    First things first: iam not a fan of real guns, but restoring a blank gun was a really interesting project for me.
    I got this gun from a friend, it was laying in his barn for several years. He told me that its an Colt blank gun, made in germany.
    I started the restoration of this gun by making it work again with WD40. The gun slide was stuck. After getting all mechanical parts moving again, I was able to disassemble the gun. All of the parts were looking good, but pitting did its job on this zinc die-cast gun.
    After sandblasting the slide, i did some sanding work on it. Reblasting with glassbeads was the perfection preparation for the cold bluing bath. I used the Tifoo cold bluing bath, since its made for zinc.
    The cold bluing turned out great, so i moved on with the other zinc parts. All of the small steel parts were cleaned in a ultra sonic cleaner with citric acid cleaner. This was pretty effective.
    Before disassembling, i reengraved the lettering on the gun slide with my 5mW laser. This turned out pretty nice. The final test shows, that this gun is working perfectly fine again. The final test was done on my private property.
    Brand/Model: Its a zinc die-cast Colt Government 1911 A1 9mm PAK (yup, the real 1911 has a different caliber..!), made in germany. Its a blank pistol (Schreckschuss-, Gaswaffe).
    Logos: I didnt use the original font while engraving. I didnt engrave the 'Colt' Logo, because Iam not allowed to recreate the Logo.
    The 'PTB' sign is the 'Beschusszeichen', a sign which says that this gun is allowed in germany.
    I hope you have fun with the video! If you have any questions on the used tools, materials or the processes, write it in the comment section - i´ll try to answer as soon as possible!
    If you want to support my channel hit the like, leave a comment, subscribe and share my work. It helps a lot! :-)

    For anyone wondering "What is a Blank Gun?"
    It is basically the type of gun mainly used in movies. It looks, feels, and fires like a gun. But nothing comes out of the barrel except for some gas. (Though not every blank gun releases the gas from the barrel.)
    Essentially, its a functioning prop.
    So when he's shooting. Nothing comes out.
    That said.
    Man this was a real joy to watch you restore it and bring it back so beautifully! And after the blueing and oil, it truly looks wonderful.
    The laser is a nice touch, and it works really well on wood apparently. That's pretty cool, and hope you'll use it more in other projects as well.

      Mainly used in movies ? Really ? What Alec Badwin think of it ? I guess he'd feel better now if he really had a blank gun !

    • @WinchesterxNL
      @WinchesterxNL ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@laurentdevaux5617 Mistakes can still happen, and Alec Baldwin wasn't the first one who had such an accident happen to them. The gun he was using was a live one. Not a blank one like what Mister Patina here showed. It wasn't supposed to be loaded, and someone didn't check the gun prior.
      That's also a whole different discussion entirely, to be honest.

      Why?

    • @Anubis78250
      @Anubis78250 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@BenB8290 Because many do not. They would put up a video like this and pretend it was a real 1911 the whole time. Or even take a functioning item and artificially age it, just to do a restoration video.
      The title leads you on, but at least this guy states the reality up front.

    I really enjoy your excellent work, and this one brought back some good memories. during the late 70's early 80's my father was a member of the Kansas Air National Guard pistol team, and after a match or practice session he would bring his 1911 home to service it. I can remember many a Saturday afternoon or Sunday evening at our dining room table helping him break down, clean & inspect, and reassemble it. while there are several differences between his and yours, I found myself going "oh yeah, I remember that" numerous times. thank you for a great video and a short trip down memory lane :)

Still grimace when watching movies of actors turning gun on side. The recoil of this beast with a fully weighted round was amazing. A fantastic 'short'. Sadly wasn't allowed to go anywhere on my own whilst I was there without carrying it, such were the troubles. Happily I never needed it. Great video.

    A wonderful restoration, I hope you have an opportunity to restore an actual firearm...when I saw it, I thought it was too far gone for a full restoration, but you did it! It must be very gratifying & rewarding to be able to make things new again...good job! Thanks! Subbed...

      If you would like to see the restoration of an AR-15 destroyed in a house fire, look up the channel "School of the American Rifle". A lot of interesting stuff to watch, but the actual reassembly you would have to pay a fee to watch on his website as TH-cam _DOES NOT_ allow the assembly of real firearms on their platform.
