This is the same engine I have in my first car in 1984, a 1974 Ford Granada. The engine is a 75 hp Ford 1.7 cc V 4. The spur wheels lost a few teeth on mine and that was it. The Granada or Consul in England was the largest Ford of German production and rather built for larger and more powerful engines. Was an interesting effect, if you have opened the large engine hood and then the small engine came to light. Looked like a lawnmower engine in the big void. On the car, I gained my first experience in screwing. Memories come up, thanks for that and good luck with that old swedish beauty.
Hi,The rear suspension limit straps allow you to jack up from rear body jacking points without the whole suspension opening, on my 1967 model 96 V4 both wheels would come off of the ground with the side jack lifting one side only, the body is that rigid!!! When my check straps showed age I cut replacement ones from the side walls of an old car tyre, they work OK.The rubber being reinforce with canvas in the tyre side walls. Keep up the good work. U.K. Ken.
Hey! Sweet 96; love those old Saabs for sure! Agent 7899 here just picked up a rough 1966 2-stroke example and we'll be going through that here soon! (Probably have a few questions for a Saab expert!) Anyway, all the best from Canada and stop in if you're ever way out here in the sticks! Cheers...
Great video Amesie, the new B-roll footage really lifts the video. Especially the shot of the 96 rolling into the car wash with the two of you on board.
Just saw ur vidio on duttons airfield i flew out of there a few times in 79 brought back memories that place was sick to fly into talk about do or die lol
I have gone to automotive paint supply house, they were able to make a custom color rattle can. Very reasonable and it's California. You could save the color, it looks good from here 3,000 miles away! I did the same thing on my Sonett III trunk floor, I had a junk Porsche 914.
Hi Paul this was the link on Facebook I was sent today. I now notice it links to an article that came out last year with your video on the rear brake light fix, but all good stuff. Bw mj facebook.com/groups/saabessex/permalink/715800868592363/
Speedometer dropping when you let off gas is not speedo drive. The nut on the end of the pinion shaft is loose and the only thing that holods the speedo drive worm on that shaft is being clamped between 3rd and 4th gear wheels. Nut loose allows helical gear to pull away under deceleration. But it also means that you are tearing up the R&P with every mile. Trans out, covers off, take a look around. If you are lucky you can just re-shim and tighten the nut (with a liberal coating of red loctite). In any case that would be way better than driving it as is.
Have you ever tried spraying your frames with used transmission fluid or motor oil? I live in Maine so every year I coat the inside of the door panels, the rockers and the frame. It does a pretty good job at preventing rust. I use the electric spray gun from harbor freight.
Another tip is to get a -67 Saab 96! It is a smaller windshield on them and you hit your head on the sun visors if you drive into the ditch instead of the windshield! I know because I've tested :-)
After the metalwork is done, get the car oil sprayed. No sense having it rust more for no reason. As a person from Ontario Canada, rust can be controlled easily especially if it is parked on grass or soil.
Like a baby blue Easter Egg. Great to see it stretching its legs on the highway! Will you have problems at the front and back seam with the truck bed panels ribs laying flat? I would thing you'd have to cut wedges out and taper them down, or pound the hell out of them to make a straight weld. I'm curious to see how you do it.
Nice to see your work on your Saab's.Living in Sweden and i'm into my 13th Saab right now,11 96's, 2 95's, 1 99 and my current one is a 2002 9-3. All of the old ones was scrapped due to rusting out(thanks for salting the roads). Not to be a smartass but if that's a '71 then it's a 1500. Saab didn't put the 1700 in the 96 until 77-80 except for 80-100 cars built for Sweden in '74 as '75 models all painted orange. Unless there is some sort of export special, then i stand corrected;) Keep up the nice work.
It looks like a car that deserves a full restoration it would be a very nice car pull the motor fully clean the engine bay the engine do it properly i think it would come out the other side looking very very good with a new paint job not just half done do it properly do it well it would become a very beautiful car
. Love the 96. Didn't they used to run the exhaust up and back above the door in the rally version? I'm pretty sure that the other SAAB guy made a nice replica of the rally 96.
Hey man my first cahh was a 73 Saab 96, had 2 of them. yeah got the accent. I m in Maine. These vids are 5 or 6 yrs old. Do you still have the car and is it for sale. I would fking love to have one again. Great channel. I ve subscribed. If you find another l would be interested in it.
Hi Amseie. So my dad gave me his 18 year old worn out lawnmower, (6.5 horses when it was new) so after i replace the carb on it, i was planning on turning my bike into a motor bike. Do you know a way to put a gear box or transmission into a lawnmower motor? thanks.
I agree. As long as the car runs good, everything works like it should, and it drives safely, why mess with the exterior? Only fix it if the patina penetrates the bodywork and into the rest of the car.
Amesie's Automotive Corner The longevity of these old 96's is really impressive,is this one that still runs the 2 cycle engine? A little suggestion on getting off the cedar pollen or sap,or pretty much the same thing from any pine or evergreen tree. Pinesol and water or even generic pine cleaners in a 1 to 4 ratio with water and just a little soaking time and a soft sponge will get it all off. This saves the stripping effect on the wax or paint finish that commercial car washes or power sprayers can have.
Amesie's Automotive Corner I was referring to the mass amesie Vanity plate I noticed you put it on your different cars .i am guessing you just do that for the videos i see in the video you have the other dealer plate when you are on the road . I did not notice that before .
It's actually a plate I had made that copies the Sonett's vanity plate and yes it's just on there for the videos. I have access to Approved Auto's NH dealer plates for actual driving.

I had two of these back in the early eighties. I rolled the first one, then got another.
Had a 9000 for a couple of years loved it.
massive respect

Wait, what! I just started watching Mustie1! Holy, he's right below me, awesome!
It's just a happy little Saab since you brought it back to life! These old Saabs seem like they want to run forever!
I know it is kinda off topic but does anyone know a good place to stream newly released series online?
@Abel Harlem flixportal =)
@Major Dexter Thank you, signed up and it seems like a nice service =) I really appreciate it !!
@Abel Harlem glad I could help :)
you have got to love that V4, I'm getting the want for a 96
Great video Amesie, the new B-roll footage really lifts the video. Especially the shot of the 96 rolling into the car wash with the two of you on board.

These cars i really like, So fun to drive, And rather economical to. Take good care of it.
Just saw ur vidio on duttons airfield i flew out of there a few times in 79 brought back memories that place was sick to fly into talk about do or die lol
I would love to own. You enjoy that little Saab. 👍

Freakin loved the straight on shot when you pulled up into the car wash
lol speeding thru that car wash. that countdown timer always does it.
In sweden I always used Tektyl (i think it was called) a tar based spray, for rust protection, worked a treat
Maybe 85 mph is not a good idea with old, weathered tires. That is such a sweet old Saab.
Exactly what I thought
Doc Twiggenberry They went over 100 on the Sonett..
Well done on the Saab planet article appearance today Bw mj
Awesome! You wouldn't happen to have a link?

Hi Paul a better link www.saabplanet.com/cheap-awesome-saab-led-brake-light-fix/
Sweet looking Saab. I had a neighbour who had 96 similar to this. Except for its colour, it looked just like this car. :)
you doing very well. thanx

Great little saab :)
wow im always amazed of how your classics just starts up that quick, not even my 9000 starts up that quick
I still have the spark plug tool for that hard to get at plug that came with my first one. I also have a broken key with ths Saab logo
Love your videos man
the little engine that could :)
A tip ! Do not replace the spark plug closest to the generator if you have a watch strap in metal ! Do not ask me why ! ;-)

cool car man
great idea using pick up truck bed for the trunk floor, thats a really neat car,is it the same engine as a sonnet?
snap-on man , it should be the same engine although I believe there was a 1500 CC variant at some point prior to the 1700
Craig Nehring --cool,thanks for the reply
Awesome job on thee rocker! Im no stranger to doing repairs like that! and they dont make patch panels for that car! lol!

You are correct. Sometimes it's hard to get small details right while filming.
Qqqq
Just remember......KIOOTC at that speed. It needs a double turbo set up
A simple, honest car...
one day
wish mine would do 70, metal work looks good
you have one of these too?
no, my vw
It looks like a car that deserves a full restoration it would be a very nice car pull the motor fully clean the engine bay the engine do it properly i think it would come out the other side looking very very good with a new paint job not just half done do it properly do it well it would become a very beautiful car
yeaaaaa buddy

High exhaust on East African Safari Rally only. The only major Rally event The Late Eric Carlson never WON.
Made in Finland! hey guys! :D
Amesie, I just saved one of these from the cabbage.
The engine tuns free but the accessory pulleys are stuck. What should I do?
Conifer replace. engine parts are common.
The old Saab is in bad condition, i seen the video of you and mustie1 getting it out quite an effort, some of these old Saab,s had two stroke engine.
Hey man my first cahh was a 73 Saab 96, had 2 of them. yeah got the accent. I m in Maine. These vids are 5 or 6 yrs old. Do you still have the car and is it for sale. I would fking love to have one again. Great channel. I ve subscribed. If you find another l would be interested in it.

also i love the 96
Your next video on the Sonett III, join the Facebook Saab Sonett group and post your video. There's 660 members, I enjoy your videos.
Didn't even use the hand choke!
My suggestion is don't paint the car. I like the patina of the original color and paint job.
I agree. As long as the car runs good, everything works like it should, and it drives safely, why mess with the exterior? Only fix it if the patina penetrates the bodywork and into the rest of the car.
yer supposed to leave cute wifey at home so she can rescue you when the damn thing breaks down
I saw the video where you and mustie1 dragged it out. that was my introduction to your channel. I know. try to keep the Boos down. lol
4:20 -- Italian tune up???

What part of Mass are you from?
The left brake light doesn't work!
question for ya. How the HELL do you get these into reverse. Still haven't found it on mine.
Pull the stick out away from the column then down I think.
Amesie would like to invite you to our Endless Mountains Vintage Saab Jamboree that's going to be conduction on June 9-10.
I'd love to go but it's a bit too far away.
We are only 8 hours away from you
That's 16 hours of driving man, I have to work.
How do you use the same plate on different cars ?
illegally.
It's a NH dealer/repair plate..
