    Just wanted to mention on the clip that “that would be scary” was said ( around 2:06) the locomotives derailed big time. They were a total loss. In fact you can see the lead locomotive just start to tip over on its side if you look to the building in the left. Both engineer and conductor received life threatening injuries.

      You’re right. I happen to be friends with the engineer of that train. He had some very serious injuries. I’ll have to reach out to him and see if I can share the story he told me about that derailment and what happened afterwards. It’s wild.

    My 1st hit was a coal truck. Brand new aluminum dump trailer with less than 5k miles on it, and loaded with crushed coal. Nailed him in the trailer tandems and almost rolled him. Needless to say, I totaled the trailer and coal was everywhere and the road was closed for cleanup. It was my first hit and felt pretty bad. The trooper on scene took my statement and said ‘we’ll, if it makes you feel any better, sent over the truck driver now because he is getting a whole pile of tickets.’ I say the driver get out of the troopers car with a fist full of tickets. No injuries except for my nerves.

    I've been a truck driver for 16 years, mostly coal, and unless they see it for themselves, people wouldn't believe the chances people take and the ignorant things they do when it comes to trains and trucks, like they're immune to the consequences

      I stay out of truck drivers way as much as I possibly can, I have seen pictures on pipe loads and steel coils getting thrown into the cab. Scary

    If you ever get stuck on the tracks, there's a small sign on the signal post. Call that number and give them the crossing number, then clear the vehicle of occupants, call the emergency services and wait for them to arrive.
    I remember the bus dropping us off after schools years ago and two guys figured it would be wise to play on the tracks. The thing that saved them is the fact trains have to go slow there and the engineer stopped the locomotive in time! Then the Engineer laid on the horn for a good 30 seconds and they ran away with tinnitus.

    Back in the 90s I was walking to school as I crossed a busy road I looked west to look for vehicles & saw a semi truck pinned between the wall of a buisness & a train, I never even heard the crash b4 leaving home shortly after Gates were installed at that crossing

    The people who are to blame in these railroad crossing crashes are the drivers in the vehicles that are hit because they just don't know how to think and they ignore warnings.

    The collision at 2:10 that occurred in Mer Rouge, Louisiana was on the same line, UP McGehee Sub, that runs by my area in southeast Arkansas. When the train collided with the crane, the front of that Norfolk Southern unit went airborne and subsequently led to the derailment. A refrigerated tank car carrying argon ruptured, forcing a precautionary evacuation of the area. The crew survived with minor injuries.

    21 years I've hit 4 cars/trucks, and one semi trailer. A 3+ foot snow drift and a split switch that both derailed the car I was riding. Had the h.e. 26 derail from a broken rail. Had the rail flop and drop my head end loco on the ground. Had a b/o car that wasn't supposed to be on the train have the entire lead truck, pin and plate the truck pin goes into rip out and the hopper land on the ground, nearly ran over 3 people, one that was head on one rail feet on the other, one that was fetal position between the rails and one that had his head on the rail waiting for us, but luckily changed his mind last second, and literally high hundreds if not more of close calls with pedestrians and vehicles. I'm sure there's more I'm just forgetting lol. I've worked with multiple guys that have driven over people, hit pedestrians, watched people burn to death and worse.

    I generally stay on the horn until the threat as passed. I call it the "the sound of death" because usually someone is about to die if you are staying on the horn like that. I do not wish be too morbid but I work suburban and as you know deaths happen. If you stay on the horn you can drown out most of the sound of the person hitting the railcar. It is not something you want to hear.

    I don't get why people wouldn't GTFO if their vehicle were stuck on the tracks. Trains are both the unstoppable force AND the immovable object in the debate. Anything on the tracks will be completely obliterated, especially soft things like people.
    Also, it looks like a lot of these crossings weren't made with trailers in mind, something that should probably be fixed.

    • @Railroad_Talk
      @Railroad_Talk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you work for the railroad or have you ever worked for the railroad? If you haven’t you will not understand. It may be traumatic for them as it should be because most not all decided to play chicken with a train. I have zero absolutely ZERO empathy for people trying to be a train, stopping on the tracks, etc.. you know why? Everyone thinks about the person in the car.. imagine being the conductor looking down and the last thing you see if a human inside a car you’re about to hit at 60mph because someone wants to be an idiot.
