long lasting ship hulls is an interesting study. imagine anything from corrosion resistant materials to self healing polymers to even programmed bio-active materials that replace or repair their own cell and molecule structures.
I’d like to see a Jeanueau 57 sailboat hull made from that . Super light with a 4 by 8 slab of stainless steel 3 or 4 inches thick on the bottom of the hull with a 12 foot swing keel . And a swing rudder to beach the boat in tides . Maybe super thick and reinforced in the front for ice
The steel has 20-28% Chromium, so it is an extremly corrosive resistant steel, making pit corrosion next to impossible, especially when mirror polished.
Less so as the surface is so smooth, and the high hardness makes it less likely to degrade in smoothness, making fouling less likely, and because the underlying surface is so much harder compared to paint, you can use much more agressive brushes that remove it without the need for agressive chemicals.
When i get rich im gonna have you build me a stainless steel trawler yaght.....because i agree.....stainless steel is the way to go when it comes to building boats. No rust !!!
I bought an old stainless steel pot in a second hand shop in Sweden and wow! The quality of it is unmatched. You can't find that anywhere else.
What is the thickness of the hull plates on these super duplex stainless steel boats?
It also doubles as a 40 meter roasting oven, smoker, and griddle in the summer time. I want one!!!
yes you could just place some firewood underneath the hull and cook steak & eggs. yum yum yum
I wish my yacht was SS. This is awesome!

What gauge of sheeting of duplex steel do you use when building the hull?
I like the idea of the polished hull not needing bottom paint.
If I had to guess I'd say 5mm

If I had enough money for a 40 m house boat...
How about pit corrotion?

Does it still foul?

nice

It would be nice if this company made a high performance racing haul similar to the Apache model found in North America !😏🙄
Outokumpu needs to marry a steel boat to a Nordhavn 41 and make a baby.
