Fun fact about the AI in this game, it was developed by the same guy who made that AI that a dude fell in love with and tried to marry a few years ago. Dude has a PhD in it and worked on a game.
@@Muddy.Teabagger Killzone 2 had some great AI too (good flanking and believable behaviour). They're advanced in different ways than FEAR, but Red Dead 2 (follow full day and night cycles, feel more alive than most games) and Shadow of Mordor (Nemesis system) have advanced AI systems as well.
I'm sure the "Fire less than 500 rounds" achievement wouldn't be too bad if you used the combat shotgun exclusively. It's one of the best FPS shotguns ever made
That achievement reminds me of the one in half life 2 where you can only fire exactly one bullet in the entire game and that bullet is for a lock. Im proud of getting that achievement.
@@Stormtrooper-oc4vn I screwed up that achievement one time because in the game you picked up and equipped new weapons automatically and I had my finger on the trigger when I picked the SMG for the first time, so I started shooting by mistake. had to start all over again.

Saint's Row was so good it killed GTA for me. Seriously I tried to play GTAV and every single time I hear Trevor all I hear is someone trying too hard to be Johnny Gat. Johnny Gat doesn't have to try at all, he is himself. Franklin was the only real redeeming factor in that game. @@DamienDarkside Trevor is nothing like Johnny Gat. Johnny Gat is basically a classic cheesy action star you'd expect out of something like Bad Boys. "Franklin was the only real redeeming factor in that game." Interesting opinion. I like Franklin but I think he's definitely not most people's favourite character in the game. Fear is actually pretty scary I remember playing it when I was younger and got scared in Fear 2 in the school area when the zombies started showing up, truly a mastermind of a series
The scariest part of me is in fact the amazing AI. Because in some cases, you are just not sure how they will act so you can think your chill to reload and suddenly your getting flanked and rushed on two sides and its just instant panic to not die.
Small Alma is indeed the projection of herself. As for why her adult form is naked is because she is naked inside the vault literally just got freed. And these two is a separate entity. The small one while sometimes kills you when you get too close in 'non hallucination sequence', she is actually trying to help you. I think this revealed in the first expansion pack, Extraction Point, not the sequels.

Later down the line it was shown alma was capable of influencing Fettel telepathically what Armacham called a "Synchronicity event." and it caused him to as a child murder several Armacham employees. 5:54 You can't tell me that ladder jumpscare didn't get you the first time. I still very vividly remember that one and I only played this game when it first came out on PC.
Didn´t get me the first time, sorry. A little girl staring at you is not that scary. And I was also looking at the lower part of the screen while decending the ladder, so I only noted her shoes. ^^ That brat shows up so frequent during the game that it is more an "oh hey Alma" then an "oh sh*t". The novelty of her visits fades because it is overused. Okay, as a young adult during the endgame she is more potent, but not as a 9 year old girl.
Hmmmm… I played 2,900 matches in Halo Infinite. Yeah, I’m a crazy Halo fan, lol. But I remember playing Fear online a lot when I was little. Campaign scared the shit out of me back then so I never completed it until I was like 23.
Majora's Mask! Yeah, it's an N64 game, so no achievements are bound to it, but the masks in themselves are quite the achievement. The challenge wont give the linear voice over your typical playthrough might give, but each mask gives enough a story to fill out that blank. I honestly hope you might give this a shot.
8:54 Bro, I feel called out. I got a little over 1,000 Hours in Awakening and was doing Push Ups in the new game Engage. So thanks for making me laugh so hard I got a new lowest score in push ups since I first started... Oh, and also thanks for bringing back my Lunatic+ Classic no deaths run PTSD. That was nice.
I was late to the party with FEAR too. The dated graphics didn't bother me at all because the combat loops are so freaken good. I agree too that it's actually not that scary of a game and the horror elements are pretty minor. It does have a creepy atmosphere throughout though.
Back in the day, I never had time to finished Ammo Hog. It was a waste of my fucking time and the only thing I carried was just bloody pistols and grenades. It was exhausting to redo this back then. Good job.
Awesome vid as always! What's next on the chopping block? Also you are correct about games in the early 360 days being like the wild west for achievements some games didn't have the full 1000G for no apparent reason, many games wanted you to be the best in the world at a game and easy 1000G's were very rare.
In thought they had to release with 1000g, which is why you either ended up with just 5 200g achievements or some hella insane and silly ones to just make the points up. which ones didnt release with 1k? (i know Phantasy Star Universe for example had 1k available, but for content that wasnt available right away)
@@Mark-ko6qgCondemned criminal origins has a max score of 970 and was released very closely to when the 360 came out. Brilliant game by the way. But the 1000rule didn't come into effect until later xbox live arcade games usually ranged form 200 - 450 w/DLC.
Love this video. FEAR is one of the best first person shooters I’ve ever played. Though you had me wishing FEAR had trophies (since I’m a PS dude) to being glad it didn’t 😂. Those goddamn MP trophies sound excessive, huge props for sticking it out.
I think really the only thing the PS3 version was well known for was that Automatic Shotgun, and the awesome bonus missions, those were pretty fun if you could stomach the piss frame rate
I'm going back thru all my games and cleaning up achievements. I literally just went back and played this maybe 2 months ago. I had like 15-20 points. I did the same thing as you though, playing on extreme first time. I honestly enjoyed this game a lot but I got all the single player achievements except one, the 500 bullets or less and skipped all the multi ones. Definitely wasn't grinding those😂😂
I remember trying to get the achievement for playing through the game without dying. I was super careful with my life and health pickups, but on one of the last levels I threw out a mine and somebody got a lucky shot and blew it up right in my face for an instant death.
I liked the second game more than the first, and then there was the third game, that felt like all the horror was removed and it just felt like a regular fps.
The slide and jump kick ends the replicas instantly most of the time and can go through 2 to 3 replicas if lined up correctly, probably would've helped a lot in the run.
I remember playing this game on PC when I was younger… and being freaked out whenever the Alma scenes happened as it was one of my first horror/creepy games. Still remember it fondly but some of those achievements feel way above my skill level. XD
I've been talking about Fear in regards to the dead space remake a lot lately to friends telling them it's a must play for the time. Needless to say it's one of my favorite horror shooters of all time (take away the achievements) and it is Incredible!
Seeing that Dead Space got an awesome Remake, this is definitely one game i really hope gets a remake at some point. This is amazing and absolutely deserves it!!!!
@5:55 I'm pretty sure that is more or less what you are meant to take away. Little girl Alma is basically Alma's projection of herself. What you see when she escapes is what she really looks like at that point in time. In FEAR 2 she alters her projection again tho to be "Hot Alma." FEAR 2 is weird btw, it feels more like a remake yet it *does* continue from the first game, and the batshit is cranked to 11.
I was a HARDCORE FANATIC of F.E.A.R back in the day and play it to this day. MP 1000 Actually came naturally on the xbox 360 because I played its multiplayer competitively so much. Their was NO FPS at that time that scratched its itch for me. i was addicted. I think I acquired this back in 2013. Can't remember.
It's important to note for anyone seeking to try F.E.A.R. based on this review, the game was built for PCs first, so some of the jank may be due to that. However, Monolith was known for their games getting janky on occasion.
Love FEAR, the game is one of the best. You should definitely try it on PC, it holds up even better. Also if you like FEAR, you HAVE to try out the expansion Extraction Point. Its got more horror, more varied scenery, and the best combat encounters in the game
Dude please play all the fear games, even if you don't upload them. It's such a good series, fear 3 was my favorite, the story does get explained more in it.
I want to play them all and probably will but it'll take a while. The problem is I want all the achievements and Fear 2 has a nasty multiplayer one that takes even more time then all of Fear 1s achievements
Alma was rapped as a child and gave birth to point man and fettel if you didn't know yes they are blood brothers, they kept them two together and ran some experiments to mostly fettel... they were mostly mentally abuse and physically abuse, alma tries to give birth to a 3rd child which fettel wants to eat alma and the baby to gain more power and point man wants to take out his mother and keep the baby but sadly we dont have a 4th fear game to play
I never got a chance to play these when they where released . Having bought a ps3 recently i managed to find a fresh copy of fear 2. It really gets intense at times. Another great game i just had a chance of playing is condemned 2. That was awesome
The multiplayer achievements of some older games were a bit random, I don't remember what game it was but I remember an achievement for killing a developer in an online match, and it was impossible to do.
F.E.A.R. was my first 360 game. I wish for a remaster soo bad, or even just achievements to be added on the steam version. The game is literally peak single player fps and was very ahead of its time. The only achievements I never got was to play 1000 MP matches (I was so close like 970) and finding all the boosters in the campaign (there was no guides on youtube at the time, just written ones).
the pain of 1000 matches, i can say, i was there but it wasnt fun lmfao

That brat shows up so frequent during the game that it is more an "oh hey Alma" then an "oh sh*t". The novelty of her visits fades because it is overused.
Okay, as a young adult during the endgame she is more potent, but not as a 9 year old girl.
The funny thing is you could just jump over that ladder it avoids the entire jump scare I never knew there was a jump scare until about 2010
Awesome game i did the MP years ago only need SP left
Great video btw
Hmmmm… I played 2,900 matches in Halo Infinite. Yeah, I’m a crazy Halo fan, lol. But I remember playing Fear online a lot when I was little. Campaign scared the shit out of me back then so I never completed it until I was like 23.
This is one of my all time favorite games on pc, but the console ports were unjustifiably bad. Appreciate you giving your mental health to the cause.
Love this! Can't wait for what comez next
The 'xx' in the gamertag is the most xbox thing I've ever seen and i love it.
Wait, you're saying he's never played Majora's Mask? 😳
All mask playthrough is very cool, each mask has a story and some are so creepy
8:54 Bro, I feel called out. I got a little over 1,000 Hours in Awakening and was doing Push Ups in the new game Engage.
So thanks for making me laugh so hard I got a new lowest score in push ups since I first started...
Oh, and also thanks for bringing back my Lunatic+ Classic no deaths run PTSD. That was nice.
Lol that skeleton popping up from the blood was legit terrifying in 2006! It's just funny now.
I was late to the party with FEAR too. The dated graphics didn't bother me at all because the combat loops are so freaken good. I agree too that it's actually not that scary of a game and the horror elements are pretty minor. It does have a creepy atmosphere throughout though.
Idk, I remember it being pretty scary in a couple scenes way back when I was like 13 and playing at home in the dark, all alone. 😁
This gem needs a Remaster.
Enemy ai is actually some of the best out there (the soldiers).
Do enjoy these 100% achievements videos, i get so little time to play games now
Love this video.
Definitely wasn't grinding those😂😂
Good summary of the story and you're quite right. It's tough to follow.
You nailed it. Alma appears as a little girl because that's the only thing she remembers herself being.
2nd game is commonly trashed by fans but honestly it was better in almost every way imo 🤙
Too true, I love the first one too, but the second just hits way better. The abominations scarred me
11:54 I almost shed a tear from that hellish checkpoint. Getting COD flashbacks now.
XD
I’d love to see more of the achievements listed. They go by so fast in the videos
Just look 'em up.
I remember F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin had malicious AI, glad to know that's the whole series
"You will be a good among men."
"Than why am I just a Point Man grandad?"
This is a really cool video man. I don’t know how you find the time for this stuff.
Time is my greatest opponent lol
I was always obsessed with the Fear series and this other game I think called “Jericho” as a kid
FEAR 2 does kinda explain why alma looks like a little girl in her projections, basic non spoilery explanation is it ties to parts of her personality
Thank you for inbuilt subtitles.
Chronicles of riddick my boi escape from butcher bay is literally amazing would love to see something similar
@5:55
I'm pretty sure that is more or less what you are meant to take away.
This thing was way scarier when I was a kid 🤣
100% lol
I've played all the FEAR games and absolutely loved it. And yes the game actually scared me or caught me off guard. Fun game.
A Straydog video is always a treat.
The original AI was so good at Tactically out-maneuvering the player that they had to turn the AI down prior to release.
I still remember back in 2006 when an Xbox live friend trolled me into getting the suicide king achievement
It's important to note for anyone seeking to try F.E.A.R. based on this review, the game was built for PCs first, so some of the jank may be due to that. However, Monolith was known for their games getting janky on occasion.
Straydog awesome video 🎮👍🏆😁
Love FEAR, the game is one of the best. You should definitely try it on PC, it holds up even better.
Also if you like FEAR, you HAVE to try out the expansion Extraction Point. Its got more horror, more varied scenery, and the best combat encounters in the game
Felt real anxiety watching you try to beat those guys with no health packs
Love the vid keep up the good work
I coulda sworn this was an Xbox [OG] and PC game, so I was kinda surprised that it was a 360/PS3 game (early 360, but still)
Dude what are you talking about this game looks freaking great gotta love 2005 npc faces XD
yeeep the main menu music still gives me chills
and makes someone shit my pants
"It's not what I expected" COD STYLE GAMEPLAY - that's hilarious lmao
I can't wait to see you make the payday 2 achievements
I never got a chance to play these when they where released . Having bought a ps3 recently i managed to find a fresh copy of fear 2. It really gets intense at times. Another great game i just had a chance of playing is condemned 2. That was awesome
The multiplayer achievements of some older games were a bit random, I don't remember what game it was but I remember an achievement for killing a developer in an online match, and it was impossible to do.
Some of the Halo games had that. Cant remember if you kill someone who has the achievement and you get it that way?
Another great video as always Stray. Keep up the good work.
F.E.A.R. was my first 360 game.
Also, the MP was so damn fun
