for modders to mod their games. Take stardew valley for example. As massive game recoding patches came about, like the multiplayer patch that had him reprogram the entire game just to allow it ro work, he literally contacted a huge amount of modders and asked them how he could make it easier for the game to be moddable. Currently it's the highest modded indie game ever and has growing mod numbers almost comparable to skyrim.

    • @akl2k7
      @akl2k7 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The mods for that are pretty awesome. They've put whole entire towns in the game (probably helps that nobody has to voice act).

Beside that, one I would love to see in more games is rewind feature of Total Overdose. Basically when you die in that game, you can rewind time to basically try doing things differently in last moments. Just long enough back so you can make the difference, but not too long, so it doesn't hog resources too much. At least for easier games or easy mode, I wish this would be an option.
Another one I wish to see more is choice between more HUD heavy guided playthrough and more immersive lighter on HUD option, somewhat like Assassin's Creed Odyssey tried, but maybe even to higher extent and with more options of where you want more assistance. Also in way I sometimes wish games had more dynamic in how they allow you to approach stuff in terms of guidance, like way too many times it is that you either get a map an nothing, or you get exact map marker for NPC or door, but maybe more in lines of giving you general direction to town you are looking for, so you don't need to read all town names, but letting it up to you whether you want to find that NPC by talking to people, looking around,... and maybe update assistance based on that. Basically something in between that is not nothing and that isn't exact coordinate of someone you got just told is in that town. Especially annoying when you also get told town is in east, but really it is more north than east or even completely wrong... yeah, thanks games with wrong descriptions. :-D
As for immersion one, I really miss time when physics and destructible environments were hot thing, I wish more games did the two in bigger extent. Like Crysis like destruction model, or Far Cry 2 lie realistic fire spread model,... I don't think Gravity Gun even needs a mention here. Not sure if this counts, but I wish it was dome more. All those things really can offer more dynamic play and sometimes creative ways of solving problems. I remember this guy playing Alyx and once his inventory filled, he picked up a bucket and put excess stuff into bucket he kept carrying with him. I mean sure you don't need it and it can be bit of chore, but also you can't deny it is really cool that you can do it and that you can have fun with it.
Also for map, strategy game wise, Supreme Commander had really great idea about map in strategy game, where they allowed you to either zoom in to see every single unit or zoom out to see whole battlefield as full screen minimap. I wish more games did that, not just limit you how far you can zoom out. Though now, this is less relevant, since not many RTS games are made. But yeah, having Driver San Francisco way of doing whole map is really cool idea.

On the topic of giving general directions instead of a point on a map, Ghost Recon Breakpoint has a system that lets the player choose how much information they receive about locations they need to find. That's something I appreciated about that game, alongside the huge and varied map.

I would LOVE if all my single player games had a "previously on..." feature. I have a really bad habit of jumping between games and starting new ones before finishing old ones. And by the time I get back to some of the big, RPG games, I get frustrated because I can't remember where I was or what I was doing when I last played it. I've restarted many games from the beginning due to this.
Everything else you mentioned I also agree with. Especially the playing single player offline. If there's an issue with my internet, I should be able to still load up a single player game to pass the time.

Yeah it really makes me grateful that games like dragon quest 11 has the "what's happened so far" section when you load up a save. Honestly seems like for especially open world games that it should be a requirement since a lot of them are massive. I have a habit of doing the same as you and I load up a save for a different game and I have no idea what I was doing previously

A loadout for different play styles

As much as I hate odyssey

Shooting games or RPG's that let you change the controller mapping to what you want. I love it when games do that. Especially on console, when a game has a completely different set up than all the other games of the same genre. Like a shooting game on PS.... aim_L2 , shoot _ R2, crouch is circle (so on) then you get a game that is, aim is now L1, throw a grenade is circle and shoot is R1 it screws with you and you really end up wishing you can change that because you keep throwing a grenade at a high level guy that you wanted to sneak past. So now not only do you have grenade damage but, that really high level guy knows you're there and pummels you into the ground.

I remember Force Unleashed let me not only pause during the cutscenes, but also access the menu, meaning I could focus on all the force upgrade junk before I decide “Story time, yeeeah.” It also let you automatically skip the cutscenes with a single button, which is great for when it gives you the option of replaying with all your stuff so that you can basically grind while making the story less inconvenient. Also no internet use.

Ghost of Tsushima easily has the most revolutionary feature in recent gaming with something as simple as the wind tell you where the story is taking you or your personal waypoint on the map. No need for a mini map or some giant arrow on my screen to direct me. Just one swipe of the track pad and the wind starts blowing to tell you which direction to go. Giving me more opportunity to see it's gorgeous world.

I completely agree with your point about letting single player games be single. In Devil May Cry 5, there's a point where you choose which character you'll play for the rest of the mission, for whatever reason, the character you don't choose becomes another player even though you never really see each other or interact.

A feature I would like to see is a kind of refresher course in the options for people who haven't played a game in a while. Similar to a recap for forgetting where you are in the story, but for forgetting the controls. Like, just a small bare bones level you can access from the menu that reacquaints your muscle memory with the controls. I think Assassin's Creed Brotherhood had something like this, where you could learn and practice all the moves again in VR from the menu.
