  • Come along as we feed all the animals on a Saturday in December in North Dakota! After we made this video, we got over 2 feet of snow. Now we are also feeding corn silage to the cows.

    Our names our Clint & Reilee Dahl. Clint is a 5th generation rancher on his family's North Dakota Farm and Ranch. We are a cow calf operation raising primarily Angus and Hereford cattle. We also grow alfalfa and grass hay to feed our animals as well as our customers animals. Horses, cows, sheep, goats, deer, you name it, we have feed for you. Reilee works a full time off the farm job but helps when she can. Things are always busy around here and we love it! Everyone operates their ranch differently, check out how we do it in North Dakota.

    Just tuned in,love ranching and ranch families. I grew up on a ranch in Western Montana but now have lived 50 years in Eastern Oregon. Both my parents were raised on ranches south of Miles City, Montana.

    How long do you feed the steers and what do they weight when you butcher them. And do you wean them at 205 days just wondering.

    • @allstockhay
      @allstockhay  ปีที่แล้ว

      We do wean at about 205 days give or take. They are born on average end of Feb/beginning of March and they are weaned in September. Once we wean, we start feeding a smaller amount of grain and then gradually work it up closer to butcher date in April. They will weigh around 1300 lbs at butcher date.

    Great video. Just a quick advice don't put your salt block in the metal tubs. It will rot them. Make a wood tub or used old molasses tubs.

    • @allstockhay
      @allstockhay  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve got a home made wood one I use strictly for salt since we feed out of the bigger metal ones now days. But you’re right! They won’t last long if I’m always leaving salt in em!

    So you feed 5 lbs per day on replacements and steers?

    • @allstockhay
      @allstockhay  ปีที่แล้ว

      We started out with 5 lbs for the steers when they were weaned and slowly increase from there. That was sept. 26th and now the steers are up to 15 lbs and the heifers are at 6 lbs. they get fed morning and night to break up those weights. So 7.5 & 7.5 per animal for the steers and 3 & 3 for the heifers. When we weaned the heifers they were only getting 2 lbs a day.

      Very nice. Hereford are one of my favorite breeds. I really like your channel, by the way. Hope to see more and more content coming out more regularly. Your channel has a ton of potential.

      If you could show just more cow videos that would be awesome. Like now you select replacement heifers. Taking a load of cull cows to the sale barn and how you select culls. Maybe?? Lol
